There is increased awareness and recognition that public Cloud providers do provide capabilities not found elsewhere, with elasticity being a major driver. The value of elastic scaling is however tightly coupled to the capabilities of the networks that connect all involved resources, both in the public Clouds and at the various research institutions. This poster presents results of measurements involving file transfers inside public Cloud providers, fetching data from on-prem resources into public Cloud instances and fetching data from public Cloud storage into on-prem nodes. The networking of the three major Cloud providers, namely Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and the Google Cloud Platform, has been benchmarked. The on-prem nodes were managed by either the Pacific Research Platform or located at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. The observed sustained throughput was of the order of 100 Gbps in all the tests moving data in and out of the public Clouds and throughput reaching into the Tbps range for data movements inside the public Cloud providers themselves. All the tests used HTTP as the transfer protocol.

The providers making such services available are know are Cloud Service Providers or Hyperscalars or Cloud Providers or simply as Providers , etc. The leaders in this space are AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.
Cloud Computing has been around for close to 2 decades now (with AWS being the first Cloud Service Provider which started in 2006 and was the only Hyperscalar in market for a complete 4 years after inception). So by now cloud computing is widely recognized by name, but few people really understand how it works. This whitepaper is focused on AWS, but other providers have similar services to AWS. Cloud computing had its early beginnings in the form of Grid Computing, where resources were up and running on a network of connected computers. The same concept has evolved today and abstracted even more and across wider geographical area leading to emergence of what we call today as Cloud. Now why is it called a Cloud – because the location of the Resource or Server hosting the resource on the connected computers or computing devices or data centers does not matter. We simply say that our ‘Database is hosted on the Cloud’ OR ‘our Compute Resources are hosted on the Cloud’.
So then how do we use these digital resources stored in the virtual space – it is by way of networks. It allows people to share information and applications without being restricted by their physical location. To provide tighter integration between the S3 compatible object store and CloudStack, Cloudian has developed a connector to allow users and their applications to utilize the object store directly from within the CloudStack platform in a single sign-on manner with self-service provisioning. Additionally, CloudStack templates and snapshots are centrally stored within the object store and managed through the CloudStack service. The object store offers protection of these templates and snapshots across data centres using replication or erasure coding.

This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).
