2. What is Meebo? Meebo is an online tool that allows users to chat with folks without downloading special software. It also gives a single login for all of your chatting software (ICQ, AOL, MSN, etc.). For this course, you can use Meebo to chat with me during office hours. This is useful if you have a question but you don’t want to schlep all the way to Meier Hall in December. In this presentation, you’ll get a quick overview on how-to use Meebo.
3. Check to see if I’m online. If I’m online, the comment bubble will be green and Meebo will say I’m online. If I’m not online, the comment bubble will be red, and I’ll be listed “offline.” Do not leave messages if I’m offline because those messages will be lost.
4. Edit Your Name At the bottom of the widget, you’ll see an “edit nickname” box. Click on it, and type in your first and last name. You’re now ready to start chatting.
5. Chat! Type in the bottom box, and press enter to send. You’ll see my responses displayed above. Meebo works like any instant messaging or texting software you’ve used.
6. A few pointers… I’m on Meebo during office hours and sometimes in the evenings. Be sure to check that I am online before you send a message. If I’m not there and you send a message, I won’t get it. Keep in mind that you are chatting with your English teacher. Use appropriate language and grammar. Mistakes are acceptable; intentional subverting of language (How r u? Watwuz doo ystrdy?)
7. Any other questions? Stop by during office hours, and I’ll be happy to help you out. Or send me an email! Be sure to read the email etiquette page!
