Good MorningMy name is ... co-founder mapmyfitness, the 7 yr company behind consumer brands like MapMyRun and MapMyRideWe were an early innovator in the space of online fitness tracking and device integration and were a key player in the growth of fitness and activity tracking on both web and mobileI am happy to be here today to share some insights that we’re seeing in mobile and connected health.

As I had mentioned before, we were an early innovator in this space and our innovation has helped change the way people think about their health and fitness.With 8 years of experience and over 16M users, we have the largest continuous samples of fitness and activity data sourced from hundreds of different devices and partners.
  5. Very quickly, a little bit about us.Most people know us for our consumer brands but a big part of our business model is providing a technology and data platform on which other brands can scale.Right now, we are rolling into our peak season and our platform is recording 300-400k activities a day. A typical activity, like a run, is 3 miles / 30 minutes and if we're recording location telemetry every second as well as hr, cadence, etc. then you can imaging the scale. That’s more than 4 workouts a second.

  7. - Now what about the trends that we at MapMyFitness look at? this statistic here is pretty amazing. 70% of phones will be smart phones in 2015.3 yrs ago...now compare that to recent PEW study of smart phone owners: 40% track exercise, 30% monitor diet, and 12% manage weight
  8. This growth in smartphone penetration paired with the growth of wearables technology ...driven by cheaper electronics, more commoditized parts(2012 Study by IMS Research)
  9. And this is lead by Activity Monitors that are projected to account for 61% of the total Fitness & Wellness market by 2016

Connected Health really is Exploding!!!This convergence is driving and commoditizing the connected device market.The consumer is not just the fittest of the fit, not just the data junky - this is going mainstream and you're already seeing penetration into the Walmarts of the world.71% of Americans in a Recent Rackspace study believed that wearables will help them improve their personal health and fitness.
  11. but there’s a catch to this commoditization and it’s going to get worse

And this is where we came in.We recognized early on in :1) the value of partnerships at a platform and data level 2) providing the best user experience across all these devices.- and (3) providing the scale to grow with this exploding marketplaceAn example is me:Personally I have almost 8 years of continuous data across dozens of devices and I’m able to interact with that data in one place.

It’s not just FitnessData.It’s all types of activity data like steps, reps, miles and minutesIt’s nutrition data like the food you’ve eatenIt’s data that either manually entered, recorded through the phone, (iphone, android, blackberry, windows)sync’d from a devices (fitbits, garmins, jawbone ups)from platform partners like CarepassNow this is key: the phone has become the primary engagement mechanism to all this data

And it’s the apps on the phone that have to provide the best, frictionless experience when interacting with that data.all this data is just noise, but it’s the compelling story told with the data that is the most valuable.This needs to be delightful, informative, and fun. It’s needs to motivate and even be prescriptive at times.An example of this was a community doctor who I met who, out of pocket, prescribed fitbits to his heart patients post surgery.

Which is why partnering with Aetna’s Carepass made sense.We both believe that Activity and Nutrition data is key to giving a person a view of their overall health.And they came to us because they knew we had scale and experience being one of the 1st in this spaceWe want to make it easy for people to engage with their healthAnd we believe that mobile plays a critical role in this ecosystem as it becomes the interface to the user.
  16. So, in summary:read bulletsmost important piece that is the phone, the mobile device, is the primary way people will interact with all this data.
