Mercy for Earth is a non-profit organization founded and directed by Ignacio Barsottelli, a veteran of the environmental conservation movement.
In 1997, Ignacio Barsottelli founded the non-profit organization “Yo Limpio a Puerto Rico” (I Clean PR). The organization partnered with the Puerto Rican department of education to institute environmental education in schools and establish additional programs to educate the community about various conservation methods – initiatives that continue to influence the community today.

What is our purpose as a species on this planet? “Mercy for Earth”, a feature length
documentary film that explores why we are in our current ecological state, provides an
attainable and permanent solution which may just answer the question, why are we here? With
the participation of Academy Award winners, leading scientists, and educators, we will tell our
compelling story in a visually innovative way that will explore our current crisis, the falling
number of animal species, and the sacrifices made by environmentalists. Culminating with a
call of support for our proposal, this story of our past, hidden tragedies, and optimistic future
lend themselves perfectly to the medium of film, where every emotion can be engaged.

We will go on to highlight our current ecological
state, utilizing expert interviews, visual footage
and animation. This will address how we
consume, and pose the question, why is this so?
Why did some cultures learn to inherently live
with nature when others didn’t? Here will
contrast various cultures and time periods such as
Native Americans to the almost extinction of
wild buffalo, again using V.O. narration, period
photos and sourced video.

What is our role on a planet full of species whose
roles are more clearly defined? We will highlight
earths place in the universe and make the point
that this is about man-kind’s survival, not that of
the planet itself which will continue on long after
us.
Then we transition to the issue of wildlife
conservation, and how our consumption of
animal based products used in food, fashion, and
lifestyle has left some species on the verge of
extinction. We will highlight the marketplace for
these goods, the billions of dollars generated and
the actions currently being taken. The impact
will come from images of slain animals, and
statistics that highlight the shocking numbers
killed each year.
Supporting our argument of generational
education, we will bring to light the individual
efforts of environmentalists around the world
who have been murdered protecting these species
and others.

For decades individuals have been forced to
mobilize ecological efforts and provide education
of their own accord. More than 5,000
environmentalists have been murdered in the last
10 years, and through dramatic re-enactments and
media footage, we aim to highlight the sacrifice
they made. In particular, we have exclusive
interviews with those close to the recently
murdered Jairo Mora Sandoval in Costa Rica. A
month ago he was killed by poachers while trying
to protect endangered Leatherback sea Turtle
eggs. The Jairo Mora Sandoval, Chico Mendes, and
Dian Fossey murders will be dramatized, and
thousands of other activists who have paid with
their lives trying to teach us will receive a moving
and heartfelt tribute. Jairo Mora Sandoval
So what is the answer? Here we present the solution of environmental education, and the forms with which it can be im-
plemented. A series of scientific, environmental, and educational experts will present the case for this proposal. This will
be a call to arms where we will break down how this can be accomplished, and what it will take from the audience.

Barsottelli brings to the production more than 25 years experience in producing, operating businesses and fundraising. He
founded the non-profit Yo Limpio America that mobilized over 80,000 children for activities supporting the environment.
Ignacio created an educational television program for Puerto Rico Public Broadcasting Corp. that included 14 half hour
episodes, and ran in conjunction with strategic PSA’s that he himself directed and produced. He enlisted the support of
over twenty celebrities, including Oscar and Grammy award winners, to serve as spokespeople for the education
campaigns of Yo Limpio a Puerto Rico / Yo Limpio America.
Ignacio Barsottelli has received the highest environmental honor when he was awarded the Environmental Quality
Award from the Environmental Protection Agency, (EPA)

After a long journey along the road of environmental activism, Ignacio Barsottelli drew on all his
experience and wrote the script, “Mercy for Earth”. It is here he reveals how integrating
environmental education into school curriculums around the world can evolve a next generation
that will possess a high level understanding of our environment.

Film is a powerful medium to initiate change, and we have chosen to create a documentary
that provides hope, not create fear. We want to highlight humanities potential, not dwell on
our shortcomings, and we are not demanding sacrifice, but rather we are asking for effort.
Documentaries are enjoying greater box office success than ever before, with 10 of the top
25 grossing films being centered on the environment or education. We believe that by
producing a documentary, we have chosen the best means with which to make the biggest
impact.
If you support this film, it will provide an opportunity for our proposal to reach the very
people who can initiate change when it goes to the United Nations in 2014. Where
applicable, we will gladly promote your company and the support you have provided for
this endeavor, which unlike traditional films, will continue long after the release of the
film.
We have the backing of Academy Award Winner, Nobel Peace Prize recipient, and the
leaders in science, education, and the environment. Our film has been endorsed by the
Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change, (IPCC), the International Documentary
Association (IDA), and leading environmental groups such as PETA.
Now we need your help. We require the funding to complete this project. Your
consideration and time has been greatly appreciated, and we would welcome any feedback
and discussion regarding your involvement in this project.

the sacrifices of environmentalists have gone largely unnoticed.
