The document compares throughput using metroethernet (ME) and synchronous transport module level 1 (STM.1) networks by summarizing a case study. A nodeB was previously connected to a radio network controller via a metroethernet network, resulting in low throughput issues. The network topology was optimized to carry both the nodeB's ATM and fast ethernet traffic over a new STM.1 leased line. Site acceptance tests showed improved throughput performance after migrating the nodeB's tunnels from the metroethernet link to the new STM.1 link.
