Minds@Work Survey

July 2016
Survey results
We asked all Minds@Work members to fill out a short survey to help us better
understand why members joined M@W, how it has benefitted them to date and what they
would like us to achieve as a group in future.
The feedback was extremely positive and helpful - so thank you! We had 44 responses
with plenty of rich constructive commentary on all aspects.
This presentation presents anonymous quotes from each question which neatly
summarise the overall sentiment that was shared.
Overall, there were some key themes that came to the surface which we’ve summarised
at the end of this presentation.
“To connect with like minded people
who want to make a difference and
help create healthy workplaces which
support people who have mental
health issues.”
Why did you join Minds@Work?
The vast majority of people joined M@W because they want to
make a difference around mental health in the workplace
“The first meeting inspired a number of
different ideas that I brought back to
my business as well as connecting me
with new individuals that I have been
having inspiring conversations with.”
If Minds@Work has been useful to you professionally then please tell us the details…
People generally felt that connecting with others, getting
inspiration and understanding what solutions were out there
helped them professionally
“Mainly to understand what is available to
help people in corporate world to
overcome the same stigma I had.”
“Early days as yet, but lots to connect
with like minded people which I trust
will lead to greater power, more
opportunity to spread the work I do
and contribute to the amazing
projects others have set up.”
“I feel as though I am doing something positive
and contributing to a critical topic for our
society, which increases my own self worth and
therefore self esteem which I know is important
for my own mental well being.”
If Minds@Work has been useful to you personally then please tell us the details…
“It's always great to meet
new people who share the
same passions.”
“It's helped me realise that there are people that care about wellbeing at work.”
Members told us that they really enjoy meeting people with the same
mindset, they felt M@W creates purpose in an area they are passionate
about and that it helps show there is growing support for this issue
“The energy, the synergy, the lack of pretence, the safety, the wisdom, the
feeling that together we can make a bigger difference than I can alone, the
lack of judgement, the belonging.”
What do you like about our meetings?
Meetings provide the opportunity to meet with likeminded
individuals and get inspiration that is harder to come by individually
“Opportunity to reconnect with
people. Find out what is going
on out there in the bigger world.
Feel part of something.”
“More time to interact with others. Networking
and team discussions rather than mainly
presentations.”
What could be improved in our meetings?
“A little more structure and sticking to time.”
“Timekeeping.”
We plan to make meetings more structured and concise, with more
time for meeting one another. We appreciate we’ve often overrun with
limited time for networking, so that will change for future meetings
“I don't think the end goal and vision is totally clear. Yes we want to break
the stigma but as a group, what are you asking us too do and what are the
small baby steps to get there?”
What could be improved in our meetings?
While M@W is evolving, we will be defining our Purpose and
Vision along with road-mapping actionable goals for the near
and long term
“1. Professionally: I would like to collaborate / work
with like minded people
2. Personally: It is helpful to meet others with lived
experience of mental health issues.”
If you could ask for three things that Minds@Work could bring you,
what would those three things be?
We learned there was more of an appetite than we thought for
members putting their skills into action and opportunities for members
to collaborate with each other will be nurtured and facilitated
“Opportunity to do something
practical using my skills.”
“More time to hear what people do;
see if I can contribute more; develop
more relationships.”
“Having the time.”
What would make you use our Slack channel more?
Slack is there if we need it, people told us they didn’t want another
channel to manage and that finding the time to engage was hard,
however it was good for sharing as and when we have articles to share
“I only post when I have something to say
not for the sake of it. So happy as it is.”
“We need more structure organisationally. Interest groups, specific activities, targets,
projects, tasks to work on from a commonly generated agenda. Levels of involvement so those
of us who want to be more keenly involved can, whilst those who don't, still feel 100% ownership. The
opportunity to get involved in this way rather than feel others are beavering away and so busy
there is no way in. Structure, aims, objectives, more defined articulated vision so we don't take
on too much. Focus on what we are good at. Focus so we don't get sucked down the wrong path.
Need to clarify to focus. At the moment it feels like a few key people are making all the moves
and that's great but with more structure they can delegate, focus, create the long view, involve
others more clearly rather than risking it becoming a bunch of very energetic passionate
people who meet up but have no rudder to the ship. Clear leadership in a flat org structure.
Articulate the vision, the values, the need - we need the answer so we don't weaken and become a
jack of all trades and master of none”
Anything else you would like to share about Minds@Work?
We need to define our vision, values and provide a clear
structure to empower our members to deliver on our purpose
and engage with M@W autonomously
Being part of something that impacts society and wants to create change
“I didn’t know people cared about this issue”
Connecting with likeminded people
“New friends, inspiring and energised people are amazing and contagious and
drive both my professional and personal goals forward”
No judgement
“A feeling of community; an opportunity to help others suffering from poor
mental health; an opportunity to talk about my experiences of poor mental
health”
The best things about Minds@Work are:
What is the goal?
“We need focus and partnerships for action”
Put us to work!
“How I can be more involved and help more”
Greater transparency
“I don't feel I know what it actually does & how I can get involved”
The things we need to improve about Minds@Work are:

