Metzer was established in 1970 as a small kibbutz workshop and
has since blossomed into a global company which develops,
plans, and produces advanced agricultural technologies. Our
company’s goal is to improve technology in agriculture, and for
this purpose, we invest, both professionally and financially, in
order to provide high-quality products and solutions best suited
to our customers.
Metzer's main advantage is that the company was founded
by farmers who sought solutions to real problems. In other
words, being farmers, we have been able to develop products
based on needs and challenges in the field. Today, 38 years
after our company’s establishment, our experience, products
and technologies, have taken Metzer to the forefront of global
agricultural technology.
The strength of our company lies not in its size, but in its wisdom,
speed of response, and adaptation of our products to our
client’s needs and challenges. Metzer products are designed
to help farmers cope with problems like poor water quality,
water shortages and high salinity. The mechanization of the
systems provides efficient solutions and ensures our customers
save on energy and manpower. Furthermore, we have invested
considerable resources in research for new product development.
We invite farmers to grow with us by using our products!
Over the years, Metzer has transitioned from just selling products
to selling solutions. We offer smart, technologically advanced
products that enable our customers to face the challenges present
in the highly competitive global food market.
Our customers, then, are not just customers; they are our true
partners. We literally see ourselves accompanying them on their
way to growth.. We make sure that we deliver our products to
our customers, train them about usage and help factories that
buy our products to produce their own products more quickly
and efficiently. Our company prioritizes our customers’ interests,
and provides added value to the customer by creating a deep
technological partnership over time.
Over the last years, Metzer has grown tremendously. Our company
has built and continues to build subsidiaries around the world.
Metzer supplies the technology to its subsidiaries, while most of
the products themselves are produced in the target countries. This
allows us to reduce costs and to tailor our products to the unique
needs of the market. Establishing each of these subsidiaries
requires unique and challenging management resources, but
creates rapid and focused growth for the company, a strategy
which we will continue to implement in the coming years.
We thank you for choosing us and we will continue to offer you
creative and innovative solutions to real problems.
Yours,
Hugo Chaufan

Chairman's Message

Our customers are not just customers; they are our true partners.
We literally see ourselves accompanying them on their way to growth
The days of the Agritech Exhibition in Tel Aviv are days of
celebration for the Israeli agriculture sector and for irrigation
companies. Metzer Group is pleased to host its customers and
guests from all over the world and to proudly present new
products and developments that we have been working on for the
last three years.
Since the last exhibition in 2015, Metzer has strengthened and
increased its activities in the world. We have established five new
partnerships with companies from various countries around the
world: Yuanda in China, Tractores del Norte Group in Mexico, Sagiv
Mashabei Sadeh in Russia, Skipper in India and Olivos in Peru, and
have doubled the company's production capacity with the entry
into operations of the factories in Ukraine, China and Mexico. In
addition, we have strengthened our technological cooperation
with Caudal in Spain, Nagarjuna in India, Geoflow Toprak in
Turkey, our production partners in the US, and Agriplas in South
Africa, and with many other factories around the world.
The drip irrigation industry, in which we are privileged to take part
from our beginning in the seventies, has evolved in the past 50
years from a niche activity, into a significant one, performing today
as a foundation and hope for our world, which desperately needs
efficient and sustainable food production based on advanced
technologies.
Among players in the irrigation market, Metzer has been
characterized over the years as a quality company, focusing on the
advanced drippers' market.
Our numerous collaboration ventures with technological partners
around the world and our many marketing points close to the
end-customers, enable us to invest a great deal of resources in
product development, in order to continue to be the technological
spearhead in the field of drip irrigation.
In the three years since the last exhibition, we have invested
considerable resources in building the group's marketing tools,
and we are proud to present these tools on the company's new
website and in exhibitions around the world.
Many good people have been partners in the long journey
which we have done for nearly 50 years. Every one of them have
contributed and still contribute, each in its own field and way, to
the development of Metzer group. Whether in the daily effort in the
production halls, or in development, marketing and management
tasks, or as partners and loyal customers who have accompanied
and supported us over the years. All of them deserve endless
thanks, and each one deserves personal recognition, but space
limitation prevents me for doing so.
