John Locke Primary Qualities
John Locke is an English philosopher and the author of An Essay Concerning Human
Understanding. Locke argues that realities can be divided into two qualities: Primary Qualities and
secondary qualities. The primary qualities are solidity, extension, solidity, extension, figure,
mobility, quantity and texture while the secondary qualities are color, taste, and sound. According
to Locke, primary qualities resemblance to the object ... The ideas of primary qualities of bodies
are resemblances of them, and their patterns do really exist in the bodies themselves... (II. VIII.
XV). The secondary qualities do not resemblance to the object ... But the ideas produced in us by
these secondary qualities have no resemblance of them at all. There is nothing like our ideas,
existing in the bodies themselves. (II. VIII. XV).
Locke uses an example of hot water and cold water. Locke explains why one hand is cold, but to
others is warm, ideas being thus distinguished and understood, we may be able to give an account
how the same water; at the same time, may produce the idea of cold by one hand and of ... Show

The primary qualities of red and white porphyry are figure, texture, solidity, and extension. These
primary qualities, independent of our mind and exist in the external object. The second quality of
porphyry is the color. If a person puts a black light on the porphyry, we now perceive red and
white porphyry as black. The color is dependent on light. The porphyry s solidity stays the same
even though the color disappears. Locke said that ... By the rays of light rebounding from some
parts of that hard stone, to produce in us the idea of redness, and from others the idea of

power to produce such a sensation in us (II. VIII. XIX). We can see a distinction between how we

Apostle Peter And The Last Supper
In Gabriel Sabloff s Apostle Peter and The Last Supper, Sobloff portrays a faithful and powerful
biblical story of dedication, forgiveness, prayer and a message that anything is possible if we
have God in our hearts. This film, stars Robert Loggia, Bruce Marchiano, and Laurence Fuller. This
story is set in Rome in 670 A.D, when Christians were being persecuted for their faith. The Apostle
Peter relives the time he spent with Jesus, from the inspirational Last Supper to the Garden of
Gethsemane. This movie is not only about Jesus, but it also describes the personalities of the
apostles themselves.
In the movie, Apostle Peter has been imprisoned for his believes, he is sentenced to die by
crucifixion. The emperor has announced that followers of Christ should be hunted and persecuted
for their beliefs. While in jail Peter tells the story of Jesus to a young guard named Martinian
(Laurence Fuller) who is more interested in learning about Jesus than he lets on. Though Martinian
risks everything by fraternizing with the Christian prisoner he pressures Peter to tell him of Jesus,
His Message, and his journey with Jesus.
One of the differences between the movie and the Bible is the fact that only the 12 disciples were
present in Jesus Sermon on the Mount when the Bible describes the scene as being crowds
gathering, Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His
disciples came to him, and he began to teach them. (Matt 5:1).

Progressive Education Essay
John Keating, a student at Welton Academy inspired his fellow classmates, to meet in caves and
read challenging poetry of the past, not with flashcards, but with these words, Now, my class,
you will learn to think for yourselves again. You will learn to savor words and language. No
matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world. Typically, students do not
hear enough of this type of passion in a traditional classroom. However, a progressive classroom,
be it a cave or college can inspire students to memorize facts, not because they have to, but rather
because they want to for the betterment of humanity. Society desperately needs students educated
in a progressive style because America needs students who realize... Show more content on

Educational philosopher, Marie Montessori was a strong advocate for such learning, particularly for
children under age three who have a strong interest in learning through the use of movement and
verbal play (So what s Montessori and Piaget?).
John Dewey, another educational philosopher believed Education is a social process. Education is
growth. Education is, not a preparation for life; education is life itself. (Inc.) He felt that learning
took place only when students had internalized what they had gained through experience and
practiced it in their own lives. In a progressive classroom, the teacher designs experiences for
students with the idea that through experience, students build knowledge and skills. A society of
individuals conforming to studying flashcards may be good, but a society of literate individuals
consciously aware of why and how the facts on the flashcards and in mass media can solve new
problems is better.
A progressive classroom looks different, and a progressive teacher inspires unique thinking in
individual students differently, as well. Instead of being strict with a set curriculum and specific
subject to cover, teachers find their students present interests, abilities, and needs. Developing
individualized education plans based on student interests and

Nail Gun Research Paper
While it may seem like a good plan to own a nail gun, its efficacy and level of usage must be
measured before purchase. A simple hammer is more than enough for driving nails destined for
hanging picture frames and paintings. On the other hand, construction and building projects will
require the use of a powerful nail gunthat can get the job done quickly and proficiently. The biggest
good thing about victimization this tool is its ability to quickly shoot varied nails at intervals

comfortable for you to use. choose for an ergonomic design that will help balance the weight of
the tool and make it easier to grip. choose for a nail gun that has a big trigger and safety lock so

Exhaust Plates
Nail guns may release a lot of exhaust and surface dust while being used. The exhaust plate in the
gun ensures that the exhaust is diverted and does not cause discomfort to the user. You might
enhance this feature by selecting a nail gun with adjustable exhaust plates that will be pointed even

Alan Turing s Impact On Modern Day World
Life of Imitation Father of Artificial Intelligence, inventor, Enigma breaker, war hero. The life
of mathematician Alan Turing is one of extreme feats and tragedy. Even from a young age,
Turing was misunderstood and unappreciated, and this became a common theme all the way to
his death at the young age of 41. Alan Turing envisions a digital world centuries ahead of his
time. Everything he did still has a major impact on our modern day world. Yet his impact is still
unrecognized. Alan Mathison Turing was born on June 23, 1912 in Maida Vale, London. Even
from a young age Turing showed signs of a genius, so his parents father Julius Mathison Turing
(1873 1947) and mother Ethel Sara Stoney (1881 1976) enrolled him to St. Michael s Starting
School at the age of six. His teachers noticed his intellect early on, but didn t necessarily appreciate
it. At the age of 13 he attended an independent school in Sherborne, Dorset. Unfortunately the first

Domestic Violence And Its Effects On Society
Murders, rapists, batterers and abusers all have two things in common: they are criminals, and
they all take away some part of another human being s life. Both men and women have to deal
with the everlasting issue of domestic violence. Defined by domesticviolence.org (2012) as a
behavior used by one person in a relationship to control the other , domestic violence can be
physical, emotional, sexual, verbal, or even financial. Although the issue of abusers being punished
is a significant one, it must be realized that there are victims, and those victims need help. Some
countries have no concern or sympathy for victims, as more than twenty countries have no laws
against abuse ( Domestic Violence in Developing Countries: An Intergenerational Crisis, n.d.). In
many cases, victims should be placed in a counseling program so that they can learn that the trauma
they endured was not their fault. Both Sarasota and Manatee counties have shelters for women who
have been abused, however, Sarasota County shelters do not offer counseling. Sarasota County is
saving money by not having to pay for counseling, but the counseling programs are worth the funds
that would have to be put toward them. Domestic violence, when physical, is against the law,
therefore, the perpetrator may be sentence to time in jail. However, these violent criminals, most
often men, do eventually get out of jail. The victims, who often face guilt and even dependency,
usually go back to their abusers, and

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Schizophrenia And Illness Anxiety...
I would diagnose Mr Beaver with Schizophrenia and Illness Anxiety Disorder. At first I thought
that Mr Beaver had Somatic Symptom Disorder due to his constant worrying of brain numbness,
but as I looked deeper into his case I believe his symptoms match Illness Anxiety Disorder. I went
back and forth on which disorder he has or if he only had Schizophrenia. As I looked further into Mr
Beavers case I believe he has Schizophrenia and Illness Anxiety Disorder. The symptoms that are
present that support Schizophrenia include delusions, hallucinations, and negative symptoms. Mr
Beaver showed two types of delusions. The first type was Persecution. As he was leaving the
doctors he had told other patients that the doctors are out to get them, by saying not to trust the
doctors. He also said that the doctors must all be working together and that they were told not to
tell him what is wrong with him. Both of these symptoms are part of the Persecution Delusion.
Due to this feeling he began to isolate himself in his room due to the fact that it was a safe place
for him. The second delusion is Reference Delusion. It was mentioned that Justin Beaver felt that
the TV was talking to him specifically. Mr Beaver also showed two symptoms for hallucinations.
The first one was Auditory Hallucination. While listening to the radio, Justin Beaver would softly
hear his name being called. As he would go and check out where his name was being called from
he would experience a Olfactory Hallucination.

