HORNERY CONTACTS FAIRFAX CEO IN SUPPORT OF THE
HERALD
Sonia Hornery MP, Member for Wallsend, today contacted Fairfax Media
and insisted they continue employing production staff at the Newcastle
Herald's office in Newcastle rather than New Zealand.
Ms Hornery wrote to Fairfax CEO Greg Hywood and said that the foreign
outsourcing proposal will disadvantage the many hardworking
employees who have made the Newcastle Herald the quality newspaper
it is today.
"This proposal is unacceptable to both the production staff who will lose
their jobs and the people of the Hunter who rely so heavily on the Herald
as a source of information," she said.
"I spoke to many people at the rally on Saturday and know first-hand that
the Newcastle Herald plays a special role within our community.
"The hardworking production staff would know Newcastle and the Hunter
region like the back of their hands.
"I contacted Greg Hywood and insisted the company retains the
production staff at Newcastle, as our region deserves a successful
regional newspaper developed entirely in the Hunter."
