God created the heavens, earth, light, day and night, land and sea. Living creatures were created to fill the oceans, skies, and land. God created humans to have dominion over nature. However, unchecked population growth and consumption are jeopardizing the planet through pollution, resource depletion, and climate change. Urgent action is needed to transition to renewable energy and create a more sustainable and just relationship between humanity and the environment before irreparable damage is done.
This document discusses the Christian view of eco-social justice and living carbon neutral lives through 4P's action - planting, producing, protecting the planet for peace. It outlines the enormity, urgency and potential alternatives regarding current ecological crises like climate change, loss of species, and water shortages. The crises require a total system response and addressing the underlying spiritual crisis through redefining values and moving away from materialism. The consequences of global warming are also summarized, including altered weather patterns, changing ecosystems and habitats, melting ice and rising seas, more extreme storms, and impacts on public health.
This document discusses the urgency of addressing ecological crises like climate change and species extinction. It argues that the problems are enormous, global in scale, and require an immediate, systemic response on the level of a "total world mobilization." While individual and small-scale advocacy helps raise awareness, the problems are too severe to be addressed through incremental change. The document calls for a new moral and economic framework centered around sustainability, equality and care for the planet. It suggests social systems can abruptly change for better or worse, and acting now to adopt technical solutions could avert some destructive impacts while creating a more just world.

Every business, big or small, deals with outgoing payments. Whether it’s to suppliers for inventory, to employees for salaries, or to vendors for services rendered, keeping track of these expenses is crucial. This is where payment vouchers come in – the unsung heroes of the accounting world.
A toxic combination of 15 years of low growth, and four decades of high inequality, has left Britain poorer and falling behind its peers. Productivity growth is weak and public investment is low, while wages today are no higher than they were before the financial crisis. Britain needs a new economic strategy to lift itself out of stagnation.
Scotland is in many ways a microcosm of this challenge. It has become a hub for creative industries, is home to several world-class universities and a thriving community of businesses – strengths that need to be harness and leveraged. But it also has high levels of deprivation, with homelessness reaching a record high and nearly half a million people living in very deep poverty last year. Scotland won’t be truly thriving unless it finds ways to ensure that all its inhabitants benefit from growth and investment. This is the central challenge facing policy makers both in Holyrood and Westminster.
What should a new national economic strategy for Scotland include? What would the pursuit of stronger economic growth mean for local, national and UK-wide policy makers? How will economic change affect the jobs we do, the places we live and the businesses we work for? And what are the prospects for cities like Glasgow, and nations like Scotland, in rising to these challenges?

Fabular Frames and the Four Ratio ProblemMajid Iqbal
Digital, interactive art showing the struggle of a society in providing for its present population while also saving planetary resources for future generations. Spread across several frames, the art is actually the rendering of real and speculative data. The stereographic projections change shape in response to prompts and provocations. Visitors interact with the model through speculative statements about how to increase savings across communities, regions, ecosystems and environments. Their fabulations combined with random noise, i.e. factors beyond control, have a dramatic effect on the societal transition. Things get better. Things get worse. The aim is to give visitors a new grasp and feel of the ongoing struggles in democracies around the world.
Stunning art in the small multiples format brings out the spatiotemporal nature of societal transitions, against backdrop issues such as energy, housing, waste, farmland and forest. In each frame we see hopeful and frightful interplays between spending and saving. Problems emerge when one of the two parts of the existential anaglyph rapidly shrinks like Arctic ice, as factors cross thresholds. Ecological wealth and intergenerational equity areFour at stake. Not enough spending could mean economic stress, social unrest and political conflict. Not enough saving and there will be climate breakdown and ‘bankruptcy’. So where does speculative design start and the gambling and betting end? Behind each fabular frame is a four ratio problem. Each ratio reflects the level of sacrifice and self-restraint a society is willing to accept, against promises of prosperity and freedom. Some values seem to stabilise a frame while others cause collapse. Get the ratios right and we can have it all. Get them wrong and things get more desperate.