I choose to mention only one who couldn't see his vision
materializing in these three years: Amnon Halperin, the company's
CFO, a partner and a friend, who died surprisingly three years ago,
on May 8, while in the middle of the momentum of activity and
development. We wish he could have witnessed the realization of
the business plans he had worked on, and the development of the
company he had served with endless loyalty.
The future holds good opportunities to farmers and to agriculture
as a whole. The more the politicians will be busy building rather
than destroying the agro-industries, and the agricultural and
water industries will know how to create solutions and overcome
the hardships and lack of resources, we will be able to develop
efficient and sustainable methods for producing the required
food, while preserving the environment.
We wish you all to continue your learning and success, and have
the pleasure of reading this booklet.
Yours sincerely,
Shmuel Schupak

Irrimetzer is a software and an application that
provides simplified and easy-to-use means for
computing the necessary calculations for planning
irrigation systems. The Irrimetzer software contains
calculators of maximum lateral length, flow rate

Innovation in Frost Protection
Systems
Metzer is innovating methods to protect crops from
harmful radiative and advective frost. Cold weather
hurts plants, temporarily or permanently. Existing
technologies aid plants against frost in several ways.
The system is built at an effective height above crops
or trees, and is tailored to the irrigation flow. Metzer’s
sturdy 25mm pipe is elevated above crop or tree level.
It is widely spread, placed at every second tree, and
the hose is attached to the tree trunk by a flexible wire
to prevent damage to the tree - easy to install and
remove for maintenance.

Metzer Goes “Local Global”
The increase in international clientele and the need to
have local presence motivated Metzer to open subsidiary
companies around the world
Over the years, Metzer’s products attracted clients from all around
the world. At the beginning, supply and support were provided
from Israel, but with the increase in international clients and the
need to establish local presence, Metzer started to open subsidiary
companies all around the world.
Each of Metzer’s subsidiary companies was built along with a local
partner familiar with the local market, while Metzer adds to the
partnership its know-how, technology and the ability to develop
products and projects. The subsidiary employs local workers and
has its own local marketing network, allowing Metzer to better
understand and customize its products to the markets through
better knowledge of local culture and language. The subsidiaries
use Metzer’s known brand and high-quality machinery and products
and thus enable Metzer to offer tailored products and services, with
better response times, faster manufacturing product supply, and
better availability and service to its clients.
So far, Metzer has built subsidiaries in Australia, Argentina, China,
Ukraine, India and more. It has recently opened plants in Mexico and
will soon open a plant in Peru. These companies manufacture and
sell Metzer products to other countries as well, such as Thailand,
Ecuador, Chile, Russia, Italy and Ethiopia. We continue to spread
around the globe with more subsidiary companies, and serve our
clients better.

Metzer subsidiary in China was established in partnership with
Yunada, a huge Chinese company that deals mostly with elevators and
construction of buildings. In 2016, Yunada made a decision to enter
the water sector, set up a plant and integrated Metzer as a partner,
with 30% stake in the company. The factory is located in north China
and employs 25 workers. At this stage, the factory produces advanced
technology products for the Chinese market. Later, the plant will export
its products to neighboring countries as well.
Metzer Australia
Founded in 2004, Metzer Australia distributes the company’s products to
the local market.
Local Production Partners
In cases where equity partnership is not feasible, Metzer offers entering a License
and Technology Transfer Agreement.
In this way, the local production partner gets access to Metzer range of technology
and products, including the new developments, and decides what to purchase
according to the specific market requirements and opportunities.
This "invest-as-you-grow" scheme, combined with access to Metzer continuous R&D
as well as production and agronomic backup, allows the local partner to devote its
full resources to tailored marketing, enjoying a considerable competitive advantage.
Licensed local production agreements have proven themselves in numerous
countries and conditions, with benefits to both parties.

