Mods were a subculture that originated in London in the late 1950s and peaked in the early-to-mid 1960s, known for their stylish outfits, use of motor scooters like Vespas and Lambrettas, and love of music like British beat, soul, and rhythm and blues. They had rivalries with other subcultures like rockers and frequently clashed, most notably in riots on Brighton beach. Amphetamine use fueled all-night dances at clubs and the 1979 film Quadrophenia captured the mod culture.
