EDUCATION
Master of Science, Electrical Engineering
George Mason University, Fairfax, VA December, 2015
• Cumulative GPA – 3.58/4
• MASTER'S THESIS Spring 2013 – Fall 2015
1. Title: “Experimental Test Bed for Electromagnetic Analysis”
2. Description:
ElectroMagnetic Analysis (EMA) is a side-channel attack. Two attack methods,
simple EMA (SEMA) and differential EMA (DEMA), were studied in this thesis. The
electromagnetic radiations from the target device were measured and analyzed to
break implementations of cryptographic algorithms. The theoretical background of
EMA was investigated. The electromagnetic probe (sensor), used for monitoring the
radiation, was built and characterized. A motorized 2D scanning system was
developed for cartography over the target. The thesis discussed integrating the sensor,
2D scanner, and FOBOS - an open source environment for performing side channel
analysis - to conduct Electromagnetic Analysis successfully.

• PROJECT WORK
1. An Analysis of BD+ and Other Major Schemes for Digital Rights Management
Fall 2013
The digital right copy protection techniques, like Content Scramble System (CSS),
Advanced Access Content System (AACS), and Blu-ray Disc Digital Rights
Management system (BD+) were analyzed. The attacks on the copyright protection
schemes and their respective countermeasures were investigated. This was a group
project with three members. I dealt with AACS, the attacks on AACS, and the
respective countermeasures against AACS.
2. Copycat car Fall 2013
A robot car was built and controlled using MSP 430. The robot car was capable of
copying the sequence of instructions and repeating it when required. The robot car
was interfaced with the Bluetooth Android application. We were successful in
running the robot with desired functionality. This was a team project with 4 members.
I contributed to interfacing the stepper motor with the microcontroller and running
2. the motor by generating the Pulse Width Modulated signals using the MSP430.
3. Side Channel Analysis Spring 2014
This was an analytical project on Side Channel Analysis (an attack based on
information gained from the physical implementation of a cryptosystem). The history
of Side Channel Analysis was studied. The project was focused on Power Analysis
(PA) and Electromagnetic Analysis (EMA). Different implementations of Power
Analysis and Electromagnetic Analysis were studied and the conditions under which
they could be implemented were investigated.
4. Implementation of an Authenticated Cipher in Hardware Fall 2014
A synthesizable VHDL code for the CAESAR competition cipher (KIASU) was
developed. The design was implemented using Xilinx ISE. The code was verified
against the software implementation, provided by the authors of KIASU, using ISim.