“We Seek Out what is New and Different“
While listening to feedback from its clients, Metzer uses its knowledge,
insights and creativity, in order to provide new, high-quality products,
among them ROOTGUARD® and Anti-Bacterial Technologies. An Interview
with Dov Avital, Business Innovation Manager at Metzer
Why has Metzer chosen to focus on innovation?
Dov: “It is important for Metzer to preserve the connection
between our kibbutz community and factory, and to retain our
culture of information-sharing. As such, growing in size to compete
with large multinational companies, or lowering our prices to
compete with companies based on cheaper labor countries, were
options that did not match our vision for Metzer. In addition,
for both Metzer and agriculture itself to progress, it is important
to look forward. We don’t need ‘more of the same’. With these
considerations in mind, we decided that the approach best suited
to our factory was a focus on innovative solutions”.
How do you go about developing new products? What do you
look for?
“Our primary focus is the farmers”, Dov continues. “The
farmers take more risks and are often less rewarded than
any other link in the agricultural production chain. Our
aim is to help the farmers grow crops, yield more for their
work, reduce costs, and increase profits. When developing
products, we listen to feedback from our clients, look to
where we can make a difference, try to predict future business
opportunities, and seek out what is new and different. Then,
using our knowledge, insight and creativity, and taking into
consideration differing world markets, we improve our existing
products and develop new, high-quality products”.
ROOTGUARD® and anti-bacterial technologies
ROOTGUARD® and anti-bacterial technologies solve the problem
of drippers' blockages either by root intrusion or by bacterial film
growth when using recycled water. This innovative solution came,
again, from problems from the fields.
Metzer is at the forefront of using sub-surface irrigation and
anti-bacterial technologies. What issues were you looking to
fix with these products?
“Metzer’s subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) has many agronomic
advantages, including water and fertilizer conservation, and
savings in operating costs. Another benefit of SDI is that it allows
us to use wastewater and effluent water by eliminating smells or
contact between these waters, which contain a high concentration
of bacteria, and the people and the plants themselves.
“There were two issues with SDI. The first was root intrusion.
Roots were entering the dripper holes and blocking them. Also,
where water with a high concentration of bacteria and organic
matter was used - such as wastewater or polluted river water - the
bacteria and organic matter were colonizing the drippers and
blocking them as well. The second issue was that there was no way
of tracking the state of the SDI hoses, which worried our farmers”.
How are Metzer’s ROOTGUARD® and anti-bacterial
technologies fixing issues with SDI?
Dov Avital,
Business Innovation
Manager at Metzer
Metzer’s Innovation
13metzer-group.com
“ROOTGUARD® delivers an herbicide embedded inside the plastic hose. Our
wastewater driplines are equipped with an inner layer of anti-bacterial technology
which does not attack bacteria but just stops them from developing biofilm and
blocking the dripper. Finally, we have partnered with other companies to provide
our farmers with real-time monitoring of our SDI and provide an assurance about
the condition of their hoses.
“Until recently, ROOTGUARD® was relatively expensive and used only in longer-
term crops. In cooperation with Geoflow Inc., we have lined our hoses with a
ROOTGUARD® band, instead of placing it in the drippers themselves – a solution
that insured better value for money”.
How does Metzer’s approach to these issues differ from other companies?
“While general recommendations often destroy bacteria with chlorine, Metzer’s
approach is to have our drip irrigation technology work with nature, not against it.
We do not want to kill the bacteria because it helps turn water generally discarded
into organic matter available as nutrient to the plants, while remaining safe for
humans and beneficial to farms.
“Another unique approach is our use of wastewater and effluent water. Most of
the water used in homes, factories, barns, and more, goes to waste when it is
actually an excellent resource - when delivered correctly - of nutritious organic
matter that improves the quality of the soil, conserves water and lowers costs.
This is especially important in areas lacking in natural water, including Kibbutz
Metzer itself. There is limited awareness around the world about using bacteria as
a mechanism for water utilization, regulation, and technology”.