Roman Gladiators Essay
Gladiator
Gladiatorial events were a token of the Roman civilization. A brutal form of sacrifice adapted
from the earlier civilization of Etruscans, who believed when a person dies, his spirit relies on a
blood sacrifice to survive in the afterlife. The first event to take place in Rome was in 264 BC,
when Decimus Brutus held a sacrifice to honor his dead father (Roman Gladiator). Soon after these
events became an undeniable part of the Romans lives, used for political power and general
entertainment. A gladiators life was far from easy. Most were slaves, prisoners of war, or hardened
criminals, therefore they were not free men. Often times they were trained and forced to take part
in the events, hoping for their freedom if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An individual on average would fight about three times a year, and for the rest of the time travel
with the troop. The troops swore an oath to their master, and traveled from city to city looking
for work (Roman Gladiator). The social class of the Gladiators was rather ironic in itself. On one
hand they were considered slaves, that s the lowest class in a social structure, but on the other
hand, some gained popularity and were looked upon as great warriors and heroes. Some rose to
celebrity status in a short time as in the movie when Maximus became a hero to the public eye,
worthy of praise of greater importance than even the king himself. In the movie this was a direct
result in the downfall of Commodus, but this isn t factual, as Maximus is a fictional character. It just
demonstrates the influence the Gladiators had on the public eye, he was the В‘Rockstar of the
Roman Empire . Like anything else, these shows were often times politically based to gain support
for an Emperor. Aside from this they made for great entertainment to divert ones thoughts away
from everyday troubles. What a better way than to see masses of people brutally slaughtered. In
reality and the movie alike, the gladiators wore crude armor, not of military status to depict the
difference in class. Nonetheless they were equipped with the armor and

Activism Is Not For The Faint Of Heart
Activism is not for the faint of heart. The Greensboro Sit Ins were meticulously planned and
executed and those participating in the sit ins were faced with harassment, name calling, and
constant threats of violence from those in opposition. The Montgomery Bus Boycott left many
participants walking, hitchhiking, or cycling to work and called for the organization of alternative
forms of travel such as carpools. Those in alliance with the boycott faced both acts of violence and
jail time. Likewise, some participants in the Mississippi Freedom Summer Project were viciously
kidnapped and murdered, while others were beaten, shot at, and arrested. During the civil rights era,
activism could not be done halfheartedly, one had to immense themselves in the movement and face
the backlash that came with it on the forefront. This activism is in stark contrast with today s social
and political movements, because now our crusading can all be done safely online.
Social media s prevalence is undeniable. From raising awareness to calling people to action, outlets
like Facebook and Twitter have also become powerful tools for political and social revolutions. In
the African Americancommunity, however, the effectiveness of online activism ranges from little
to none. Issues dealing with black people are, more often than not, popular on social networking
sites for a short amount of time and afterwards they tragically fade into obscurity. Many supporters

How To Write A Descriptive Essay On Malabar Farm

Memory And Deep Memory
During her talk, Ethel Sternberg said that it made her very happy when students took her memories
and stored it in the back of their heads. Her words directly relate to Charlotte Delbo s
differentiation between common and deep memory and how this impacts readers of the Holocaust.
Common memory refers to works that are a factual retelling and more importantly, leave the reader
undisturbed by the work. On the other hand, deep memory leaves an impression and affects the
reader in some capacity. One of the challenges that a Holocaust survivor faces when writing about
their experiences is invoking this deep memory. Ethel Sternberg referred as storing it in the back
of their heads while Delbo always repeated, Il faut donner Г voir or that they must be made to see .
In order to transmit a sense of the unthinkable, such as the ambiguity of their survival and the
reason for the Holocaust, writers have to make the reader feel the uncomfortable reality of this
historical event. Authors such as Delbo, Appelfeld, Pagis, and Foer accomplish this by directly
engaging their reader by offering no solution to the Holocaust and concluding on an ambivalent
note. In this way, these writers elicit deep memory by not offering an answer to the Holocaust and
forcing their readers to reconsider the ambiguous qualities of their writings.
In Auschwitz and After, Delbo s Marie Louise establishes the issue of common memory and how
individuals will assume that they understand the Holocaust. The

Today, the fashion industry is pumping out thousands of fur coats for prospective buyers. The
attempt of masking the true price of retrieving that fur by glamorizing coats is beyond most buyer s
attention. Some people know that animals go through pain when their fur is taken for the purpose
of fashion, but most people do not understand the extent of the mutilation they go through. To be
sure the furis fresh and neat, certain animals are sometimes skinned alive. Fur farming is not only
inhumane, but it also has a negative effect on nature. Fur farming is bad for the environment, brutal

To catch the animals, the farmers use a device called a leg hold trap. A study in Wheeler Nation
Wildlife Refuge discovered that 26% of animals would actually attempt to bite of their limbs in
order to escape one of these traps in the hopes of survival ( Ranch Fur Cruelties ). The fact that
animals are willing to chew of their body parts in order to escape means that the leg hold trap
must be painful towards the animals, which means it is an inhumane way of capturing an animal.
Fur farming has been around for many years, but not always for the poor purpose of fashion.
Although there are countless disadvantages with fur farming, many individuals are blinded by the
glamour of the fur fashion industry to see that. One of the most crucial issues is how badly fur
farming effects the environment which is almost always a victim of a human s doing.
Effecting the environment has been a common issue that seems to keep resurfacing all over the
world. While raw animal fur pelts may be biodegradable, the fur industry conveniently neglects to
mention the fact that all of the animal skins used to make fur go through a tanning process (
Nothing Humane about Fur Farms ). Tanning is a process that uses environmentally damaging
toxins such as formaldehydes and strong acids. These chemicals are a danger to the atmosphere,
helping destroy the environment which is already being damaged by other human made things such
as carbon dioxide from cars or grime from nuclear plants. The

The National Interagency Incident Management System
ICS is an institutionalized on scene occurrence administration idea outlined particularly to permit
responders to embrace a coordinated authoritative structure equivalent to the multifaceted nature
and requests of any single incident or different occurrences without being upset by jurisdictional
limits. In the mid 1970s, ICS was created to oversee quickly moving fierce fires and to address the
accompanying issues including an excess of individuals answering to one manager, distinctive
crisis reaction authoritative structures, absence of solid incident information and data, insufficient
and inconsistent exchange of information, absence of structure for composed organizing among
offices, indistinct lines of power and terminology contrasts among offices, and unclear or
unspecified incident destinations. In 1980, government authorities transitioned ICS into a national
project called the National Interagency Incident Management System (NIIMS), which turned into
the premise of a reaction administration framework for every elected agency with out of control
fire administration obligations (Ready.Gov, 2007). From that point forward, numerous government
organizations have supported the utilization of ICS, and a few have mandated its utilization. An
ICS empowers incorporated correspondence and founding so as to arrange a reasonable compass
of control. An ICS partitions a crisis reaction into five reasonable capacities crucial for crisis

Southwest Airlines Hub Capacity and Congestion Management
ASCI602 The Air Transportation System
06 June 2015
Abstract
Southwest Airlines shot out of the gates, much to the chagrin of their competitors as a short haul,
low fare, and high frequency carrier. As SWA expanded and deregulation occurred, they had to
decide what kind of airline they wanted to be and how they would adapt to the changing
environment. The FAA reports that passenger numbers are expected to reach a billion passengers
in 2023 (FAA, 2011). Most Airlines are responding to the increased demand by centralizing and
consolidating their assets. This in turn creates a situation where capacity is maximized in some
airports and congestion increases causing significant delay. Demand will continue to rise over the
next few decades and these airlines must rely on regulators and policy makers to upgrade the very
necessary infrastructure and technology. Southwest s strategy is to remain a point to point carrier
instead of the traditional hub and spoke carrier, satisfying their customer demand with lower
congestion at underutilized airports with more flights. However Southwest continues to remain
flexible looking forward as it adopts hub and spoke techniques, coordinates with the FAA and
governing bodies, and invests heavily in its most important airports to stay ahead of the pack.
In the early seventies, SWA was begun by a couple of innovators in Teas, Rollin King and

Essay Of Prenatal Screening In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In her novel, Frankenstein, Mary Shelley warns of the boundaries of scientific exploration. Victor
Frankenstein, a brilliant scientist, attempts to play God in resurrecting a corpse and creating new
life. This has disastrous effects which include the death of many characters throughout the novel.
All told, the story provides a cautionary tale of the attempts to play God in regards to scientific
advancement. This raises the question of how far is too far in terms of scientific exploration. With
the increasing popularity of eugenics in regards to prenatal screening, one can t help but wonder, is
this the dangerous idea of playing God that Shelley warned us about? One of the most common

During IVF, the egg is typically fertilized in a lab before being implanted into the uterus. Before
transferring the embryo into the uterus, some fertility clinics offer patients the option of choosing
what sex embryo they want. Although IVF is more commonly used for families struggling with
infertility rather than for the sole purpose of sex selection, sex selection is still an option. This
seems both futuristic and controversial but Codington Lacerte argues that prenatal sex selection
methods allow parents to make informed choices about the makeup of their families (Codington

a sex for their child, parents aren t really damaging society. However, by giving parents the ability
to choose whether they want a male or female child, the possibility of a skewed sex ratio greatens.
In countries where sex selection is common, gender biases are already skewing the sex. According
to Codington Lacerte, Americans also exhibit a son preference (Codington Lacerte, Counterpoint:

The song implements on the hardships a mother will face for the growth of their son because
love is what keeps them going. The love a mother will have for her son means that even though
they don t have a father figure around to show them how to grow up, they will always have their
mothers to teach them the way of life through a woman s perspective. In the song, Dear Mama ,
Tupac mentions, For a woman it ain t easy trying to raise a man, you always was committed and
he is able to foreshadow the hardships his mother had to face while Tupac was growing up

Since Tupac was young he got involved into the hustle and was left in the streets where he

My Interest In Soccer
My interest in soccer as a child began when I was knocked down by a soccer ball at the age of
eleven. Ever since that day I started following my dad to watch him play soccer with his friends.
He was the talk of many of his friends, because of his talent and skills behind the ball. I began to
develop the interest for soccer without realizing it, some few months after, I decided to join the
school soccer team. I remember working very hard every evening after school, just to prepare
myself for the school teams try out. Eventually my hard work paid off. I was selected as part of
the starting eleven for the first soccer game. I remember vividly, seeing my number one fan my
dad, cheering me on from the sideline. My dad gave so much of his time to see my dream come
true and I was so appreciative to have such a caring parent. Playing soccer was one of the best
moment in my life. So, I decided to put my all in the game of soccer, practice after practice made
me perfect in the field of soccer, I developed my own skills and it helped since I was working
very hard on the pitch. I always had that feeling that when it came to soccer I was the best no
matter what. This feeling started when I realized that no matter how hard my team mates trained,
they still could not match up with me. All was well with my soccer career until my seventh year in
school when we had to playagainst a neighboring school. Being the best the player on my team, it
came with a lot of responsibilities,

