2. Facts from the Scriptures
• God is the chief owner of children.
• God gives children for a PURPOSE.
• You & I will give account to God in the
way we raise our children.
4. The Proper & the Improper Handover
• Bible Reading and Bible Study,
• Meditation in the Word,
• TOTAL faith in the Word ONLY,
• Preaching the Gospel,
• Familiarity with God’s Voice
• Personal devotion
• Waiting on the lord
Modesty in ALL things
5. Modesty in money matters
• If we don’t teach our children modesty in
everything, we are not handing Christ over
properly.
• Modesty in everything including Money is a
teaching parents must handover to their
children.
• Modesty in Money means money
management and financial prudence.
6. Modesty in money matters
• If we don’t teach our children financial
management & Modesty in money matters
at home, we are not handing Christ over
properly.
• Prov.13:22-:‘A good man leaves an
inheritance to his children’s children…’
• If parents are not modest/prudent in
financial matters, they may not be able to
fulfil Prov.13:22.
7. Modesty in money matters
• If children are not taught modesty in
financial matters, they may squander and
waste their inheritance from parents.
• Such children will have NOTHING to
leave for their own children.
• And by this, Jesus is not FULLY glorified
in their family.
8. Modesty in money matters
• As far as MONEY is concerned, God has a
mindset.
• Parents need to know God’s mindset
concerning MONEY so that they can hand
over the same to their children.
9. Excerpts from last discussions on Money matters
• There are always Boom time and
Recession time.
• Always use your money on Needs & not
Wants.
• Always have SAVINGS from your
income, no matter how small.
• Always INVEST your savings.
10. Some questions & matters arising
• How can saving be possible from money
that is not enough in the first place?
• To be realistic, is it possible to have any
saving from a salary of N5000 by a family
of 5 (parents and 3 children) after removing
a tithe of N500?
• To be realistic, how can N4500 take them
through the whole month not to talk of
having a SAVING?
11. Some questions and matters arising
• To be realistic, if there is any saving at all
from N4500, what kind of investment can
be made from such saving? etc.
• Somebody shared a similar view in Mat.
25:14-30.
12. The Bigness of Smallness
Mat. 25:14-30(NKJV)
• “…To one he gave five talents, to another
two, and to another one…But he who had
received one went and dug in the ground, and
hid his lord’s MONEY…
• ‘You wicked and lazy servant,…you ought to
have deposited my money with the
BANKERS, and at my coming I would have
received back my own with INTEREST...’
• Here we see God wants us to make more
money with our money, no matter how little.
13. The Bigness of Smallness
• The man who was given 1 denarii thought
there was no business he can do with it,
thinking God was wicked not to have given
him more money like Bro. A or Sis. B.
• But Jesus had a contrary opinion.
• Jesus made him know that with wisdom from
God, a Small denarii today can become Big
money tomorrow.
14. ‘Very Small’ can become ‘Very Plenty’
• Jn.6:1-14:“…There's a young boy here with
five barley loaves and two fish. But what
good is that with this huge crowd?"
‘…Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks…’
• As far as Andrew was concerned, a MERE
5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes were too small
to achieve anything.
• But God showed that Very Small bread and
fish can work wonders if we put our mind to
it and if we believe.
15. The Bigness of Smallness
• God showed that Very Small can
ultimately become Very Plenty if we
believe and if we put our mind to it.
• You & I need to start seeing the bigness
IN smallness;
• If you don’t have such an EYE for it,
then you need to develop it by changing
the way you think.
16. The Bigness of Smallness
• If you change the way you think of N1,
N5, N10, N50 and N100;
• If you begin to see them as big money
and not mere chicken change;
• Then you are likely to save more money.
• Then these little little Smallness will one
day bring you one giant Bigness.
17. The Bigness of Smallness
• Prov.13:119(NIV)-: Dishonest money
dwindles away, but he who gathers money
LITTLE by LITTLE makes it grow.
• God is saying little little savings, no matter
how small, can do wonders with time, if God
is by our side.
• U&I must not despise the bigness of small
monies;
• We must learn to give thanks for small
monies like Jesus did.
18. The Bigness of Smallness
• Proverbs 21:20-: The wise STORE UP
choice food and olive oil, but fools
DEVOUR their own.
• God is saying no matter how small your
income is, STORE UP some.
• God is saying it is not wise to DEVOUR
everything; STRIVE to have a Saving,
no matter how small.
19. SAVING for the future is God’s will
• Prov.6:6-8-: Go to the Ant, you
sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It
has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet
it STORES its provisions in summer and
gathers its food at harvest.
• Proverbs 30:24-25-: ‘Four things on earth
are SMALL, yet they are extremely wise:
Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they
STORE UP their food in the summer…’
20. SAVING for the future is God’s will
• God is saying if the ant, as small as it is,
can SAVE for the future, you and I have
no reason not to have a saving, even from
our SMALL income.
21. The Joseph Template
Genesis 41:34-36
• Let Pharaoh appoint commissioners over
the land to take a fifth of the harvest of
Egypt during the Seven Years of
abundance. They should …STORE UP
the grain under the authority of
Pharaoh,… This food should be…used
during the seven years of famine that will
come upon Egypt,…’
22. The Joseph Template
• God revealed to Pharaoh a famine
coming in the future.
• The same God told Joseph that the
ONLY solution is to PLAN for the future
BY SAVING.
• God told Joseph that the ONLY solution
for recession period is the SAVING from
the boom period.
23. The Joseph Template
• This means as far as God is concerned,
planning for the future is a NECESSITY.
• God told Joseph the ONLY solution is to
plan for the future by saving and saving and
saving CONSISTENTLY, year after year.