How has the market response been to Metzer’s ROOTGUARD® and anti-
bacterial technologies?
“Elation. Demand is continuously growing for these products”.
What is the vision for innovation at Metzer in the upcoming years?
“Metzer is an environmentally-conscious company. Our next aim is developing
plastic that will degrade in the ground when it completes its job. Metzer is an
innovative and creative company that is attentive to its growers, and which
develops products and technologies accordingly. We are happily dealing with and
discovering problems not yet solved and are finding solutions to these problems
using creativity and teamwork”, Dov summarize.

Tailor-made solutions to fit customers' needs
Metzer's Projects Department focuses on small and medium-sized projects offering various
options for establishing projects. Metzer’s presence around the world enables it to better integrate
manpower in its projects, while supervising every aspect and deal with each issue
The world agricultural market is undergoing a process of centralization. In the past,
companies engaged in different sectors of agriculture, such as trade, product-
processing, etc. Today, more and more international companies that need
agricultural products, are developing large-scale projects in different countries.
These companies concluded that in order to improve their profitability and logistics,
they should also be part of the growing process and thus offer a whole supply
chain - from growing to marketing the final product. This phenomenon is leading
to a global momentum in the construction of agricultural projects, with customers
interested in working with companies that are able to give the total package.
A few years ago, Metzer decided to take part in this global trend and set up the
company's Projects Department. Initially, the department established a few
projects, and in recent months it has become a separate business unit, operating
independently on behalf of Metzer.
Metzer's project department offers, in fact, an overall package for building a project
- from project characterization, planning, execution, supervision: escorting every
stage of the project until it reaches a successful state of operation, to the satisfaction
of the customer. The options are varied and the projects offered by Metzer are tailor-
made solutions to fit customers' needs.
Ongoing Dialog with Customers
Once work in Metzer’s Project Department is initiated, the department's team
approaches clients either through the subsidiaries of Metzer or through Israeli
companies that develop projects abroad. As soon as they locate a business
opportunity, characterizing the customer's needs begins: the profile of the area,
agronomic situation, climatic conditions and the crops themselves. The customers’
requirements and knowledge are also considered and the process includes an
ongoing dialog with customers, in order to offer them the best solutions. There are
projects that include setting up an entire logistics chain and others that deal with a
particular niche. Metzer's project department is flexible and attentive.
What characterizes the work of the Projects’ Department is that a project is not
over even after the client confirms that he has received the application and the
installation according to his requirements. The real test of each project is its ongoing
functioning. At this point, post-sales begin, in which the department checks whether
everything is done according to plans - whether to add or remove something, etc.
Focus on Small and Medium-sized Projects
The market for irrigation projects is very competitive, and therefore, Metzer’s
Project Department decided to focus on small and medium-sized projects, in which
personal, close and focused service can be provided. The service is customer-
focused and enjoys the advantages of Metzer's flexibility and the importance that
the company gives to its clients’ needs. In order to create projects from start to
finish, Metzer's projects department works closely with various companies, including
those involved in automation, computing, valves, water filtration, pumps, electric
companies and more. These collaborations enable the department to provide its
customers with varied and comprehensive solutions, with the overall responsibility
provided by Metzer.
Metzer’s Projects Department
15metzer-group.com
At the same time, Metzer also able to provide its customers with financing
solutions for the projects. Since more and more customers are dealing with the
issue of financing in large volumes, Metzer is able to offer its client a package
of financing solutions, in cooperation with financial companies, thus enabling
customers address the issue of working capital until such time as the project
yields revenues.
Local Presence in Each Country
Metzer has subsidiaries in various countries around the world. Since every
region in the world has a different agricultural culture, history of crops, climate
conditions, water qualities and more, one of Metzer's Project Department’s
advantages is the ability to use local workers for each project. These workers are
in the field: they inspectand examine the work and are able to offer solutions for
every problem. This gives customers the confidence to know whom to turn to in
case of any difficulty.