– comprising ten States Maranhão,
Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte,
Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe
e Bahia and Minas Gerais. Population:
1/3 of Brazil (55 million)
4. the rationale
When the National Program of Biodiesel Production and Use (PNPB) was started, on
December 2004, the Brazilian Government relied on the growing demand for fuels
from renewable sources and on the Brazilian potential to meet a substantial part of
these needs, thus generating jobs and income in rural areas, reducing regional
inequalities and contributing to foreign-exchange savings and to the improvement of
environmental conditions.
There is widespread consensus among energy specialists as to the fact that the
Twenty-first Century will be the age of agroenergy.
Energy security must be achieved through the increasing production of fuels from
renewable sources and this achievement requires compliance with the requirements
of sustainability in the broad sense : environmental, economic, social and
technological sustainability.
Brazil has very favorable land and climate conditions and has a great potential for the
production of biomass. The addition of value to agricultural activities represents a
major comparative advantage to Brazil. Biodiesel is one of these possibilities,
perhaps the most promising one, as the demand for energy will increase as the world
economy keeps growing.
In this context, the Government has foreseen the possibility – which is actually taking
place – of engaging small farmers and producers of the Brazilian poorest regions in
the biodiesel value chain. This is being achieved by means of tax incentives granted
to firms that purchase oil-producing crops grown by small farmers. With the purpose
of creating market for biodiesel, a law that requires the addition of biodiesel into
diesel (2% in 2008, and 5% in 2013) was sanctioned.
5. Brazil: a global benchmark in RET
Brazil has ideal conditions for becoming a major world producer of
biodiesel. It has a vast amount of arable land, part of which is not
suitable for food crops but has the right soil and climate for
growing a range of oilseeds.
Biodiesel will make Brazil a global benchmark in the use of
renewable fuels.It first won this position in the 1970s with the
introduction of ethanol made from sugarcane to power automotive
vehicles.
The National Alcohol Program, Proálcool, was the largest fossil
fuel substitution program in the world automotive market. It is
still considered a global example of excellence, and Brazil remains
the largest producer and consumer of fuel alcohol in the world.
The experience Brazil has accumulated through the Proálcool
serves as a strong foundation for implementing the biodiesel
program and maximizing the nation’s competitiveness in a
relatively short period.
6. Brazilian National Plan for Biodiesel
The National Program
for use and production
of Biodiesel (PNPB) is
a Federal Inter-
ministerial program
with an aim at
implementing a
sustained
development ,
technically and
economically. The
emphasis lies on social

will require the development of a true international market in these fuels
Efficiency and Improved Public Transport. BThe State biodiesel program is being be
developed within the context of a broad transformation of the transport sector aimed
at improving transport efficiency.
11. The State efforts
To achieve the efficacy, the State Government has undertaken a
profound revision of its structure, including the empowerment of the
development apparatus with a greater flexibility in order to meet the
new demands of society .
The objective of Minas Gerais development is now to increase the
competitiveness of its economic base, targeting the state’s supply
chains, transforming comparative advantages into real and enduring
competitive advantages.
The new model gives primacy to the private initiative in determining
the economy’s dynamic as well as an elevated degree of openness to the
international economy.
Bio-fuels production has driven special attention from the State
Government and counts with its full support and incentives.
12. The State program for bio-fuels
The program, set forth in Law no. 15.976/2006 has the following goals:
Research and technology development;
Technology transfer to the private sector;
Job posts creating and improvement of income distribution;
Reduction of fossil diesel imports;
Reduction of gas pollution emission;
Development of Feed-stock production

500.000 job posts up to 2007.
13. entrepreneurial state culture
While the State of Minas Gerais assumes the role of promoter and
clearinghouse for investments, it is aligned with the basic concepts of this
new entrepreneurial culture, which involve:
overcoming bureaucratic bottlenecks that inhibit the adoption of
performance-based models of administration.
breaking with inefficient management practices.
decentralizing and opening spaces for the involvement of the private
sector in the process of development.
managing fiscal crises, economic externalities, and imperfect contracts
in the credit markets;
overcoming the lack of clear regulatory function and market credibility;
Long-term planning: research and development programs that present an
investment portfolio for attracting private sector interest;
Coordination among diverse state development institutions: cutting
waste, redundancies, and loss of efficiency.
“ Minas Gerais is presents Brazil with a new management model. We have left
behind that motto that Public services are inefficient by nature. We are bringing
private sector management methods , with performance evaluation and the
establishment of goals to be achieved. “ ( Governor Aecio Neves)
