GED101 – Understanding the Self
Module Grade Computation
The Grading System
OBE GRADING SYSTEM
• The OBE Grading System will adopt the OBE Principle of
Expanded Opportunity.
• Course grades will be used in the determination of honor
graduates and evaluation of academic status review.
• Module grades determine the course grades.
• The module grade average will be the weighted average of the module
grades based on the credit units of each module:
• The course grade will be determined from the module grade average using
the table below:
OBE GRADING SYSTEM: Example
Module No of weeks Wt of
contribution, xi
Grade per
Module,
MGi
Course
Average
Course
Grade
Module 1 4 weeks 1 Unit 1.25
2.16 2.25
Module 2 4 weeks 1 Unit 2.75
Module 3 3 weeks 1 Unit 2.50
OBE GRADING SYSTEM
• A student who was not able to submit a course requirement due to a certified medical or
emergency reason will get an incomplete grade of I. This can be converted, before the end of the
term, to any grade from a 3.00 to a 1.00.
• A student who fails a module will get a grade of IP (In progress) for that module.
• An IP grade can only be converted to a maximum grade of 3.00. This grade can be converted
to a grade of 3.00 until the end of the following term using the fully online Completion
Modules.
• If the student is not able to convert the IP to 3.00 by the end of the following term, the
student will need to enroll in a Remedial Module in the subsequent term, if offered.
• If any of the module grades remain an I or IP by the end of the quarter, the course grade will
automatically be IP.
• A course will remain with a grade of IP until the student gets a passing grade in all the modules.
OBE GRADING SYSTEM
• The student will get a course grade of 5.00 in case he/she:
• gets a grade of IP in all modules in a course
• violates the Academic Integrity Policy of the University for any of the modules
• incurs 100% absence in any of the modules, regardless of his/her performance in other modules.
• Students who get a course grade of 5.00 will need to re-enroll the course itself. There will be a
Remedial Module fee when enrolling, as faculty members will be assigned to facilitate the Remedial
Module.
• The following will not be charged (i.e. will be free):
• Enrollment in completion modules
• Conversion of an IP grade to a grade of 3.00
• Completion of an I grade to a passing mark
OBE GRADING SYSTEM
OBE GRADING SYSTEM
• If you fail Module 1 or 2, you get an IP, not 5.00. You can convert this grade
to 3.00 until the end of the quarter. If you are unable to do so, you will be
automatically enrolled in a completion module and will have until the end
of the following term to convert the grade of IP to a 3.00.
• If you fail Module 3, you get an IP, not 5.00. You can convert this grade to
3.00 until the end of the following term via the completion module.
• If you get IP in all modules in a course, you will get a grade of 5.00. You will
need to re-enroll the course.
• If you fail to convert your IP grades to 3.00 via the completion module, you
will need to re-enroll in remedial modules on the subsequent term.
• You need to pass all modules in a prerequisite course before you can enroll
the advanced course.
Converting IP grades into a passing mark
Special Modules
Completion Module
• Students will take the completion
module should he/she fail to
complete any of the modules. Upon
finishing the completion module, the
student will get a grade of 3.00 for
that module.
• Maximum date of completion is the
end of the following term after the
original enrollment of the course.
Remedial Module
• Student will need to take the Remedial
Module on the subsequent term should
he fail to finish the completion module.
• Example: A student gets an IP grade in
one of the modules of a course in Q2 and
is unable to convert the grade to a 3.00
by the end of Q3 (via the completion
module). The student will then have to
enroll in a remedial module in Q4.