Metzer's Projects Department includes professional planners and hydraulics
specialists, who know and control the fields of water and pumping, electric panels,
hydraulic planning, control and computing. When necessary, the department is
assisted by external consultants who have been working with it for many years.
Over the years, Metzer’s Projects Department has established various projects over
thousands of hectares in African countries, in the former Soviet Union, in South
America and in China, leading their owners to success and prosperity.

  • 1. Moving forward, making a difference Innovation: ROOTGUARD® and Anti-Bacterial Technologies Around the World: Metzer Goes “Local-Global” Metzer Engineering: Your Technology Partner Delivering Smart Irrigation Solutions
  • 2. Metzer was established in 1970 as a small kibbutz workshop and has since blossomed into a global company which develops, plans, and produces advanced agricultural technologies. Our company’s goal is to improve technology in agriculture, and for this purpose, we invest, both professionally and financially, in order to provide high-quality products and solutions best suited to our customers. Metzer's main advantage is that the company was founded by farmers who sought solutions to real problems. In other words, being farmers, we have been able to develop products based on needs and challenges in the field. Today, 38 years after our company’s establishment, our experience, products and technologies, have taken Metzer to the forefront of global agricultural technology. The strength of our company lies not in its size, but in its wisdom, speed of response, and adaptation of our products to our client’s needs and challenges. Metzer products are designed to help farmers cope with problems like poor water quality, water shortages and high salinity. The mechanization of the systems provides efficient solutions and ensures our customers save on energy and manpower. Furthermore, we have invested considerable resources in research for new product development. We invite farmers to grow with us by using our products! Over the years, Metzer has transitioned from just selling products to selling solutions. We offer smart, technologically advanced products that enable our customers to face the challenges present in the highly competitive global food market. Our customers, then, are not just customers; they are our true partners. We literally see ourselves accompanying them on their way to growth.. We make sure that we deliver our products to our customers, train them about usage and help factories that buy our products to produce their own products more quickly and efficiently. Our company prioritizes our customers’ interests, and provides added value to the customer by creating a deep technological partnership over time. Over the last years, Metzer has grown tremendously. Our company has built and continues to build subsidiaries around the world. Metzer supplies the technology to its subsidiaries, while most of the products themselves are produced in the target countries. This allows us to reduce costs and to tailor our products to the unique needs of the market. Establishing each of these subsidiaries requires unique and challenging management resources, but creates rapid and focused growth for the company, a strategy which we will continue to implement in the coming years. We thank you for choosing us and we will continue to offer you creative and innovative solutions to real problems. Yours, Hugo Chaufan Metzer Chairman H_chaufan@hotmail.com Dear readers, The strength of our company lies not in its size, but in its wisdom, speed of response, and adaptation of our products to our client’s needs and challenges Chairman's Message
  • 3. 3metzer-group.com Our customers are not just customers; they are our true partners. We literally see ourselves accompanying them on their way to growth
  • 4. The days of the Agritech Exhibition in Tel Aviv are days of celebration for the Israeli agriculture sector and for irrigation companies. Metzer Group is pleased to host its customers and guests from all over the world and to proudly present new products and developments that we have been working on for the last three years. Since the last exhibition in 2015, Metzer has strengthened and increased its activities in the world. We have established five new partnerships with companies from various countries around the world: Yuanda in China, Tractores del Norte Group in Mexico, Sagiv Mashabei Sadeh in Russia, Skipper in India and Olivos in Peru, and have doubled the company's production capacity with the entry into operations of the factories in Ukraine, China and Mexico. In addition, we have strengthened our technological cooperation with Caudal in Spain, Nagarjuna in India, Geoflow Toprak in Turkey, our production partners in the US, and Agriplas in South Africa, and with many other factories around the world. The drip irrigation industry, in which we are privileged to take part from our beginning in the seventies, has evolved in the past 50 years from a niche activity, into a significant one, performing today as a foundation and hope for our world, which desperately needs efficient and sustainable food production based on advanced technologies. Among players in the irrigation market, Metzer has been characterized over the years as a quality company, focusing on the advanced drippers' market. Our numerous collaboration ventures with technological partners around the world and our many marketing points close to the end-customers, enable us to invest a great deal of resources in product development, in order to continue to be the technological spearhead in the field of drip irrigation. In the three years since the last exhibition, we have invested considerable resources in building the group's marketing tools, and we are proud to present these tools on the company's new website and in exhibitions around the world.  