Underage Drinking Is Part Of The Culture Of College
By the time high school students are seniors around 70 percent of students have had alcohol and
the number will increase more as they begin college (IUPUI). With being in college one thing
that I did discover is that underage drinking is part of the culture in college, also the friends that
I had in high school who are 21 now I have discovered they drink some of the least amount now.
Which has begun to make me wonder why people who are 21 drink less than people who are
underage. I believe that when people are 21 they now do not have to worry about the next time
they can get alcohol. Congress should lower the drinking age from 21 to 18 because at age 18
when they are in college, for some students it will be the first time of it being acceptable to drink
alcohol. Most college students are putting their health at risk with binge drinking. They are not
introduced to alcohol at a younger age and drink because they do not know the next time they
will get alcohol, so they will start to binge drink drinking a high content of alcohol quickly and
dangerously. Although it may introduce alcohol to people of younger ages, it will help them
mature more quickly knowing they do not have to worry about the next time they will get
alcohol. With lowering the drinking age, it will have positive effects on the economy and society,
it will be beneficial because it will prevent younger people from binge drinking, and people are
legally adults at the age of 18 can vote and serve for their

Onomatopoeia For A Burning House
What is an onomatopoeia for a burning house? Snap? Crackle? Pop? Well, whatever that sound
is, just imagine it on a cold but not snowy winter s night, a night that started out as a trip to the
movies but backfired. See what I did there. My house set ablaze last December, of course it had
the week of Christmas, and I lost everything. When I say everything I mean it, my house was
gutted, my room was charred and smoked, and my brother s kittens died. I was distraught, all of
the art I had ever done was gone, my cat was missing in a burning house, and worst of all, I lost
the only home I d ever known. All of this is material and I ve heard a million times that at least no
one was hurt , but that s not true. I was hurt, my brother was hurt, my sister and my motherwere

The Exceptional Life Of Walt Disney
The Exceptional Life of Walter Elias Disney All of our dreams can come true, if we have the
courage to pursue them Walt Disney
Walter Elias Disney has made one of the greatest impacts in the entertainment industry and popular
culture around the world (Walter Elias Disney, 2015). From his most famous creation, Mickey
Mouse, to his invention of Disneyland, and to all his achievements made in the movie industry,
Walt has changed the world. Few individuals have had the ability to impact the world they way
Walt Disney did and still is doing today even though he is no longer alive (Walter Elias Disney,
2015).
Walt was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 5 of 1901. He was the son of Elias Disney and
Flora Call. Walt was raised near Marceline and in Kansas City, Missouri. Walt s childhood was
anything but exceptional. His father was very strict and administered corrective beatings daily to
Walt and his brother Roy (Walter Elias Disney, 2015). He found his escape from his father through
writing. When he wrote, he felt happy and in control. Walter felt as if anything could be made
possible. When he turned sixteen, Walt took the opportunity to leave his father by joining the Red
Cross Ambulance Corps and went to France (Walter Elias Disney, 2015).
Once Disney returned, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri. Once there, he started working for an
ad company. It was there that Disney decided that making his drawings come to life was the job he

Don Name Changed For Confidentiality Essay

much of his anxiety working with the horses, that I had the pleasure of working under the
supervision of an occupational therapist. When Ben first started working with the program he was
afraid to get near the horseand did not even want to come close enough to get on let alone pet the
horse. We worked with him on deep breathing techniques, muscle control and some speech therapy.
By the end of the eight week session we worked with Ben, he was able to not only get near the
horse, but by the last day, he was giving the horse a kiss on the nose. His mother said that the deep
breathing techniques that we equipped him with not only helped him in therapy, but in his
everyday life when he was feeling anxious. During the summer of 2016, I volunteered as a summer
intern at a therapeutic horseback riding organization, We Can Ride Inc. They offer therapeutic
horse back riding, therapeutic ground lesson working on personal care with the horses, equine

a hands on way with clients to make their lives better. During my eight weeks with We Can Ride

Mitochondria and Chloroplasts Descended from Free-living...
Mitochondria (mt) provide critical function in (a) maintenance of cellular energy supplies, i.e.,
thermoregulation and synthesis of essential molecules (such as phospholipids and heme); (b)
apoptosis or programmed cell death; and (c) mediating multiple cellular signaling pathways (Ryan
and Hoogenraad 2007). It is widely accepted that mitochondria and chloroplasts descended from
free living bacterial ancestors (Dyall et al. 2004). Following their acquisition by eukaryotic cells
during endosymbiotic evolution, most of the genes in these organelles were either lost or
transferred to the nucleus. Today, it is demonstrated that from all mitochondrial proteins (over
1500) most of them (93 99%) are encoded in the nucleus, synthesized in the cytoplasm and then
imported into the organelles (Woodson and Chory 2008). For instance, human mtDNA only
contains 37 genes and codes for 13 encoding polypeptides, 22 tRNAa, and 2 rRNAs (Ryan and
Hoogenraad 2007). The relationship between organelles and the nucleus is continually evolving to
suit an organism s needs. Based on the above mentioned close relationship, a strict communication
between mitochondria, chloroplasts and the nucleus is indispensible. Hundreds of genetic diseases
in humans and thousands of phenotypic variations in plants and other organisms are known to be
the result of alterations affecting nuclear mitochondrial (NM) communication. These
communication mechanisms include both nucleus to organelle (antrograde) and organelle

Devil In The White City Nonfiction
This book is boring. This book is full of facts. I fell asleep reading this book. These are the
nonfiction genre stereotypes that most people think. Erik Larson changed that stereotype and
wrote a nonfiction book with real characters and overall facts. The Devil in the White City does
not only tell an elaborating true story, but it tries to grab the reader to believe that they are
actually living in 1893 during the Chicago World s Fair trials and tribulations. To tell this story,
Larson combines qualities of a nonfiction book and a generic novelto successfully craft a narrative
built on historical facts, therefore developing distinct persons in the cases and elaborating on what
their possible feelings were. The Devil in the White City is extended biographies of Daniel
Burnham and H.H. Holmes that show the hectic troubles that happened during the World s Fair in
the nineteenth century. Novels tell fictional stories with fictional characters. Instead of making up a
story, Larson emphasizes Burnham and Holmes true stories. Anyone could have wrote about the
Exposition, but that would have been a bore.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Surveillance And The Threat Of Terrorism
Surveillance
Over the decades, as technology advanced, surveillance became easier and easier. In the 21st
century, people live in the world of ubiquitous surveillance, where everything becomes collected,
saved, searched, correlated and analyzed. Surveillance generally means to keep close watch over
someone or something. While a root word in surveillance is veil, which portrays imagery as saving
face, or hiding. The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) and other federal agencies are engaging
in the extensive surveillance to fight crime and reduce the threat of terrorism. Not only does
surveillance fight crime, it proves the honesty and humility of people in the work office or on the
streets. However, surveillance threatens privacy and liberty because it monitors individuals,
meaning that certain information may not be kept secret. This frightens countless people because
the thought of being watched sparks a controversy of the 4th amendment of the constitution. The
4th amendment protects the right against unreasonable searches and seizures. Surveillance
challenges the privacy and liberty of individuals; nevertheless, it upholds the protection and
security of citizens from terrorism and crime. The main purpose of surveillance systems is to
monitor events from a remote or secret location. The capabilities of domestic surveillance expanded
rapidly in recent years due to the equally rapid spread of new technologies that facilitate information
gathering. However, many of the

Mortal Motherhood In The Iliad
It is difficult to reconcile the image of Thetis as a powerful goddess capable of disrupting the

Indeed, due to her reiterated mourning in regards to the mortality of her son, the grief experienced
by Thetis presents her as more debilitated than the other gods and goddesses. Epithets such as

Margaret Atwood Sirens
The Myth of the Sirens Sirens have always been a key point in mythology. In Greek mythology
sirens were a creature half bird and half woman who lured sailors to destruction by the sweetness
of her song (Britannica). Once a man heard their beautiful song it would drive them insane, leading
them into jumping overboard. John William Waterhouse, in his panting Ulysses and the Sirens, he
shows you how the sirens were believed to truly look to the Greeks and how the hideous creatures
would come swooping down and go after the men. Meanwhile in her poem SirenSong , Margaret
Atwood, shows how the sirens would cunningly trick the men with their beautiful singing voice.
The poem Siren Song by Margaret Atwood shows how the sirens would use their cunning ability
to trick the men into coming with them. By analyzing the poem, you could come across the
connection that the author is trying to compare the to tricksters. The sirens draw you in by saying
I will tell the secret to you, to you, only to you (Lines 19 20). This peaks the inner curiosity of
man. The tone of the poem could be described as manipulative, since the sirens main goal is to
manipulate you into following them. An example of their manipulation is Only you, only you can,
you are unique (Lines... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Feminist Criticism In The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir
Simone de Beauvoir is an incredibly influential French philosopher, writer, activist, intellectual, and
social theorist. In 1949, she wrote what is perhaps her most noteworthy text, The Second Sex . In
the novel, Beauvoir explores the notion of femininity and the history of the relationship between
men and women, and makes the ambitious claim that One is not born, but rather becomes, Woman.
(283) This bold statement has sparked the interest of many feminist activists and scholars, but for
one to truly understand Beauvoir s work, one must ask, what does it mean? Although this
statement is ostensibly simple, it holds great meaning and depth. Essentially, it signifies that
women are taught to be women, by their mothers and by society, and are not simply born being
society s definition of a woman. She exemplifies this on multiple occasions in her novel. In one
instance, she writes, It is here that little girls first appear privileged. A second weaning, slower
and less brutal than the first one, withdraws the mother s body from the child s embraces; but little
by little boys are the ones who are denied kisses and caresses; the little girlcontinues to be doted
upon... (285) Here Beauvoir shows that even from birth, the stereotype that girls are more delicate
and fragile than boys is perpetuated by parents treating girls with more affection and delicacy. In
another example, she states, The boyis also brought up by his mother in the beginning; but she
respects his maleness

