3. Introduction
The purpose of this evening – to inform you of how
Room 16 & Cowley team are run.
Year 3 class
25 students.
I group the children for reading, maths, writing
using the NZ curriculum according to where the
children are working.
The whole of Cowley team plan units of work at
different levels to cater for all our learners.

5. E-learning and Mobile Devices
Room 16 is one of six trail e-learning
classrooms at Kohi.
The focus is on mobile devices being
integrated into the classroom programme.
They are not a stand alone device.
Digital citizenship
Self motivated learners
There is going to be a twenty first century
evening in June.
6. Routines
Healthy snack– a small healthy snack that can be eaten
quickly. A good idea to include one for Break 3 also.
Start of the day – I am trying to help the children become
more independent so it is important for your child to
follow the classroom routines each day
e.g. placing their book bag in the right place, putting their
chair down each morning, choosing readers etc.
Drink bottles – need one at school to keep in the
classroom.

Standardised across the school – (consistency & fairness)
Steps:
Warning/ redirection
Name on the whiteboard
Time out in another Cowley team classroom and a consequence form
filled in.
Email and form sent to parents for signing.
8. Homework
Reading logs (reading 15mins a night)
4 comments a week. Your child fills this in with your support if
needed. Reading material: guided reading books, independent
readers, novel challenge, library books (Ever second Thursday is our
library day).
Spelling words (5mins a night)
5-10 a week from the essential word list. Ideas for practising will be
in their notebook.
Book bags
Should be at school everyday. Please keep the reading log, poem
book and spelling notebook in there.
Maths Quiz – Starting Week 6
Science Homework - Optional
Homework is tested every Friday.
9. Communication
Classroom blog
www.kohiroom16.blogspot.com the link will be emailed each Tuesday for
term 1.
The school newsletter Sent out every week via email

“Busy times” I have meetings Monday, Tuesday & Thursday
afternoons.
School & classroom events
This will be in the Tuesday newsletter & on the classroom blog – Need
to read every week.
10. Email Communication
The purpose of this is for notices, to make appointments
for behavioural and academic concerns, certificate
recipients, relaying information from the office.
For more in-depth issues, I will contact you via email or
the phone to schedule a meeting for a face to face chat or
a simple phone conversation.
Times of response – I will acknowledge the receipt of an
email on the day I receive it, however I may not always be
able to reply with information immediately. I will reply as
soon as I can.
11. Admin
Absence procedures
Phone the office or email the office team or myself.
Late
Sign in at the office & your child will bring the late slip with them to class.
Hats
Compulsory in term 1 & 4. Please name them.
Appointments
Sign out at the office, even if you’ve told me.
Uniform Shop
Thursday 8:30am in the hall. Please name all items of clothing
including sports gear.
Assemblies
Whole school on Fridays (odd weeks) at 1:45pm. You will receive an email
from me if your child is receiving a certificate by Thursday.
P.E gear
Needed Tuesdays (team sport) & Thursdays (classroom P.E.)
