What Is Mental Health Safety?
The concept of “Mental health safety” involves preventing
injury to the mental well-being of workers.
Why it is Important ?
➢ Poor mental health not only hurts the individual, it also
reduces corporate profits.
➢ More than half the world’s populationare currently in work
and 15% of working-age adults live with a mental disorder.
➢ Depressionand anxiety cost the global economy US$ 1
trillioneach year predominantly fromreduced productivity.
➢ Twelve billionworking days are lostevery year to
depressionand anxiety alone.
What Are Factors Affecting
workers Mental health
safety?
Low Work Clarity.
Poor Environment conditions.
Separated from the family.
Poor Workplace relationship
Frequent travelling.
Lack of Routine.
Lack of Recognition and rewards.
Poor Organisational justice.
Long working hours.
Poor support from the colleague
Violent and Traumatic events

➢ Stigma is when someone sees you in a negative way because of your mental illness.
➢ Discrimination is when someone treats you in a negative way because of your
mental illness.
➢ Social stigma and discrimination can make mental health problems worse and
stop a person from getting the help they need.

➢ Are we addressing mental health safety issue at our workplace?
➢ Have we incorporatedmental health hazard at our workplace HIRA?
➢ Have we taken any control measure for our workplace to mitigate mental
health safety hazards ?

As EHS officer we have to take care of workers physical safety as well as
mental health safety.
We cant affordto limitour definitionof occupational health and safety to
only the “physical safety”.
Because WHO Said “Without mental health there can be NO true physical
health”