My Greatest Memories Of Literacy In My Life
As a child, I remember sitting in my shared bedroom with my oldest sister on the bunk
underneath me, and learning how to read with my leap frog. To me it felt like a toy, but there
were mini books you would place in it and you simply picked up the stylus and touched words
and pictures. As you touched the designated items the speaker would say the words, and play
music sometimes related. My literacy would have been dependent on the educational
opportunities around me, and how wealthy the area was I went to school in, but my mother
always made sure I had what I needed to succeed, lik the leap frog for example. This is my
earliest memory of literacy in my life. My kindergarten teachers were Ms.Tempest and
Ms.Hawkins, I was in their morning class. I vaguely recall writing in this class, but I remember
reading a lot. My family moved quite frequently due to my father being in the Navy so we ended
up in Virginia Beach and I attended Green Run Elementary school. This was not a nice area to
grow up in. My sisters, and I were not allowed outside without my parents ever. I think the area
we were in impacted the literacy in my school. We didn t have as many opportunities as other
schools did. My mother always took it upon herself to read to me before bed though, I think she
knew my educationwas sub par,but she didn t want my future to be affected by that. We read every
single night before bed. Our favorite stories were The Frog, and the Toad, Geraldine s first snow,

The Importance Of Student Privacy
Safety and privacy both are important factors on a College campus. In 2007, Seung Hui Cho, an
angry and disturbed student, shot to death 32 students and faculty of Virginia Tech, wounded 17
more, and then killed himself. Cho was a mentally disturbed student who had suicidal and homicidal
tendencies. Ever since the Virginia Tech shooting happened, there has been debate whether safety is
more important than student privacyor not. Many people claim that privacy protection laws are the
reasons that campuses aren t safe anymore, where others believe that everyone needs personal space
and a right to have privacy. There are people who claim that student privacy should be ignored to
maintain campus safety, where others believe that every student should have the right of privacy;
however, student privacy should be protected, while alternative methods for campus safety should
be taken. Many people believe that campus safety is more important than student privacy, hence it
should be ignored. There have been incidents where disturbed students sometimes hurt themselves
and sometimes hurt others, like the Virginia Tech incident. After the incident, many people came
forward claiming that they knew that the student was disturbed, and need assistance, but due to
student privacy laws, they didn t do anything. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

How Business Reward And Motivate The Team Behind It...
Startups don t generally start with a load of money. Finances are often stretched thin and rewarding
the hardworking team behind the business can be difficult. One way to handle financing is to
provide shares for the team through a process called vesting.
This guide will look to explain what vesting is all about and how a startup can set up a successful
vesting scheme. The aim is to help your business reward and motivate the team behind it without
stretching company finances too thin.
What is vesting?
Before you venture into setting up a vesting scheme, you must fully understand what it means.
Vesting is essentially a process by which the parties in the startup accrue non forfeitable rights over
the stock ownership of the business. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, if they leave after two years, they might retain 50% of what they owned.
If founder B leaves after two years, he or she will retain 22.5%. Founder B can walk away with the
share, or founder A can purchase the 22.5% back for a reasonable price. The rest of the shares will
be forfeited. If the founder leaves after four years, he or she will retain the full 45%.
The benefits of setting up a vesting scheme
Vesting is essentially a scheme to protect the business. Consider a business starts without a
vesting scheme. Founder A and founder B both have 50% of the business and work hard in order
for the business to succeed. But one day, founder B announces he will leave. Founder B can walk
away with 50% ownership of the company, while founder A has to try to salvage the situation. If
the business succeeds, founder B will get to enjoy the fruits of A s labour.
But as the example vesting scheme showed, founder B wouldn t be able to walk out with
everything until the vesting scheme is completed. Therefore, the vesting scheme can act as an
incentive for employees. The longer they work with the business and help it to succeed, the more
they will gain. While the vesting scheme can protect the business from walking out, it naturally also
provides benefits for the members of the vesting scheme. Instead of simply being part of the payroll,
the members of the scheme can reap the benefits of the business succeeding through the

The Representation of Minorities in American Cinema Essay
The Representation of Minorities in American Cinema
As the semester progressed and we continued learning how Latinos have been misrepresented

and how Jews were portrayed in films of the same era. I grew up learning about the various
stereotypes that have been associated with Jews throughout history, but never have I explored the
portrayals of Jews through film history in the United States. My curiosity led me to research

In the same way that American cinema placed Latinos and Latinas in certain roles in film, it also
made specific characters for the Jewish actors.
As Ramirez Berg states, it is difficult to find examples of Hispanic characters in mainstream
Hollywood cinema who are complex and self determining (Ramirez Berg, 104). Hispanic male
characters were limited to such roles as the evil greaser , the villainous bandit , or the suave
Latin lover in the films made in the early nineteen hundreds. The Latin Lover character and other
Latino character types present the Latino men as weak, unintelligent, and villainous, in contrast
to the strong Anglo heroes. The range of roles played by Hispanic female characters in early
American cinema was even more constricted than that of the males. The limited character types
are mainly a result of their primary function as the Anglo love interest. Film Chicanas,
Mexicanas, and other Latinas, then, served mainly as passive sexual goals to be sought by active
Anglo heroes and as living proof of Anglo superiority over Latino men (Cortes, 128). The role
most often filled by Latina actresses was that of a cantina girl, basically a dancing, singing, sex
object. The common belief at the time was that After all, they were Latinas. Their strengths, if they
had any, were decidedly female. They had reached the limit of the era s Latina

He depicts firstly the dairy workers gossiping about the new wife , using dialect expressions
such as rosy cheeked and tisty tosty little body . Later there is an introduction of the thin fading
Rhoda Brooks, and so the author also creates interest in the origin of their differing lifestyles.
Both Turned and The Withered Arm juxtapose two lifestyles, one that is superior to the other.
Rhoda and her son are set in The Withered Arm as lying apart from the others , inhabiting a
cottage with mud walls and a thatch that has a rafter showing like a bone protruding through the

I mostly have acquaintances, people who I would talk to but won t tell them personal stuff.
Anyways my physical health isn t the best. I keep having of back pains, and sometimes chest
pains that hurt like crazy. That is why my resolution is to exercise. I m starting in Spring where I
can do much more stuff like play sports and go walking. It s also a great thing that I m in gym, if
I wasn t I wouldn t know about all the problems that could happen to me if I kept being lazy. I
judge my behaviors have something to do with my problems.
It is important to think about your behaviors because you need think about how it will affect you
and the other person. If you call someone ugly and say just kidding you don t know how that
person will feel about you saying that. The person might be laughing now, but later they will look
back at that comment and start thinking about if they are ugly or not. There are people who can
take jokes, there are people who can t. Just put together who is and isn t. There are times in class
when you are learning something, and there is that one person who wants to talk in class when you
re learning. They aren t thinking about how they are making others feel, just themselves. When you
say something they start getting defensive for no reason. That s why you don t say something. You
can t do anything but tell the teacher, or just learn from them. Don t be the person who will hurt
others education. They aren t hurting anyone

Analysis Of Terence Hanbury White s The Once And Future King
Arthurian legend, with its round table, wizard, unfaithful queen, gallant knight, vengeful son, and
well intentioned king, has long been retold. While most authors employed the legend as a tapestry
to depict religious themes, The Once and Future King uniquely utilizes the tale to provide a
political critique of the author s modern day society. Terence Hanbury White embraced Malory s
version by creating four sequential books eventually published together under the title The Once
and Future King. Shifting away from the heavily Christian oriented tale, White uses the story of
King Arthuras platform to express his opinions on his own world during the mid 1900 s.
Focusing on the increasingly divided, violent attitudes of his generation, White imposes an
alternative vision of the utility of war. As he converges on and diverges from pacifistic
sentiment, White s first book, The Sword and the Stone and fourth book, The Candle in the Wind
illustrate political critique of both old and new society. The golden lines of The Sword in the
Stone and The Candle in the Wind earn their status from the way they encapsulate the
predominant pacifistic theme through symbolism. When young Arthur lives among geese, he
notices sentries keeping watch, and confused of their purpose, he asks a goose by the name of
Lyo Lyok if they are preparing for war amongst their flock. The disgusted goose responds, But what
creature could be so low as to go about in bands, to murder others of its own blood?

Reacting to the Past:
Athens, 403 BCE
Self/Peer Evaluation Assignment
Self Evaluation:
Using the rubric on the back, what participation grade do you believe you earned in the Athens
game? Explain and justify your estimation in 2 or more sentences.
I believe that I received an A for participation because I attended every class/game session. During
every session, I spoke on the issue(s) at hand, while referencing the book and the works provided
in the book. I understood the goals of my faction and character and tried to persuade others to see
the issues the way the Oligarchs saw them.
Did you accomplish the goals of your character/ your faction? Explain.
During Game Session One, I accomplished my personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If I would have spoken, Socrates might have been given more amnesty and might still be in Athens.
Was there a moment in the game where it finally clicked, where you finally felt in the game ?
Explain.
During an outside meeting with the Followers of Socrates the game finally made sense to me. I
was outside of class talking in character to other classmates; I was finally making the connections
the book said I would need to make. The rest of the game seemed easier after I gained a greater
understanding of the purpose of the game.
If you could go back in time to the beginning of the game, knowing what you know now about the
game experience, what piece of advice would you offer? What do you wish you knew then?
I wish I would have known that collaboration with other factions and the indeterminates was a must
to succeed in the game. If I had known this at the beginning of the game, I would have been more
proactive in contacting the indeterminates to determine which faction they might have been siding
with.
Collaboration
One purpose of the game is to help students to develop better collaborative and leadership skills.
Part of this is identifying one s own strengths and weaknesses in this regard while also realizing
what makes an effective working group and what does not.

