The European Union (EU) is a unique political and economic partnership of 28 European countries that was founded on principles of human dignity, freedom, equality, and human rights. Over 50 years, the EU has promoted peace, democracy, stability and prosperity in Europe while respecting cultural diversity. The EU works to share its values and achievements with neighboring countries and beyond. On January 28, Ukraine will hold a final conference for an EU-funded project that aimed to develop Ukraine's agricultural land market in line with EU best practices over 2 years. The conference will highlight reforms that create a functioning land market and incentives for farmers to invest in better technologies and productivity. This reform seeks to ultimately attract investment and stimulate growth in Ukraine's agricultural sector.

With the support of the EU Ukraine developed its land relations
On January 28 the final Conference of the EU-funded Twinning Project “Assistance in Development of an Open and
Transparent Agricultural Land Market in Ukraine” will sum up project’s achievements within 2 years. Beneficiary from
Ukraine - the State Service of Ukraine for geodesy, cartography and cadastre - together with consortium partners from the
Netherlands, Germany and Lithuania will present the key challenges and achievements on the way of reformation of
Ukrainian land sphere in line with the best EU practices. The essential reforms achieved so far will create the functioning
land market in Ukraine, while framers will get incentives to invest in better technologies and improve productivity of their
lands. In the long run this will attract investments and stimulate the development of the agricultural sector.

Background Information:
Twinning is one of the tools introduced within the European Neighbourhood Policy framework to strengthen relations
between the European Union and its neighbors. In the context of the signed political and economic parts of the EU-Ukraine
Association Agreement the EU supports Ukrainian government in developing agricultural land market of Ukraine in the
framework of the Twinning Project “Assistance in Development of an Open and Transparent Agricultural Land Market In
Ukraine”. The project is implemented by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, BVVG German AgriForest Privatisation Agency,
Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania for the period of January 2014 – January 2016.
The EU follows the so-called “open market principle” which counts for all markets including the land market. The principle
comprises: equal treatment, non-discrimination, proportionality, transparency, openness, no distortion of competition.
These principles are inherent into all Project activities.
