Professional Experience
• System Analyst/ Database Programmer, Data Management Unit, Department of Psychiatry,
University of Pennsylvania. (March, 2001 - Present)
Take the lead in reviewing study related CRFs and data dictionaries for all the new studies. Train the
new users to use the data entry system, and participate in the technical support for the users. Review
and code data entry systems, create and validate form logic, perform system testing and quality
control, write spss code, and design of the associated database structures. Work on creating new
system functionalities and enhancement to the Web Based Data Entry System and Tracking System.
Use Redcap System to set up forms for research studies..
• Lab Manager, Department of Molecular Genetics, The Wistar Institute.
(September, 2000 - March, 2001)
Use AppleWorks 6 to design and implement the lab plasmid database.
• Intern, Department of Biology, University of Pennsylvania. ( Summer, 2000 )
Use Perl to implement PlasmoDB: a database for analysis of the Plasmodium falciparum genome.
Use FileMaker to design and implement the Lab ordering database.
• Research Specialist, Molecular Biology Lab, Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of
Pennsylvania School of Medicine. (1996 - 1999)
• Research Technician B, Dept. of Pathology, Columbia University. (1995 - 1996)
• Assistant Professor, Immunology Research Unit, Suzhou Medical College. (1991 - 1995)
2. Projects
• Participated in planning, designing and development of Web Based Direct Data Entry System. Using
ASP, JavaScript, VBScript and MicroSoft SQL Server 2015 to develop Web Based Data Entry
System and Tracking System. Train the users to use our data entry system. Set up data entry forms
using RedCap system for research studies.
• Designed and developed Data Entry Applications, Databases and Entry Screens with FoxPro for
many projects. Prepared many data files with SPSS for principal investigators.
• Set up studies with redcap system.
• Designed a database management system for managing the gene linkage analysis experiment data
which used JDBC to connect Oracle DBMS. Designed and implemented interfaces for some general
SQL queries and special queries which used Java Awt.
• Wrote a specification for Survival Watch, Simulated a digital clock with Java Swing according to a
specification, tested the simulation with the real digital clock and analyzed the specification quality.
• Wrote a parser with C to parse the GenBank entries from EMBL format into the XML format. Used
the XMLTreeDiff algorithms to test the difference between versions of the GenBank EMBL entries
and analyze which parts of the entry change most frequently. Compared the different XMLDiff
algorithms in terms of efficiency and output format.
• HMMER was used to train the machine to identify the zinc finger C2H2 type. Nine amino sequences
of zinc finger (C2H2 type) domains were selected based on annotation information in Swiss-Prot
database. The corresponding Clustalw alignment was then used to build the profile HMM. Drosophila
and other species zinc finger C2H2 type proteins and proteins without zinc fingers were used as the
testing sequences. Predicated Drosophila protein sequences were evaluated for its accuracy.