Causes Of Job Stress
The Risks of Job Stress
According to the American Institute of Stress, stress is impossible to measure. What may be
stressful for one person may not be stressful to another. There is good stress, which is also known
as eustress, and that is a good feeling we get when something good, new, and exciting is happening.
Then there is the not so good stress which only turns bad if it becomes chronic stress. The reason
chronic stress is so worrisome is because we are not naturally made to deal with it for long
periods of time, and eventually it will start to show symptoms either through your body or your
mental stability. The main causes of stress in the United States is job pressure, and 77% of
people regularly experience physical symptoms of stress (American Institute of Stress.) while
73% of people regularly experience psychological symptoms caused by stress. (American Institute
of Stress.) If you are looking for a reason to quit that job that makes you miserable then look no
further. Other than making you miserable, staying at a job you hate can have a great deal of other
side effects. There are links connecting job stress and metabolic syndrome, as well as links
connecting job stress to psychological disorders and weight gain. Some people must take whatever
they can get when it comes to jobs, however staying at a job one hates could be detrimental to said
persons health.
First, a person who hates their job is much more likely to

Analysis Of A Flower Garden By Li Bai
This poem creates a scene in which the poet, Li Bai is sitting alone under the moonlight as he
sips on his drink and can share his loneliness with no one but the moon and his shadow. By
pointing out that he is at a flower garden with moonlight shined upon him and a pot of wine by his
side, the setting of the poem is rather pleasant and relaxing. The poet, however, appears to be
frustrated because he has no real friends who are there for him. With a quick thought, LiBai decides
to think the moonand his shadow as his companion and meanwhile starts to sing and dance with
them. The fact that neither the moon nor his shadow is animated does not bother Li Bai as he
slowly gets more involved in the atmosphere he created for himself, or, in his words, it makes us
[them] three . From there on, the poet does not care about what other people think of him
anymore and instead starts to live his life the way that will not leave behind any regrets. In order
to achieve such impression and create an image for the readers, Li Bai incorporates myriad
rhetorical devices in the writing of the poem. Out of all techniques being used, imagery is one
that appears throughout the poem. The poem opens up with an image of a flower garden a
which indicates the poet s location and sets the tone for the slight twist in emotion in next
couple of lines of the poem. The poet s mentioning of his loneliness sharply contrasts the setting
in which both wine and flowers are supposed to bring a sense of prosperity and happiness.
Moving on, the fourth and fifth lines express Li Bai s loneliness by creating an image of the
faraway moon and his shadow. The line states that the moon is too far away to enjoy the wine
with Li Bai, and his shadow cannot communicate with or truly comprehend the poet. Li Bai s use
of the phrase creeps about my heels to describe the behavior of his shadow is interesting
thoughtful, showing that even though the shadow is very close to him in distance, Li Bai feels
as if all the shadow does is blindly following him. Considering Li Bai s experience of rejecting the
government official s position in Chang an the capital of China because of his unwillingness to
sacrifice his entire life for the Royals monetary

Analysis Of Bloom s Original Cognitive Process
A group of educators collaborated to develop classifications of learning objectives for the purpose
of creating lessons and the evaluations to accompany them. They constructed objectives to reveal
what students would be able to perform according to the education and organized them in relation
to their level of difficulty. The outcome is extensively recognized as Bloom s taxonomy. However,
there are adaptations that have drawn from Bloom and his colleagues efforts such as those from
Anderson, one of Bloom s former students, as well as Stiggins (O Donnell, Reeve Smith, 2012). In
Bloom s original cognitive process there are six thinking skills and abilities that comprise of
knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, evaluation, and synthesis. In Bloom s revised
taxonomy, modifications were made to the original version to deal with the drawbacks found in the
previous version. The improved framework now distinguishes from knowing what and knowing
how or the matter of thinking and the process utilized in problem solving (Anderson Krathwohl,
2001). Anderson and his associates assert meaningful learning presents students with the knowledge
and cognitive means required for solving problems (Anderson Krathwohl, 2001). The revised
version adapted by Anderson and Krathwohl consists of remembering, understanding, applying,
analysis, evaluation, and creating (O Donnell, Reeve Smith, 2012). By utilizing these as an outline

Energy Systems In Football
The fitness components mentioned previously use different energy systems throughout the game.
Energy whilst playing football can be derived from two metabolic processes: aerobic and
anaerobic. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is necessary for all muscle contraction however this store
will only last for a limited period of time, as such other systems must be used during football to
compensate for this. Footballers use these energysystems in varying degrees relative to their
position.
Bloomfield, et al calculated that a footballer s energy expenditure can be determined by the
purposeful movement (PM) of the player; relative to the position this PM may be a series of
movements. A table detailing the Bloomfield Movement Classification can be seen... Show more

These sprints are fuelled by the ATP PC system and the anaerobic glycolysis system which use up
the creatine phosphate (CP). It allows for up to approximately В±12 seconds of maximum effort
ring these sprints the supply of ATP is quickly used up, as such CP donates phosphate for the
synthesis of ATP through the creatine kinase reaction (Bangsbo 1994). Footballers will also use
glycogen in the form of carbohydrates when the intensity is high an is prolonged. Glycogen is
stored in the muscle and is broken down anaerobically, however this is a finite store also and
Bangsbo (2007) found that the muscle glycogen store is depleted by half time.
Energy expenditure also depends on the formation and tactical strategies, depending on whether the
team are playing a defensive or attacking style.
Serie A teams, for example, are notoriously defensive minded and perform more short passes
during the match than the opposing team of lesser calibre, according to Rampinini et al. Hence, a
better team will have more possession and thus will perform more less intensity running than the
opposing team. Rampinini et al also showed that the number of short passes decreased in the
second half with respect to the first, which is probably due to

Reasoning for Keeping Physical Education in the Curriculum
Dear Mr Vaughan
I am writing in accordance to the letter you sent out about abolishing Physical Education from your
school s curriculum. I wish to express my reasoning and justifications for Physical Education to be
included.
My main issue is with your statement that PE should be abolished because it has little
educational significance. I could not disagree more, it has more significance, as it doesn t go in
pursuit of knowledge per say, it aims to achieve: An improvement in perceptual knowledge of
everyday surroundings, this helps to give students a greater ability to respond to situations in
appropriate way; It also helps the students to focus, if they are in a game situation, they will focus
on what they re doing in order to respond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They will learn how to compete with themselves and others. This, alongside a degree of self
improvement can be powerful life skills that could prove very useful in their future careers. Other
skills that PE can offer an assistance with are: team building and leadership skills that will also
provoke the awareness of the people around you and make the students alert to how the peers
around them work and give them guidance and support on how to improve or overcome some
problems or obstacles they may encounter, be this within PE, other lessons, and everyday life.
I feel strongly about the inclusion of PE as it can completely change the attitudes of students for a
more positive point of view on many subjects. It has many more positive implications on students
than it does negatives, your students will have a break from the typical classroom environment and
get a break from just sitting in class and having to swallow a large intake of information which, can
be difficult for some students. Learning becomes practical and more student oriented which can
involve those students who learn in: kinaesthetic, auditory, and visual ways. The students who find
sitting and having to read and make notes difficult have ample opportunity to excel in Physical
Education, as they have a chance to learn in their preferred way and gain self esteem and
confidence to try more

Free Will In A Clockwork Orange
A Clockwork Orange
The freedom of choice and the rehabilitating form of corrections secures the domain of A
Clockwork Orange by Burgess. It produces the question about a mans free will and the ability to
choose ones destiny good or evil.
Burgess emphasize the thought that man can not be completely good or evil and must have both
in order to create a moral choice . The book is based on revamping a criminal with only good
morals and programing an automated response to evil. If he can only perform good or only
perform evil, then he is a clockwork orange meaning that he has the appearance of an organism
lovely with color and juice but is in fact only a clockwork toy to be wound up by God or the Devil

the medical treatment which involves in forcing a persons to be morally better , he brings up an
question for Alex What makes an real moral person . I must confess I share those doubts. But the
curiosity leads whether an experimental treatment can really make a man good or not . Goodness

Locke argues that realities can be divided into two qualities: Primary Qualities and secondary qualities. According to Locke, primary qualities resemblance to the object ... The ideas of primary qualities of bodies are resemblances of them, and their patterns do really exist in the bodies themselves... There is nothing like our ideas, existing in the bodies themselves. (II. VIII. XV). Locke uses an example of hot water and cold water. • 3. Apostle Peter And The Last Supper In Gabriel Sabloff s Apostle Peter and The Last Supper, Sobloff portrays a faithful and powerful biblical story of dedication, forgiveness, prayer and a message that anything is possible if we have God in our hearts. This film, stars Robert Loggia, Bruce Marchiano, and Laurence Fuller. This story is set in Rome in 670 A.D, when Christians were being persecuted for their faith. The Apostle Peter relives the time he spent with Jesus, from the inspirational Last Supper to the Garden of Gethsemane. This movie is not only about Jesus, but it also describes the personalities of the apostles themselves. In the movie, Apostle Peter has been imprisoned for his believes, he is sentenced to die by crucifixion. The emperor has announced that followers of Christ should be hunted and persecuted for their beliefs. While in jail Peter tells the story of Jesus to a young guard named Martinian (Laurence Fuller) who is more interested in learning about Jesus than he lets on. Though Martinian risks everything by fraternizing with the Christian prisoner he pressures Peter to tell him of Jesus, His Message, and his journey with Jesus. One of the differences between the movie and the Bible is the fact that only the 12 disciples were present in Jesus Sermon on the Mount when the Bible describes the scene as being crowds gathering, Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them. (Matt 5:1). Apostle Peter and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Progressive Education Essay John Keating, a student at Welton Academy inspired his fellow classmates, to meet in caves and read challenging poetry of the past, not with flashcards, but with these words, Now, my class, you will learn to think for yourselves again. You will learn to savor words and language. No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world. Typically, students do not hear enough of this type of passion in a traditional classroom. However, a progressive classroom, be it a cave or college can inspire students to memorize facts, not because they have to, but rather because they want to for the betterment of humanity. Society desperately needs students educated in a progressive style because America needs students who realize... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Educational philosopher, Marie Montessori was a strong advocate for such learning, particularly for children under age three who have a strong interest in learning through the use of movement and verbal play (So what s Montessori and Piaget?). He felt that learning took place only when students had internalized what they had gained through experience and practiced it in their own lives. In a progressive classroom, the teacher designs experiences for students with the idea that through experience, students build knowledge and skills. A society of individuals conforming to studying flashcards may be good, but a society of literate individuals consciously aware of why and how the facts on the flashcards and in mass media can solve new problems is better. A progressive classroom looks different, and a progressive teacher inspires unique thinking in individual students differently, as well. • 7. Alan Turing s Impact On Modern Day World Life of Imitation Father of Artificial Intelligence, inventor, Enigma breaker, war hero. The life of mathematician Alan Turing is one of extreme feats and tragedy. Even from a young age, Turing was misunderstood and unappreciated, and this became a common theme all the way to his death at the young age of 41. Alan Turing envisions a digital world centuries ahead of his time. Everything he did still has a major impact on our modern day world. Yet his impact is still unrecognized. Alan Mathison Turing was born on June 23, 1912 in Maida Vale, London. Even from a young age Turing showed signs of a genius, so his parents father Julius Mathison Turing (1873 1947) and mother Ethel Sara Stoney (1881 1976) enrolled him to St. Michael s Starting School at the age of six. • 8. Domestic Violence And Its Effects On Society Murders, rapists, batterers and abusers all have two things in common: they are criminals, and they all take away some part of another human being s life. Both men and women have to deal with the everlasting issue of domestic violence. Defined by domesticviolence.org (2012) as a behavior used by one person in a relationship to control the other , domestic violence can be physical, emotional, sexual, verbal, or even financial. Although the issue of abusers being punished is a significant one, it must be realized that there are victims, and those victims need help. Some countries have no concern or sympathy for victims, as more than twenty countries have no laws against abuse ( Domestic Violence in Developing Countries: An Intergenerational Crisis, n.d.). In many cases, victims should be placed in a counseling program so that they can learn that the trauma they endured was not their fault. Both Sarasota and Manatee counties have shelters for women who have been abused, however, Sarasota County shelters do not offer counseling. Sarasota County is saving money by not having to pay for counseling, but the counseling programs are worth the funds that would have to be put toward them. Domestic violence, when physical, is against the law, therefore, the perpetrator may be sentence to time in jail. However, these violent criminals, most often men, do eventually get out of jail. The victims, who often face guilt and even dependency, usually go back to their abusers, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At first I thought that Mr Beaver had Somatic Symptom Disorder due to his constant worrying of brain numbness, but as I looked deeper into his case I believe his symptoms match Illness Anxiety Disorder. I went back and forth on which disorder he has or if he only had Schizophrenia. As I looked further into Mr Beavers case I believe he has Schizophrenia and Illness Anxiety Disorder. The symptoms that are present that support Schizophrenia include delusions, hallucinations, and negative symptoms. Mr Beaver showed two types of delusions. The first type was Persecution. As he was leaving the doctors he had told other patients that the doctors are out to get them, by saying not to trust the doctors. He also said that the doctors must all be working together and that they were told not to tell him what is wrong with him. Both of these symptoms are part of the Persecution Delusion. Due to this feeling he began to isolate himself in his room due to the fact that it was a safe place for him. The second delusion is Reference Delusion. It was mentioned that Justin Beaver felt that the TV was talking to him specifically. Mr Beaver also showed two symptoms for hallucinations. The first one was Auditory Hallucination. A brutal form of sacrifice adapted from the earlier civilization of Etruscans, who believed when a person dies, his spirit relies on a blood sacrifice to survive in the afterlife. The first event to take place in Rome was in 264 BC, when Decimus Brutus held a sacrifice to honor his dead father (Roman Gladiator). Soon after these events became an undeniable part of the Romans lives, used for political power and general entertainment. A gladiators life was far from easy. The troops swore an oath to their master, and traveled from city to city looking for work (Roman Gladiator). The social class of the Gladiators was rather ironic in itself. On one hand they were considered slaves, that s the lowest class in a social structure, but on the other hand, some gained popularity and were looked upon as great warriors and heroes. Some rose to celebrity status in a short time as in the movie when Maximus became a hero to the public eye, worthy of praise of greater importance than even the king himself. In the movie this was a direct result in the downfall of Commodus, but this isn t factual, as Maximus is a fictional character. It just demonstrates the influence the Gladiators had on the public eye, he was the В‘Rockstar of the Roman Empire . Like anything else, these shows were often times politically based to gain support for an Emperor. Aside from this they made for great entertainment to divert ones thoughts away from everyday troubles. What a better way than to see masses of people brutally slaughtered. • 11. Activism Is Not For The Faint Of Heart Activism is not for the faint of heart. The Greensboro Sit Ins were meticulously planned and executed and those participating in the sit ins were faced with harassment, name calling, and constant threats of violence from those in opposition. The Montgomery Bus Boycott left many participants walking, hitchhiking, or cycling to work and called for the organization of alternative forms of travel such as carpools. Those in alliance with the boycott faced both acts of violence and jail time. Likewise, some participants in the Mississippi Freedom Summer Project were viciously kidnapped and murdered, while others were beaten, shot at, and arrested. During the civil rights era, activism could not be done halfheartedly, one had to immense themselves in the movement and face the backlash that came with it on the forefront. This activism is in stark contrast with today s social and political movements, because now our crusading can all be done safely online. Social media s prevalence is undeniable. From raising awareness to calling people to action, outlets like Facebook and Twitter have also become powerful tools for political and social revolutions. In the African Americancommunity, however, the effectiveness of online activism ranges from little to none. • 14. Memory And Deep Memory During her talk, Ethel Sternberg said that it made her very happy when students took her memories and stored it in the back of their heads. Her words directly relate to Charlotte Delbo s differentiation between common and deep memory and how this impacts readers of the Holocaust. Common memory refers to works that are a factual retelling and more importantly, leave the reader undisturbed by the work. On the other hand, deep memory leaves an impression and affects the reader in some capacity. One of the challenges that a Holocaust survivor faces when writing about their experiences is invoking this deep memory. Ethel Sternberg referred as storing it in the back of their heads while Delbo always repeated, Il faut donner Г voir or that they must be made to see . In order to transmit a sense of the unthinkable, such as the ambiguity of their survival and the reason for the Holocaust, writers have to make the reader feel the uncomfortable reality of this historical event. Authors such as Delbo, Appelfeld, Pagis, and Foer accomplish this by directly engaging their reader by offering no solution to the Holocaust and concluding on an ambivalent note. In this way, these writers elicit deep memory by not offering an answer to the Holocaust and forcing their readers to reconsider the ambiguous qualities of their writings. In Auschwitz and After, Delbo s Marie Louise establishes the issue of common memory and how individuals will assume that they understand the Holocaust. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The attempt of masking the true price of retrieving that fur by glamorizing coats is beyond most buyer s attention. Some people know that animals go through pain when their fur is taken for the purpose of fashion, but most people do not understand the extent of the mutilation they go through. To be sure the furis fresh and neat, certain animals are sometimes skinned alive. Fur farming is not only inhumane, but it also has a negative effect on nature. Fur farming is bad for the environment, brutal to animals and the animals are also inhumanely killed. According to psychological theory, the humanistic view claims that every person has good in them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To catch the animals, the farmers use a device called a leg hold trap. A study in Wheeler Nation Wildlife Refuge discovered that 26% of animals would actually attempt to bite of their limbs in order to escape one of these traps in the hopes of survival ( Ranch Fur Cruelties ). The fact that animals are willing to chew of their body parts in order to escape means that the leg hold trap must be painful towards the animals, which means it is an inhumane way of capturing an animal. Fur farming has been around for many years, but not always for the poor purpose of fashion. Although there are countless disadvantages with fur farming, many individuals are blinded by the glamour of the fur fashion industry to see that. One of the most crucial issues is how badly fur farming effects the environment which is almost always a victim of a human s doing. Effecting the environment has been a common issue that seems to keep resurfacing all over the world. While raw animal fur pelts may be biodegradable, the fur industry conveniently neglects to mention the fact that all of the animal skins used to make fur go through a tanning process ( Nothing Humane about Fur Farms ). The National Interagency Incident Management System ICS is an institutionalized on scene occurrence administration idea outlined particularly to permit responders to embrace a coordinated authoritative structure equivalent to the multifaceted nature and requests of any single incident or different occurrences without being upset by jurisdictional limits. In the mid 1970s, ICS was created to oversee quickly moving fierce fires and to address the accompanying issues including an excess of individuals answering to one manager, distinctive crisis reaction authoritative structures, absence of solid incident information and data, insufficient and inconsistent exchange of information, absence of structure for composed organizing among offices, indistinct lines of power and terminology contrasts among offices, and unclear or unspecified incident destinations. In 1980, government authorities transitioned ICS into a national project called the National Interagency Incident Management System (NIIMS), which turned into the premise of a reaction administration framework for every elected agency with out of control fire administration obligations (Ready.Gov, 2007). From that point forward, numerous government organizations have supported the utilization of ICS, and a few have mandated its utilization. The FAA reports that passenger numbers are expected to reach a billion passengers in 2023 (FAA, 2011). Most Airlines are responding to the increased demand by centralizing and consolidating their assets. This in turn creates a situation where capacity is maximized in some airports and congestion increases causing significant delay. Demand will continue to rise over the next few decades and these airlines must rely on regulators and policy makers to upgrade the very necessary infrastructure and technology. Southwest s strategy is to remain a point to point carrier instead of the traditional hub and spoke carrier, satisfying their customer demand with lower congestion at underutilized airports with more flights. However Southwest continues to remain flexible looking forward as it adopts hub and spoke techniques, coordinates with the FAA and governing bodies, and invests heavily in its most important airports to stay ahead of the pack. In the early seventies, SWA was begun by a couple of innovators in Teas, Rollin King and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Essay Of Prenatal Screening In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein In her novel, Frankenstein, Mary Shelley warns of the boundaries of scientific exploration. Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant scientist, attempts to play God in resurrecting a corpse and creating new life. This has disastrous effects which include the death of many characters throughout the novel. All told, the story provides a cautionary tale of the attempts to play God in regards to scientific advancement. This raises the question of how far is too far in terms of scientific exploration. With the increasing popularity of eugenics in regards to prenatal screening, one can t help but wonder, is this the dangerous idea of playing God that Shelley warned us about? During IVF, the egg is typically fertilized in a lab before being implanted into the uterus. Before transferring the embryo into the uterus, some fertility clinics offer patients the option of choosing what sex embryo they want. Although IVF is more commonly used for families struggling with infertility rather than for the sole purpose of sex selection, sex selection is still an option. This seems both futuristic and controversial but Codington Lacerte argues that prenatal sex selection methods allow parents to make informed choices about the makeup of their families (Codington Lacerte, Point: Sex Selection ). This type of eugenics is seemingly harmless because in choosing a sex for their child, parents aren t really damaging society. However, by giving parents the ability to choose whether they want a male or female child, the possibility of a skewed sex ratio greatens. In countries where sex selection is common, gender biases are already skewing the sex. According to Codington Lacerte, Americans also exhibit a son preference (Codington Lacerte, Counterpoint: Sex Selection ). By the eighteenth century, the European method of self governing independent states was established greatly in the idea of self interest. Since international connections were based on deliberation of power, the eighteenth century concept of a balance of power was grounded on how to counterbalance the power of one state by another one to stop anyone s power from controlling over the others. In Tupac Shakur s song, Dear Mama found in album, Me Against the World, for a single motherto show love for her child takes a huge struggle, especially when it was a time where gang violence was really high and fathers would leave their children. • 23. My Interest In Soccer My interest in soccer as a child began when I was knocked down by a soccer ball at the age of eleven. Ever since that day I started following my dad to watch him play soccer with his friends. He was the talk of many of his friends, because of his talent and skills behind the ball. I began to develop the interest for soccer without realizing it, some few months after, I decided to join the school soccer team. I remember working very hard every evening after school, just to prepare myself for the school teams try out. Eventually my hard work paid off. I was selected as part of the starting eleven for the first soccer game. I remember vividly, seeing my number one fan my dad, cheering me on from the sideline. My dad gave so much of his time to see my dream come true and I was so appreciative to have such a caring parent. Playing soccer was one of the best moment in my life. So, I decided to put my all in the game of soccer, practice after practice made me perfect in the field of soccer, I developed my own skills and it helped since I was working very hard on the pitch. I always had that feeling that when it came to soccer I was the best no matter what. This feeling started when I realized that no matter how hard my team mates trained, they still could not match up with me. Underage Drinking Is Part Of The Culture Of College By the time high school students are seniors around 70 percent of students have had alcohol and the number will increase more as they begin college (IUPUI). With being in college one thing that I did discover is that underage drinking is part of the culture in college, also the friends that I had in high school who are 21 now I have discovered they drink some of the least amount now. Which has begun to make me wonder why people who are 21 drink less than people who are underage. I believe that when people are 21 they now do not have to worry about the next time they can get alcohol. Congress should lower the drinking age from 21 to 18 because at age 18 when they are in college, for some students it will be the first time of it being acceptable to drink alcohol. Most college students are putting their health at risk with binge drinking. They are not introduced to alcohol at a younger age and drink because they do not know the next time they will get alcohol, so they will start to binge drink drinking a high content of alcohol quickly and dangerously. Although it may introduce alcohol to people of younger ages, it will help them mature more quickly knowing they do not have to worry about the next time they will get alcohol. With lowering the drinking age, it will have positive effects on the economy and society, it will be beneficial because it will prevent younger people from binge drinking, and people are legally adults at the age of 18 can vote and serve for their ... • 28. Mitochondria and Chloroplasts Descended from Free-living... Mitochondria (mt) provide critical function in (a) maintenance of cellular energy supplies, i.e., thermoregulation and synthesis of essential molecules (such as phospholipids and heme); (b) apoptosis or programmed cell death; and (c) mediating multiple cellular signaling pathways (Ryan and Hoogenraad 2007). It is widely accepted that mitochondria and chloroplasts descended from free living bacterial ancestors (Dyall et al. 2004). Following their acquisition by eukaryotic cells during endosymbiotic evolution, most of the genes in these organelles were either lost or transferred to the nucleus. Today, it is demonstrated that from all mitochondrial proteins (over 1500) most of them (93 99%) are encoded in the nucleus, synthesized in the cytoplasm and then imported into the organelles (Woodson and Chory 2008). For instance, human mtDNA only contains 37 genes and codes for 13 encoding polypeptides, 22 tRNAa, and 2 rRNAs (Ryan and Hoogenraad 2007). The relationship between organelles and the nucleus is continually evolving to suit an organism s needs. Based on the above mentioned close relationship, a strict communication between mitochondria, chloroplasts and the nucleus is indispensible. Hundreds of genetic diseases in humans and thousands of phenotypic variations in plants and other organisms are known to be the result of alterations affecting nuclear mitochondrial (NM) communication. These communication mechanisms include both nucleus to organelle (antrograde) and organelle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Erik Larson changed that stereotype and wrote a nonfiction book with real characters and overall facts. The Devil in the White City does not only tell an elaborating true story, but it tries to grab the reader to believe that they are actually living in 1893 during the Chicago World s Fair trials and tribulations. To tell this story, Larson combines qualities of a nonfiction book and a generic novelto successfully craft a narrative built on historical facts, therefore developing distinct persons in the cases and elaborating on what their possible feelings were. The Devil in the White City is extended biographies of Daniel Burnham and H.H. Holmes that show the hectic troubles that happened during the World s Fair in the nineteenth century. Novels tell fictional stories with fictional characters. Instead of making up a story, Larson emphasizes Burnham and Holmes true stories. In the 21st century, people live in the world of ubiquitous surveillance, where everything becomes collected, saved, searched, correlated and analyzed. Surveillance generally means to keep close watch over someone or something. While a root word in surveillance is veil, which portrays imagery as saving face, or hiding. The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) and other federal agencies are engaging in the extensive surveillance to fight crime and reduce the threat of terrorism. Not only does surveillance fight crime, it proves the honesty and humility of people in the work office or on the streets. However, surveillance threatens privacy and liberty because it monitors individuals, meaning that certain information may not be kept secret. This frightens countless people because the thought of being watched sparks a controversy of the 4th amendment of the constitution. The 4th amendment protects the right against unreasonable searches and seizures. Surveillance challenges the privacy and liberty of individuals; nevertheless, it upholds the protection and security of citizens from terrorism and crime. In Greek mythology sirens were a creature half bird and half woman who lured sailors to destruction by the sweetness of her song (Britannica). Once a man heard their beautiful song it would drive them insane, leading them into jumping overboard. John William Waterhouse, in his panting Ulysses and the Sirens, he shows you how the sirens were believed to truly look to the Greeks and how the hideous creatures would come swooping down and go after the men. The poem Siren Song by Margaret Atwood shows how the sirens would use their cunning ability to trick the men into coming with them. In 1949, she wrote what is perhaps her most noteworthy text, The Second Sex . In the novel, Beauvoir explores the notion of femininity and the history of the relationship between men and women, and makes the ambitious claim that One is not born, but rather becomes, Woman. (283) This bold statement has sparked the interest of many feminist activists and scholars, but for one to truly understand Beauvoir s work, one must ask, what does it mean? Although this statement is ostensibly simple, it holds great meaning and depth. Essentially, it signifies that women are taught to be women, by their mothers and by society, and are not simply born being society s definition of a woman. She exemplifies this on multiple occasions in her novel. In one instance, she writes, It is here that little girls first appear privileged. A second weaning, slower and less brutal than the first one, withdraws the mother s body from the child s embraces; but little by little boys are the ones who are denied kisses and caresses; the little girlcontinues to be doted upon... (285) Here Beauvoir shows that even from birth, the stereotype that girls are more delicate and fragile than boys is perpetuated by parents treating girls with more affection and delicacy. The Representation of Minorities in American Cinema Essay The Representation of Minorities in American Cinema As the semester progressed and we continued learning how Latinos have been misrepresented through American cinema during the twentieth century, I began to wonder about my own heritage and how Jews