Minds@work survey results

  • 2. Survey results We asked all Minds@Work members to fill out a short survey to help us better understand why members joined M@W, how it has benefitted them to date and what they would like us to achieve as a group in future. The feedback was extremely positive and helpful - so thank you! We had 44 responses with plenty of rich constructive commentary on all aspects. This presentation presents anonymous quotes from each question which neatly summarise the overall sentiment that was shared. Overall, there were some key themes that came to the surface which we’ve summarised at the end of this presentation.
  • 3. “To connect with like minded people who want to make a difference and help create healthy workplaces which support people who have mental health issues.” Why did you join Minds@Work? The vast majority of people joined M@W because they want to make a difference around mental health in the workplace
  • 4. “The first meeting inspired a number of different ideas that I brought back to my business as well as connecting me with new individuals that I have been having inspiring conversations with.” If Minds@Work has been useful to you professionally then please tell us the details… People generally felt that connecting with others, getting inspiration and understanding what solutions were out there helped them professionally “Mainly to understand what is available to help people in corporate world to overcome the same stigma I had.” “Early days as yet, but lots to connect with like minded people which I trust will lead to greater power, more opportunity to spread the work I do and contribute to the amazing projects others have set up.”
  • 5. “I feel as though I am doing something positive and contributing to a critical topic for our society, which increases my own self worth and therefore self esteem which I know is important for my own mental well being.” If Minds@Work has been useful to you personally then please tell us the details… “It's always great to meet new people who share the same passions.” “It's helped me realise that there are people that care about wellbeing at work.” Members told us that they really enjoy meeting people with the same mindset, they felt M@W creates purpose in an area they are passionate about and that it helps show there is growing support for this issue
  • 6. “The energy, the synergy, the lack of pretence, the safety, the wisdom, the feeling that together we can make a bigger difference than I can alone, the lack of judgement, the belonging.” What do you like about our meetings? Meetings provide the opportunity to meet with likeminded individuals and get inspiration that is harder to come by individually “Opportunity to reconnect with people. Find out what is going on out there in the bigger world. Feel part of something.”
  • 7. “More time to interact with others. Networking and team discussions rather than mainly presentations.” What could be improved in our meetings? “A little more structure and sticking to time.” “Timekeeping.” We plan to make meetings more structured and concise, with more time for meeting one another. We appreciate we’ve often overrun with limited time for networking, so that will change for future meetings
  • 8. “I don't think the end goal and vision is totally clear. Yes we want to break the stigma but as a group, what are you asking us too do and what are the small baby steps to get there?” What could be improved in our meetings? While M@W is evolving, we will be defining our Purpose and Vision along with road-mapping actionable goals for the near and long term
  • 9. “1. Professionally: I would like to collaborate / work with like minded people 2. Personally: It is helpful to meet others with lived experience of mental health issues.” If you could ask for three things that Minds@Work could bring you, what would those three things be? We learned there was more of an appetite than we thought for members putting their skills into action and opportunities for members to collaborate with each other will be nurtured and facilitated “Opportunity to do something practical using my skills.” “More time to hear what people do; see if I can contribute more; develop more relationships.”
  • 10. “Having the time.” What would make you use our Slack channel more? Slack is there if we need it, people told us they didn’t want another channel to manage and that finding the time to engage was hard, however it was good for sharing as and when we have articles to share “I only post when I have something to say not for the sake of it. So happy as it is.”
  • 11. “We need more structure organisationally. Interest groups, specific activities, targets, projects, tasks to work on from a commonly generated agenda. Levels of involvement so those of us who want to be more keenly involved can, whilst those who don't, still feel 100% ownership. The opportunity to get involved in this way rather than feel others are beavering away and so busy there is no way in. Structure, aims, objectives, more defined articulated vision so we don't take on too much. Focus on what we are good at. Focus so we don't get sucked down the wrong path. Need to clarify to focus. At the moment it feels like a few key people are making all the moves and that's great but with more structure they can delegate, focus, create the long view, involve others more clearly rather than risking it becoming a bunch of very energetic passionate people who meet up but have no rudder to the ship. Clear leadership in a flat org structure. Articulate the vision, the values, the need - we need the answer so we don't weaken and become a jack of all trades and master of none” Anything else you would like to share about Minds@Work? We need to define our vision, values and provide a clear structure to empower our members to deliver on our purpose and engage with M@W autonomously
  • 12. Being part of something that impacts society and wants to create change “I didn’t know people cared about this issue” Connecting with likeminded people “New friends, inspiring and energised people are amazing and contagious and drive both my professional and personal goals forward” No judgement “A feeling of community; an opportunity to help others suffering from poor mental health; an opportunity to talk about my experiences of poor mental health” The best things about Minds@Work are:
  • 13. What is the goal? “We need focus and partnerships for action” Put us to work! “How I can be more involved and help more” Greater transparency “I don't feel I know what it actually does & how I can get involved” The things we need to improve about Minds@Work are:
