Tribes would fight each other for resources like food if another village's supply was stolen. Revenge, or utu, was also a common reason for warfare between tribes. The Haka was a traditional Maori dance that could be performed with or without weapons and was sometimes used to celebrate feasts or tell stories of great battles. Weapons like clubs, spears, and daggers made of wood, stone, or bone were used in close combat between tribes. One New Zealand war between tribes in 1860 lasted 12 days.