were portrayed in films of the same era. I grew up learning about the various stereotypes that have been associated with Jews throughout history, but never have I explored the portrayals of Jews through film history in the United States. My curiosity led me to research Hollywood s image of the Jew, providing me with a better understanding of the role Jews and Jewish family life have played in American Cinema from the very beginnings of film history. In the same way that American cinema placed Latinos and Latinas in certain roles in film, it also made specific characters for the Jewish actors. As Ramirez Berg states, it is difficult to find examples of Hispanic characters in mainstream Hollywood cinema who are complex and self determining (Ramirez Berg, 104). Hispanic male characters were limited to such roles as the evil greaser , the villainous bandit , or the suave Latin lover in the films made in the early nineteen hundreds. The Latin Lover character and other Latino character types present the Latino men as weak, unintelligent, and villainous, in contrast to the strong Anglo heroes. The range of roles played by Hispanic female characters in early American cinema was even more constricted than that of the males. The limited character types are mainly a result of their primary function as the Anglo love interest. Film Chicanas, Mexicanas, and other Latinas, then, served mainly as passive sexual goals to be sought by active Anglo heroes and as living proof of Anglo superiority over Latino men (Cortes, 128). The role most often filled by Latina actresses was that of a cantina girl, basically a dancing, singing, sex object. The common belief at the time was that After all, they were Latinas. Their strengths, if they had any, were decidedly female. They had reached the limit of the era s Latina ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare Charlotte Perkins Gilman s Turned with Thomas Hardy s A Withered Arm The short stories Turned by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and The Withered Arm by Thomas Hardy both have very different techniques and plots with which they aim to appeal to their audience. The opening of The Withered Arm immediately involves the reader. Adjectives are used to describe the initial setting, and so the image of the eighty cow dairy, and the troop of milkers, regular and supernumerary becomes clear. He depicts firstly the dairy workers gossiping about the new wife , using dialect expressions such as rosy cheeked and tisty tosty little body . Later there is an introduction of the thin fading Rhoda Brooks, and so the author also creates interest in the origin of their differing lifestyles. Both Turned and The Withered Arm juxtapose two lifestyles, one that is superior to the other. Rhoda and her son are set in The Withered Arm as lying apart from the others , inhabiting a cottage with mud walls and a thatch that has a rafter showing like a bone protruding through the skin . When the reader hears of the handsome new gig returning from town as though after successful dealings , with a thriving farmer and a woman with soft and evanescent features , the apparent poverty and isolation of Rhoda and her son is in stark contrast. The implied wealth of Farmer Lodge and his new wife is highlighted by the previous suggestion of Rhoda s lack of money. Although within the same house, Gerta and Mrs Marroner clearly hold different positions. As the author describes Mrs Marroner, she includes details such as her reserved, superior, Boston bred life and trips to York Beach , and this emphasised that she is the mistress of the meek , docile and ignorant Gerta. There are further examples of Mrs Marroner s luxurious belongings presented to demonstrate the lavish lifestyle that she has enjoyed, such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Analysis Of Terence Hanbury White s The Once And Future King Arthurian legend, with its round table, wizard, unfaithful queen, gallant knight, vengeful son, and well intentioned king, has long been retold. While most authors employed the legend as a tapestry to depict religious themes, The Once and Future King uniquely utilizes the tale to provide a political critique of the author s modern day society. Terence Hanbury White embraced Malory s version by creating four sequential books eventually published together under the title The Once and Future King. Shifting away from the heavily Christian oriented tale, White uses the story of King Arthuras platform to express his opinions on his own world during the mid 1900 s. Focusing on the increasingly divided, violent attitudes of his generation, White imposes an alternative vision of the utility of war. As he converges on and diverges from pacifistic sentiment, White s first book, The Sword and the Stone and fourth book, The Candle in the Wind illustrate political critique of both old and new society. The golden lines of The Sword in the Stone and The Candle in the Wind earn their status from the way they encapsulate the predominant pacifistic theme through symbolism. When young Arthur lives among geese, he notices sentries keeping watch, and confused of their purpose, he asks a goose by the name of Lyo Lyok if they are preparing for war amongst their flock. The disgusted goose responds, But what creature could be so low as to go about in bands, to murder others of its own blood? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Analysis Of A Flower Garden By Li Bai This poem creates a scene in which the poet, Li Bai is sitting alone under the moonlight as he sips on his drink and can share his loneliness with no one but the moon and his shadow. By pointing out that he is at a flower garden with moonlight shined upon him and a pot of wine by his side, the setting of the poem is rather pleasant and relaxing. The poet, however, appears to be frustrated because he has no real friends who are there for him. With a quick thought, LiBai decides to think the moonand his shadow as his companion and meanwhile starts to sing and dance with them. The fact that neither the moon nor his shadow is animated does not bother Li Bai as he slowly gets more involved in the atmosphere he created for himself, or, in his words, it makes us [them] three . From there on, the poet does not care about what other people think of him anymore and instead starts to live his life the way that will not leave behind any regrets. In order to achieve such impression and create an image for the readers, Li Bai incorporates myriad rhetorical devices in the writing of the poem. Out of all techniques being used, imagery is one that appears throughout the poem. The poem opens up with an image of a flower garden a which indicates the poet s location and sets the tone for the slight twist in emotion in next couple of lines of the poem. The poet s mentioning of his loneliness sharply contrasts the setting in which both wine and flowers are supposed to bring a sense of prosperity and happiness. Moving on, the fourth and fifth lines express Li Bai s loneliness by creating an image of the faraway moon and his shadow. The line states that the moon is too far away to enjoy the wine with Li Bai, and his shadow cannot communicate with or truly comprehend the poet. Li Bai s use of the phrase creeps about my heels to describe the behavior of his shadow is interesting thoughtful, showing that even though the shadow is very close to him in distance, Li Bai feels as if all the shadow does is blindly following him. Considering Li Bai s experience of rejecting the government official s position in Chang an the capital of China because of his unwillingness to sacrifice his entire life for the Royals monetary ... • 49. Analysis Of Bloom s Original Cognitive Process A group of educators collaborated to develop classifications of learning objectives for the purpose of creating lessons and the evaluations to accompany them. They constructed objectives to reveal what students would be able to perform according to the education and organized them in relation to their level of difficulty. The outcome is extensively recognized as Bloom s taxonomy. However, there are adaptations that have drawn from Bloom and his colleagues efforts such as those from Anderson, one of Bloom s former students, as well as Stiggins (O Donnell, Reeve Smith, 2012). In Bloom s original cognitive process there are six thinking skills and abilities that comprise of knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, evaluation, and synthesis. In Bloom s revised taxonomy, modifications were made to the original version to deal with the drawbacks found in the previous version. The improved framework now distinguishes from knowing what and knowing how or the matter of thinking and the process utilized in problem solving (Anderson Krathwohl, 2001). Anderson and his associates assert meaningful learning presents students with the knowledge and cognitive means required for solving problems (Anderson Krathwohl, 2001). The revised version adapted by Anderson and Krathwohl consists of remembering, understanding, applying, analysis, evaluation, and creating (O Donnell, Reeve Smith, 2012). • 50. Energy Systems In Football The fitness components mentioned previously use different energy systems throughout the game. Energy whilst playing football can be derived from two metabolic processes: aerobic and anaerobic. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is necessary for all muscle contraction however this store will only last for a limited period of time, as such other systems must be used during football to compensate for this. Footballers use these energysystems in varying degrees relative to their position. Bloomfield, et al calculated that a footballer s energy expenditure can be determined by the purposeful movement (PM) of the player; relative to the position this PM may be a series of movements. A table detailing the Bloomfield Movement Classification can be seen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These sprints are fuelled by the ATP PC system and the anaerobic glycolysis system which use up the creatine phosphate (CP). It allows for up to approximately В±12 seconds of maximum effort ring these sprints the supply of ATP is quickly used up, as such CP donates phosphate for the synthesis of ATP through the creatine kinase reaction (Bangsbo 1994). Footballers will also use glycogen in the form of carbohydrates when the intensity is high an is prolonged. Glycogen is stored in the muscle and is broken down anaerobically, however this is a finite store also and Bangsbo (2007) found that the muscle glycogen store is depleted by half time. Energy expenditure also depends on the formation and tactical strategies, depending on whether the team are playing a defensive or attacking style. Serie A teams, for example, are notoriously defensive minded and perform more short passes during the match than the opposing team of lesser calibre, according to Rampinini et al. Hence, a better team will have more possession and thus will perform more less intensity running than the opposing team. Rampinini et al also showed that the number of short passes decreased in the second half with respect to the first, which is probably due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reasoning for Keeping Physical Education in the Curriculum Dear Mr Vaughan I am writing in accordance to the letter you sent out about abolishing Physical Education from your school s curriculum. I wish to express my reasoning and justifications for Physical Education to be included. My main issue is with your statement that PE should be abolished because it has little educational significance. I could not disagree more, it has more significance, as it doesn t go in pursuit of knowledge per say, it aims to achieve: An improvement in perceptual knowledge of everyday surroundings, this helps to give students a greater ability to respond to situations in appropriate way; It also helps the students to focus, if they are in a game situation, they will focus on what they re doing in order to respond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They will learn how to compete with themselves and others. This, alongside a degree of self improvement can be powerful life skills that could prove very useful in their future careers. Other skills that PE can offer an assistance with are: team building and leadership skills that will also provoke the awareness of the people around you and make the students alert to how the peers around them work and give them guidance and support on how to improve or overcome some problems or obstacles they may encounter, be this within PE, other lessons, and everyday life. I feel strongly about the inclusion of PE as it can completely change the attitudes of students for a more positive point of view on many subjects. It has many more positive implications on students than it does negatives, your students will have a break from the typical classroom environment and get a break from just sitting in class and having to swallow a large intake of information which, can be difficult for some students. Learning becomes practical and more student oriented which can involve those students who learn in: kinaesthetic, auditory, and visual ways. The students who find sitting and having to read and make notes difficult have ample opportunity to excel in Physical Education, as they have a chance to learn in their preferred way and gain self esteem and confidence to try more ...
