Introduction to Data Vault Modeling
Not to be confused with Oracle Database Vault (a commercial db security product), Data Vault Modeling is a specific data modeling technique for designing highly flexible, scalable, and adaptable data structures for enterprise data warehouse repositories. It is not a replacement for star schema data marts (and should not be used as such). This approach has been used in projects around the world (Europe, Australia, USA) for the last 10 years but is still not widely known or understood. The purpose of this presentation is to provide attendees with a detailed introduction to the technical components of the Data Vault Data Model, what they are for and how to build them. The examples will give attendees the basics for how to build, and design structures when using the Data Vault modeling technique. From Traditional Data Warehouse To Real Time Data Warehouse
1) Traditional data warehouses are updated periodically (daily, weekly, monthly) and contain large amounts of historical data to support business intelligence activities. Real-time data warehouses aim to provide more up-to-date information by integrating data from sources more frequently, within minutes or hours.
2) To achieve real-time or near real-time loading, modified ETL processes are used, including near real-time ETL to increase loading frequency, direct trickle loading continuously, or trickle and flip loading to a secondary partition.

The Time is Now! Migrating from OWB to ODI 12c
Prior to the introduction of Data Integrator (ODI), Oracle had another data integration tool: Warehouse Builder (OWB). Usually positioned as an ETL tool, OWB excelled in environments with a strong footprint in the Oracle Database. Oracle's statement of direction has been clear: to deliver a unified data integration platform, combining the best from both tools into a true world class product. With ODI 12c, that day has arrived.
In this presentation, I’ll demonstrate the features available for migrating from OWB to ODI 12c. I’ll also describe a phased approach for doing a “right-time” conversion to ODI 12c, which involves migrating bite-sized chunks of OWB processes over to ODI when that migration adds legitimate value for the customer.

- Welcome to this video in which we’d like to present you our OWB2ODI converter. In this session we will explain: what is happening with OWB why you should convert to ODI and what’s is the most efficient way to do so.
- Soon, OWB will be desupported by Oracle. It will be replaced by ODI, Oracle’s strategic product for high-performance, flexible and heterogeneous data integration.
- The conversion from OWB to ODI can be done using automatic conversion tools. However, such tools never perform well and often require a lot of manual reworking.
- Therefore, RedBridge offers a unique Conversion Service. Our ODI specialists have developed a dedicated OWB2ODI converter. This conversion tool combines intelligent automation and customization to guarantee a smooth and 100% accurate conversion. The conversion is done within a fixed time frame and at a fixed price.
- Apart from the OWB projects, locations, modules and mappings, our OWB2ODI converter ALSO handles Process Flows, converting them into ODI Load Plans.
- The Conversion Process can be split up into 5 steps.
- The first step is the assessment step. Our Converter analyzes the exported OWB mdl file provided by the customer and generates a conversion report. D&T discusses this analysis with the customer and together we decide on how the future ODI topology needs to be configured, how exceptions will be handled, how the Knowledge Modules should be defined and what the configuration management requirements are.
- Once all that has been decided upon, the actual Conversion starts. The Converter imports the mdl file provided by the Customer, extracts all the information about the mappings and process flows and generates the equivalent ODI objects.
- Before releasing the converted project to the customer, the mappings and load plan obtained by the conversion are extensively tested at D&T’s own Services Centre.
- Once all tests have succeeded, the converted ODI materials are installed at the customer’s site and you are up and running.