Many good people have been partners in the long journey which we have done for nearly 50 years. Every one of them have contributed and still contribute, each in its own field and way, to the development of Metzer group. Whether in the daily effort in the production halls, or in development, marketing and management tasks, or as partners and loyal customers who have accompanied and supported us over the years. All of them deserve endless thanks, and each one deserves personal recognition, but space limitation prevents me for doing so. I choose to mention only one who couldn't see his vision materializing in these three years: Amnon Halperin, the company's CFO, a partner and a friend, who died surprisingly three years ago, on May 8, while in the middle of the momentum of activity and development. We wish he could have witnessed the realization of the business plans he had worked on, and the development of the company he had served with endless loyalty.  The future holds good opportunities to farmers and to agriculture as a whole. The more the politicians will be busy building rather than destroying the agro-industries, and the agricultural and water industries will know how to create solutions and overcome the hardships and lack of resources, we will be able to develop efficient and sustainable methods for producing the required food, while preserving the environment. We wish you all to continue your learning and success, and have the pleasure of reading this booklet. Yours sincerely, Shmuel Schupak CEO at Metzer Shmuel@metzerplas.com Dear Friends, Message from the CEO

  • 6. Metzer India and Skipper formed a joint venture Metzer India and Skipper Ltd – a plastic pipes manufacturer - formed a 50-50 joint venture to provide drip irrigation products to India and other South East Asian countries - Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The production facility of Skipper- Metzer India LLP will be set up near Skipper’s Hyderabad-based factory. Metzer will provide all the production lines that will be used in this plant to manufacture dripline laterals. Irrimetzer : Now Available Online and for Mobile Download! Irrimetzer is a software and an application that provides simplified and easy-to-use means for computing the necessary calculations for planning irrigation systems. The Irrimetzer software contains calculators of maximum lateral length, flow rate and head loss along driplines, main pipes and sub mains. Find Irrimetzer at http://irrimetzer.metzer- group.com/home or on Google Play and App Store. Innovation in Frost Protection Systems Metzer is innovating methods to protect crops from harmful radiative and advective frost. Cold weather hurts plants, temporarily or permanently. Existing technologies aid plants against frost in several ways. The system is built at an effective height above crops or trees, and is tailored to the irrigation flow. Metzer’s sturdy 25mm pipe is elevated above crop or tree level. It is widely spread, placed at every second tree, and the hose is attached to the tree trunk by a flexible wire to prevent damage to the tree - easy to install and remove for maintenance. Metzer News

  • 9. 9metzer-group.com As one of the very first drip irrigation producers in the world, Metzer had to develop specific solutions for the cost- and quality-efficient production of driplines, including innovative models with no previous expertise elsewhere. Metzer Goes “Local Global” The increase in international clientele and the need to have local presence motivated Metzer to open subsidiary companies around the world Over the years, Metzer’s products attracted clients from all around the world. At the beginning, supply and support were provided from Israel, but with the increase in international clients and the need to establish local presence, Metzer started to open subsidiary companies all around the world. Each of Metzer’s subsidiary companies was built along with a local partner familiar with the local market, while Metzer adds to the partnership its know-how, technology and the ability to develop products and projects. The subsidiary employs local workers and has its own local marketing network, allowing Metzer to better understand and customize its products to the markets through better knowledge of local culture and language. The subsidiaries use Metzer’s known brand and high-quality machinery and products and thus enable Metzer to offer tailored products and services, with better response times, faster manufacturing product supply, and better availability and service to its clients. • 12. “We Seek Out what is New and Different“ While listening to feedback