The process of migrating Oracle DBs to Amazon RDS is quite complex. Some of the challenges are - capacity planning, efficient loading of data, dealing with limitations of RDS, provisioning instance configurations, and lack and SYSDBA's access to the database. The author has migrated over 20 databases to Amazon RDS, and will provide an insight into how these challenges can be addressed. Once done with the migrations – the support of the databases is very different too, because the SYSDBA access is not provided. The author will talk about his experience on migrating to and supporting databases on Amazon RDS for Oracle from Oracle DBAs perspective, and will reveal the different problems encountered as well the solutions applied.

In this slide deck we show how to implement custom Kafka Serializer for Producer. We then show how failover works configuring when broker/topic config min.insync.replicas, and Producer config acks (0, 1, -1, none, leader, all).
Then tutorial show how to implement Kafka producer batching and compression. Then use Producer metrics API to see how batching and compression improves throughput. Then this tutorial covers using retires and timeouts, and tested that it works. It explains how the setup of max inflight messages and retry back off work and when to use and not use inflight messaging.
It goes on to who how to implement a ProducerInterceptor. Then lastly, it shows how to implement a custom Kafka partitioner to implement a priority queue for important records. Through many of the step by step examples, this tutorial shows how to use some of the Kafka tools to do replication verification, and inspect the topic partition leadership status.

An AWS DMS Replication Journey from Oracle to Aurora MySQLMaris Elsins
Moving to the cloud is still a hot topic these days, and one of the challenges of these migrations is dealing with the databases, that too need to be "cloudified". Sometimes it means changing the flavor of the RDBMS, and sometimes it also means tight downtime windows for the move itself. AWS Data Migration Service (DMS) is one of the obvious options to consider when AWS is involved, but it can be used in other situations too.This presentation is based on a real world project where an oracle database was migrated to AWS Aurora MySQL with the help of AWS DMS. Additionally, a reverse replication from MySQL to Oracle was set up to provide real time data back to a legacy application still connected to the Oracle database. I'll cover the different stages of the project - designing the MySQL database with the help of AWS Schema Conversion Tool, setting up the DMS tasks, monitoring the replication and validating the result. I'll also reveal some issues I faced and solutions we chose.
AWR Difference Reports are very helpful when overall performance information about two different periods needs to be compared. However, if the requirement is to review the trends of performance of a specific query, average length of a particular wait event, or different of a specific statistic over time with a purpose of identification of peaks, the AWR Difference Reports are of little help. This presentation will concentrate on techniques of extracting information from the Automatic Workload Repository to analyze how things change over time, which is useful for both - forecasting and identification of specific time periods when issues affect specific areas of the database.

It is important to understand the configuration of a reliable concurrent processing environment, therefore, topics like PCP, node affinity, load balancing, optimal cache size and sleep time settings, separation of manager duties, request groups and others will be discussed.

A typical tuning session on a resource-constrained system starts with a search for "low-hanging fruit." In a CPU-bound database system, it would be the SQL that uses CPU the most, in an I/O-bound system, the SQL doing the most physical reads, and so on. Tuning the TOP statements often allows us to free large portions of the utilized resources and remove bottlenecks. Often, we can use AWR reports to quickly identify the SQL_IDs of the top statements in the database. But what if the AWR report reveals no "low-hanging fruit," and the resource usage is evenly distributed among multiple statements? Where do we start? Is there a better way to identify the starting point for the tuning of a resource-bound system?
This presentation will explain when the AWR reports are misleading and how we can take a look at the data stored in AWR from a different angle to determine the top consumers. Discussion will include a practical demonstration using scripts for AWR mining that attendees can apply to their own challenging database performance tuning problems.

ODA is a pre-configured, simple setup, high performance engineered system running 11gR2 cluster. It is a great choice for small to medium sized DBs and if you wish it can be used for Oracle EBS DB too. This paper will show you how the standardized configuration of ODA can be adjusted to comply with the specific requirements of e-Business Suite without sacrificing ODA’s flexibility and supportability. The paper will also share author’s experience migrating, running and maintaining R12 database tier on ODA.

As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