• God made it clear that to save and to really
save well we need consistence, persistence
and diligence month after month, year after
year like Joseph.
24. You need a saving plan
• God made it clear that to be really
consistent and diligent in saving, we need
a SAVING PLAN and we must STICK
to that saving plan RELIGIOUSLY just
like He told Joseph to do.
25. You need a saving plan
• 1 Corinthians 16:2-: ‘On the first day of
EVERY WEEK, each one of you should
set aside a sum of money in keeping with
your income, SAVING it up,…’
• God told Joseph to have a consistent
YEARLY saving plan for 7 years, but
told the Corinthians to have a consistent
WEEKLY saving plan.
26. Let’s work it out
• God wants U&I to decide on a consistent
and persistent saving plan no matter how
small and be diligent with it.
• A Monthly saving of N100 from the N4500
monthly income Does Not in anyway affect
the monthly budget negatively.
• Using the Joseph template, a Monthly saving
of N100 consistently and persistently for 7
years gives N8400.
27. Let’s work it out
• Q: Is N8400 powerful enough to bring an
alternative source of income?
• Q: Is there a business that can be started
with an initial capital of N8400?
28. The Joseph Template
• If the answer is Yes, then U&I can save
from our very little income if we are very
determined.
• With God and with rugged persistence,
the business with an initial capital of
N8400 today will not remain the same in
the next 7 years, using the Joseph
template.
29. Boom Times & Recession Times
• In your boom time, money comes into your
house and plays around.
• But for all we know, money has wings and
can fly away (Prov.23:5).
• As money flies around your house in the
boom time, you must clip its wings and tie
it down by saving & investment.
30. Boom Times & Recession Times
• If you don’t tie it down, the money flies away
little by little as you spend more and more on
wants.
• And then recession begins in your house when
you least expect.
• When boom time is passing through your house,
if you are not careful you may not know it.
• Because by your own standard, the money is not
big enough for any business/investment.
31. Money Mgt. & Investment is God’s will
• Ecclesiastes 11:2 (NASB)-: Divide your
portion to seven, or even to eight, for you
do not know what misfortune may occur
on the earth.
• God is telling us to have multiple stream
of income in case one fails or in case you
lose your job or in case your main
profession is not bringing enough gain or
in case there is recession in the land, etc.
32. Money Mgt. & Investment is God’s will
• God is asking us to develop a habit of
saving & investments.
• He is asking us not to use ALL our
savings on ONE investment alone.
• He is asking us to diversify here and
there as we have more and more savings.
33. Money Mgt. & Investment is God’s will
• Lk16:1-13-: He also said to the disciples,
“There was a rich man who had a Manager,
and charges were brought to him that this
man was WASTING his possessions. And he
called him and said to him, ‘What is this that
I hear about you? Turn in the account of your
management, for you can no longer be
Manager.’
34. Wastages affects your business/Investment
• This means God wants us to be good
managers of our possession & He hates it
when we waste our money and other
resources.
• Jn.6:9-12 (NIV)-: ‘…Gather the pieces
that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.’
35. Wastages affects your business/Investment
• When you throw away unfinished
rice/bread/yam/beans at home, God hates
it,
• It means you are not a good manager of
your resources and possession; & this
will ultimately affect your maximum
saving. How?
36. The BITTER Truth
• Prov.21:17-: Whoever loves pleasure
WILL be a poor man; he who loves
wine and oil WILL not be rich.
• Q: Why will he not be rich?
• A: Because he is not a good manager of
his possession; and he will not have
Much savings to invest.
37. God’s mind is more on Needs than Wants
• Isa.55:2-: Why do you spend your
MONEY for that which is NOT
BREAD…’
• Clearly, God wants us to spend our
resources more on Needs than Wants.
• You are not a good manager if you spend
more money on wants than needs.
38. God’s mind is more on Needs than Wants
• There are GOOD reasons and there are
WISE reasons.
• A WISE reason is always a GOOD
reason.
• But a good reason MAY NOT be a wise
reason.
39. God’s mind is more on Needs than Wants
• If you don’t have a Wise reason (not just
a good reason) for changing your phone,
you are not a good manager money.
• If you don’t have a Wise reason (not just
a good reason) for buying that
bag/necklace/shoe/home theatre/Jeep etc.,
you are not a good manager of money.
40. Hindrances to God in your Business
• Lev.19:13-: ‘…The wages of a hired
servant shall not remain with you all night
until the morning’.
• When you owe your hired labor (i.e.
bricklayer, house cleaner, plumber etc.) or
your employee(s) and you refuse to pay;
• It can make God, the Source of All
blessings stay away from your business or
investment.
41. Hindrances to God in your Business
• Rom.13:7-8-: ‘Give to everyone what
you owe them…Do not owe anyone
anything…’
• Rom.13:8(NIV)-: ‘Let no debt remain
outstanding,…’
• Ps 37:21-: ‘The wicked borrows and does
not pay back,…’
42. Hindrances to God in your Business
• If you have borrowed money from anybody
and you are refusing to pay back; and you are
not talking about it again?
• It is dangerous to your BREAKTHROUGH
in business & investments.
• It can make God stay AWAY from your
business & investments.
• For your own sake, start planning to pay all
your outstanding debts NOW!
43. Prayer Points
• 1Sam.2:7-: ‘The lord sends Poverty and
Wealth…’
• Isa.45:3-: ‘And I will give you the
TREASURES of darkness, and hidden
RICHES of secret places…’
• James 1:5-: If any of you lacks WISDOM,
let him ask God, who gives generously to all
without reproach, and it will be given him.