from its clients, Metzer uses its knowledge, insights and creativity, in order to provide new, high-quality products, among them ROOTGUARD® and Anti-Bacterial Technologies. An Interview with Dov Avital, Business Innovation Manager at Metzer Why has Metzer chosen to focus on innovation? Dov: “It is important for Metzer to preserve the connection between our kibbutz community and factory, and to retain our culture of information-sharing. As such, growing in size to compete with large multinational companies, or lowering our prices to compete with companies based on cheaper labor countries, were options that did not match our vision for Metzer. In addition, for both Metzer and agriculture itself to progress, it is important to look forward. We don’t need ‘more of the same’. With these considerations in mind, we decided that the approach best suited to our factory was a focus on innovative solutions”. How do you go about developing new products? What do you look for? “Our primary focus is the farmers”, Dov continues. “The farmers take more risks and are often less rewarded than any other link in the agricultural production chain. Our aim is to help the farmers grow crops, yield more for their work, reduce costs, and increase profits. When developing products, we listen to feedback from our clients, look to where we can make a difference, try to predict future business opportunities, and seek out what is new and different. Then, using our knowledge, insight and creativity, and taking into consideration differing world markets, we improve our existing products and develop new, high-quality products”. ROOTGUARD® and anti-bacterial technologies ROOTGUARD® and anti-bacterial technologies solve the problem of drippers' blockages either by root intrusion or by bacterial film growth when using recycled water. This innovative solution came, again, from problems from the fields. Metzer is at the forefront of using sub-surface irrigation and anti-bacterial technologies. What issues were you looking to fix with these products? “Metzer’s subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) has many agronomic advantages, including water and fertilizer conservation, and savings in operating costs. Another benefit of SDI is that it allows us to use wastewater and effluent water by eliminating smells or contact between these waters, which contain a high concentration of bacteria, and the people and the plants themselves. “There were two issues with SDI. The first was root intrusion. Roots were entering the dripper holes and blocking them. Also, where water with a high concentration of bacteria and organic matter was used - such as wastewater or polluted river water - the bacteria and organic matter were colonizing the drippers and blocking them as well. The second issue was that there was no way of tracking the state of the SDI hoses, which worried our farmers”. How are Metzer’s ROOTGUARD® and anti-bacterial technologies fixing issues with SDI? Dov Avital, Business Innovation Manager at Metzer Metzer’s Innovation
  • 13. 13metzer-group.com “ROOTGUARD® delivers an herbicide embedded inside the plastic hose. Our wastewater driplines are equipped with an inner layer of anti-bacterial technology which does not attack bacteria but just stops them from developing biofilm and blocking the dripper. Finally, we have partnered with other companies to provide our farmers with real-time monitoring of our SDI and provide an assurance about the condition of their hoses. “Until recently, ROOTGUARD® was relatively expensive and used only in longer- term crops. In cooperation with Geoflow Inc., we have lined our hoses with a ROOTGUARD® band, instead of placing it in the drippers themselves – a solution that insured better value for money”. How does Metzer’s approach to these issues differ from other companies? “While general recommendations often destroy bacteria with chlorine, Metzer’s approach is to have our drip irrigation technology work with nature, not against it. We do not want to kill the bacteria because it helps turn water generally discarded into organic matter available as nutrient to the plants, while remaining safe for humans and beneficial to farms. “Another unique approach is our use of wastewater and effluent water. Most of the water used in homes, factories, barns, and more, goes to waste when it is actually an excellent resource - when delivered correctly - of nutritious organic matter that improves the quality of the soil, conserves water and lowers costs. This is especially important in areas lacking in natural water, including Kibbutz Metzer itself. There is limited awareness around the world about using bacteria as a mechanism for water utilization, regulation, and technology”. How has the market response been to Metzer’s ROOTGUARD® and anti- bacterial technologies? “Elation. Demand is continuously growing for these products”. What is the vision for innovation at Metzer in the upcoming years? “Metzer is an environmentally-conscious company. Our next aim is developing plastic that will degrade in the ground when it completes its job. Metzer is an innovative and creative company that is attentive to its growers, and which develops products and technologies accordingly. We are happily dealing with and discovering problems not