EARTH STATION
COORDINATION

DEMONSTRATION OF EARTH STATION COORDINATION AND
REGISTRATION – Definition of coordination area
18
The coordination area represents the area
surrounding an earth station sharing the same
frequency band with terrestrial stations , or the
area surrounding a transmitting earth station
that is sharing the same bidirectionally
allocated frequency band with receiving earth
stations , within which the permissible level of
interference may be exceeded and hence
coordination is required.

DEMONSTRATION OF EARTH STATION COORDINATION AND
REGISTRATION – Predetermined coordination
distances
For mobile earth
stations, the
coordination area is
determined by
extending the periphery
of the area, within
which the mobile earth
stations are operating
(called the “service
area”), by the
coordination distance.
In such cases, it is often
preferable to use
predetermined
coordination distances
contained in Table 10 of
Appendix 7.

DEMONSTRATION OF EARTH STATION COORDINATION AND
REGISTRATION - Which frequency assignments shall
be notified?
Frequency assignments to a transmitting station and to its
associated receiving stations (RR No. 11.2):
• Capable of causing harmful interference
• Used for international radiocommunication
• Subject to a world or regional frequency plan, which
does not have its own notification procedure
• Subject to coordination procedure of Article 9
• Seeking international recognition
• Non conforming assignment under No. 8.4 seeking to be
recorded into MIFR for information purposes only
Similar requirements for receiving earth
station (RR No. 11.9)
Any frequency to be used for radio
34
DEMONSTRATION OF EARTH STATION COORDINATION AND
REGISTRATION - Initiating the notification
procedure
When?
1. Associated space station must already be recorded
into the MIFR
2. Coordination with affected administrations is
completed
What to not forget?
1. Provide the correct satellite network name as used
in BR databases
2. Check also the beam names (as in BR databases)
3. Check if the frequency bands are included in the
space station notification
How?

33 DEMONSTRATION OF EARTHSTATION COORDINATION AND REGISTRATION - Which frequency assignments shall be notified? Frequency assignments to a transmitting station and to its associated receiving stations (RR No. 11.2): • Capable of causing harmful interference • Used for international radiocommunication • Subject to a world or regional frequency plan, which does not have its own notification procedure • Subject to coordination procedure of Article 9 • Seeking international recognition • Non conforming assignment under No. 8.4 seeking to be recorded into MIFR for information purposes only Similar requirements for receiving earth station (RR No. 11.9) Any frequency to be used for radio

34 DEMONSTRATION OF EARTHSTATION COORDINATION AND REGISTRATION - Initiating the notification procedure When? 1. Associated space station must already be recorded into the MIFR 2. Coordination with affected administrations is completed What to not forget? 1. Provide the correct satellite network name as used in BR databases 2. Check also the beam names (as in BR databases) 3. Check if the frequency bands are included in the space station notification How?
