Acute Care Hospital Strategic Plan
Kilroy’s Acute Care Hospital Strategic Plan was created for my class “Strategic Planning for Healthcare Organizations”. I was put into a team with several individuals and tasked with creating a fictional strategic plan that included an environmental assessment, critical strategic issues and response strategies, measurement objectives, barriers/constraints, and a description of our suggestions of how to move foreword in the future and meet our goals, among other objectives important to our hospital.
My role in this project was working on critical strategic issues and response strategies. I was tasked with deciding what my group’s fictional hospital needed to address moving into the future and what the short-term and long-term objectives were to respond to these issues. The skills I used in creating and responding to these objectives are problem-solving and decision-making skills, analytical skills, and persuasion. One result I want to highlight was that I helped create sound financial data that demonstrated the impact the addition of a stabilization unit would have on the rest of the strategic plan.
This project was not only fun to create and research; it helped me understand the importance of strategic planning and analyzing the core issues of an organization in order to better prepare for the future.

The Mexico City Principles
The interaction between healthcare professionals and the pharmaceutical industry has been under close scrutiny lately both locally and internationally and has become vulnerable to numerous sources of conflicts of interest and unethical behavior. These conflicts may be subtle and difficult to identify but may create a strain in the relationship and subject either party to unjust and unethical demands. Though some actions may be done in good faith, such demands may cast doubt on the integrity of the medical profession especially if the primary interest of the patients is compromised. In some instances, even traditional or cultural practices considered appropriate before, may now be perceived globally as inappropriate and unethical.
Therefore, in order to protect the integrity of the medical profession, ethical interactions between healthcare professionals and other stakeholders must be ensured at all times so that medical decisions are made in the best interest of patients. The Mexico City Principles (MCP), was an initiative of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) endorsed by the APEC Ministers during their Ministerial Meeting in Hawaii in 2011. This is a Code of Ethics that defines how companies in the biopharmaceutical sector shall market, distribute, promote and advertise their products. These companies must adhere to the highest standards of ethical practice and ensure that all interactions with the healthcare professionals are governed by their mutual desire to address solely the patients’ medical needs.
The Code is governed by six underlying principles, namely:
a) Healthcare and Patient Focus- means everything we do is intended to benefit patients;
b) Integrity- means dealing ethically, honestly and respectfully in everything we do;
c) Independence- means to respect the need of autonomous decision-making of all parties, free from improper influence;
d) Legitimate Intent means everything we do is for the right reasons, is lawful and aligns with the spirit and the values of these Principles;
e) Transparency – means a general willingness to be open about our actions while respecting legitimate commercial sensitivities and intellectual property rights; and
f) Accountability – means a willingness to be responsible for our actions and interactions.
Guidelines for ethical_interactions

The Mexico City Principles
The interaction between healthcare professionals and the pharmaceutical industry has been under close scrutiny lately both locally and internationally and has become vulnerable to numerous sources of conflicts of interest and unethical behavior. These conflicts may be subtle and difficult to identify but may create a strain in the relationship and subject either party to unjust and unethical demands. Though some actions may be done in good faith, such demands may cast doubt on the integrity of the medical profession especially if the primary interest of the patients is compromised. In some instances, even traditional or cultural practices considered appropriate before, may now be perceived globally as inappropriate and unethical.
Therefore, in order to protect the integrity of the medical profession, ethical interactions between healthcare professionals and other stakeholders must be ensured at all times so that medical decisions are made in the best interest of patients. The Mexico City Principles (MCP), was an initiative of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) endorsed by the APEC Ministers during their Ministerial Meeting in Hawaii in 2011. This is a Code of Ethics that defines how companies in the biopharmaceutical sector shall market, distribute, promote and advertise their products. These companies must adhere to the highest standards of ethical practice and ensure that all interactions with the healthcare professionals are governed by their mutual desire to address solely the patients’ medical needs.
The Code is governed by six underlying principles, namely:
a) Healthcare and Patient Focus- means everything we do is intended to benefit patients;
b) Integrity- means dealing ethically, honestly and respectfully in everything we do;
c) Independence- means to respect the need of autonomous decision-making of all parties, free from improper influence;
d) Legitimate Intent means everything we do is for the right reasons, is lawful and aligns with the spirit and the values of these Principles;
e) Transparency – means a general willingness to be open about our actions while respecting legitimate commercial sensitivities and intellectual property rights; and
f) Accountability – means a willingness to be responsible for our actions and interactions.
Guidelines for ethical_interactions

Introduction
A healthcare system should be well organized and should consist of trained personnel who mainly work with a company or an organization. Physicians, nurses, doctors, pharmacists are some of the examples of health care providers. This is a system that provides professional services to patients that are in high need of treatment as inpatients who are treated generally as outpatients. I decided to select physicians as health care providers and also as medical practitioners since they are always in demand in the medical field, day after another. This is a professional medical practitioner or by simple terms, a doctor who has completed highly advanced training in providing a range of mostly non-surgical health care to patients. A physician should have adverse knowledge in a medical specialty. The main concern is to maintain, restore, and promote health via the study, treatment, and diagnosis of a disease of patients to ensure their wellbeing.
Direct Impact of a Physician
Most companies direct the efforts of their marketing towards physicians to the consumers who are their patients; the shots are put in the physicians through the sale of drugs and also by advertising in most of the medical journals. Most of the largest chunk is put in place towards the detailing of marketing expenditure through advertisement. There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