yet solved and are finding solutions to these problems using creativity and teamwork”, Dov summarize. • 14. Tailor-made solutions to fit customers' needs Metzer's Projects Department focuses on small and medium-sized projects offering various options for establishing projects. Metzer’s presence around the world enables it to better integrate manpower in its projects, while supervising every aspect and deal with each issue The world agricultural market is undergoing a process of centralization. In the past, companies engaged in different sectors of agriculture, such as trade, product- processing, etc. Today, more and more international companies that need agricultural products, are developing large-scale projects in different countries. These companies concluded that in order to improve their profitability and logistics, they should also be part of the growing process and thus offer a whole supply chain - from growing to marketing the final product. This phenomenon is leading to a global momentum in the construction of agricultural projects, with customers interested in working with companies that are able to give the total package. A few years ago, Metzer decided to take part in this global trend and set up the company's Projects Department. Initially, the department established a few projects, and in recent months it has become a separate business unit, operating independently on behalf of Metzer. Metzer's project department offers, in fact, an overall package for building a project - from project characterization, planning, execution, supervision: escorting every stage of the project until it reaches a successful state of operation, to the satisfaction of the customer. The options are varied and the projects offered by Metzer are tailor- made solutions to fit customers' needs. Ongoing Dialog with Customers Once work in Metzer’s Project Department is initiated, the department's team approaches clients either through the subsidiaries of Metzer or through Israeli companies that develop projects abroad. As soon as they locate a business opportunity, characterizing the customer's needs begins: the profile of the area, agronomic situation, climatic conditions and the crops themselves. The customers’ requirements and knowledge are also considered and the process includes an ongoing dialog with customers, in order to offer them the best solutions. There are projects that include setting up an entire logistics chain and others that deal with a particular niche. Metzer's project department is flexible and attentive. What characterizes the work of the Projects’ Department is that a project is not over even after the client confirms that he has received the application and the installation according to his requirements. The real test of each project is its ongoing functioning. At this point, post-sales begin, in which the department checks whether everything is done according to plans - whether to add or remove something, etc. Focus on Small and Medium-sized Projects The market for irrigation projects is very competitive, and therefore, Metzer’s Project Department decided to focus on small and medium-sized projects, in which personal, close and focused service can be provided. The service is customer- focused and enjoys the advantages of Metzer's flexibility and the importance that the company gives to its clients’ needs. In order to create projects from start to finish, Metzer's projects department works closely with various companies, including those involved in automation, computing, valves, water filtration, pumps, electric companies and more. These collaborations enable the department to provide its customers with varied and comprehensive solutions, with the overall responsibility provided by Metzer. Metzer’s Projects Department
  • 15. 15metzer-group.com At the same time, Metzer also able to provide its customers with financing solutions for the projects. Since more and more customers are dealing with the issue of financing in large volumes, Metzer is able to offer its client a package of financing solutions, in cooperation with financial companies, thus enabling customers address the issue of working capital until such time as the project yields revenues. Local Presence in Each Country Metzer has subsidiaries in various countries around the world. Since every region in the world has a different agricultural culture, history of crops, climate conditions, water qualities and more, one of Metzer's Project Department’s advantages is the ability to use local workers for each project. These workers are in the field: they inspectand examine the work and are able to offer solutions for every problem. This gives customers the confidence to know whom to turn to in case of any difficulty. Metzer's Projects Department includes professional planners and hydraulics specialists, who know and control the fields of water and pumping, electric panels, hydraulic planning, control and computing. When necessary, the department is assisted by external consultants who have been working with it for many years. Over the years, Metzer’s Projects Department has established various projects over thousands of hectares in African countries, in the former Soviet Union, in South America and in China, leading their owners to success and prosperity.
