Media can be defined as any systems that enable communication between people, whether symbolic or technological. Media have three components: artifacts or devices used to communicate information, the activities and practices people engage in to share information, and the social arrangements and organizations that develop around these devices and practices. Examples of media artifacts include remote controls, video recorders, joysticks, and mobile phones. The large number of obsolete media artifacts ends up filling dump trucks and very little is recovered for recycling.
