An eclipse occurs when a celestial body moves into the shadow of another, either blocking
the Sun (solar eclipse) or sunlight from reaching the Moon (lunar eclipse), fascinating
humans for centuries.
What is an Eclipse?

Types of Shadows
Eclipses result from the alignment of the Sun, Earth, and Moon. The shadow causing an eclipse has a darker
umbra and a lighter penumbra. The type of eclipse experienced depends on one's position relative to these
shadows.

Solar
Eclipses
Occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth
and the Sun.
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon blocks the Sun's
light from reaching Earth, with three types: Total, Partial,
and Annular. Solar eclipses are rare, brief events that are
thrilling to observe.

Lunar
Eclipses
Occurs when the Earth is between the Sun and the
Moon.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth blocks the Sun's light from reaching
the Moon, creating shadow effects. Lunar eclipses can be total, partial, or
penumbral, with different levels of shadow coverage on the Moon.
