A2 Media Evaluation Questions

Question 1- In what ways does your media
     product use, develop or challenge forms and
        conventions of real media products?

Our music video never followed the structure indie music videos have where the
band are featured, like The Arctic Monkeys- “brainstorm”. However in the ancillary
tasks- the digipak and the poster- the band were included as a compromise to stay
true to the indie genre. In the poster the album name and the band name are the
focal point, as well as a clear font, which are the usual conventions of adverts for
albums which my research showed. In my three products, I have not really adapted
conventions, we felt there was no need, and instead challenged the conventions of
real music videos, digipak’s and posters. and made it our own. This will attract a
wide variety of audiences as it is not specific to a genre except the song.
Question 2- How effective is the combination
   of your main product and ancillary texts?
 Having a ‘brand identity’ establishes our product, and makes it different from
other products already available, which people will instantly recognise. We have
achieved this in several. Firstly, the weightless concept has been maintained
throughout which instantly associates it with the song title and album name.
Also, the mimes have been used for our “band identity” which could easily be used
for other products at a later data.
 The digipak will ‘sell’ the song very easily as it attracts the audience, and makes
you want to take a second look to see all the details. Also, the red balloon and the
red letter of every word is the focal point which works very well, as it is also
presented in the music video for the song. The advert will sell the digipak as it
makes it clear when it will be out. The band featuring in the digipak and the advert
poster communicates the genre of the music video even if the video itself doesn’t.
Question 3- In what ways does your media product
 use, develop or challenge forms and conventions
              of real media products?

  From the audience feedback of the final product the target audience was
  very excited by this and said it looked very professional. Other members of
  the school, and friends, really enjoyed it and gave very positive feedback.
  Likewise, our media teacher said it was the best she has seen at the school
  so far, which is very promising. This gives me courage that all that hard
  work has paid off. We worked well as a team and this showed in the
  quality of our work. Producing and editing a music video is a difficult and
  very long process, which needs skill and precision in order to perfect;
  considering this I believe we did very well as a group.
Question 4- In what ways does your media product
      use, develop or challenge forms and conventions

     Using blogger the second time around for Media was much easier than last year. I
     managed to get better use out of the resources available, which helped with the
     creative side a lot. Prezi was something new for me, which changed the
     monotonous PowerPoint's that had become clichéd. However it was very time
     consuming, and for a first timer very complicated to figure out. On the other hand
     Wordle was very quick and simple and fun to use which just advances a simple
     concept. Using the Apple Macs for the editing process of our music video helped a
     lot. Having it available at school made it easier than it was for AS when we had only
     two days to edit at the CLC centre. Having better software such as Photoshop
     enhanced our poster and digipak, however needed some getting used to. The
     digital cameras we used to film the music video made it easy to capture quality
     shots, however a fault with the tripod made it hard for some of the shots. The Final
     Cut software was not available to us unfortunately so we had to work with IMovies
     which was not as good, but we managed to do well. Websites such as Da font was
     used for the digipak title which made it more creative as was the Waylayers’
     website which gave us access to keep up with the band, while YouTube gave us
     access to research music videos, and upload our own.

  • 4. Question 3- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? From the audience feedback of the final product the target audience was very excited by this and said it looked very professional. Other members of the school, and friends, really enjoyed it and gave very positive feedback. Likewise, our media teacher said it was the best she has seen at the school so far, which is very promising. This gives me courage that all that hard work has paid off. We worked well as a team and this showed in the quality of our work. Producing and editing a music video is a difficult and very long process, which needs skill and precision in order to perfect; considering this I believe we did very well as a group.
  • 5. Question 4- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions 14 of real media products? Using blogger the second time around for Media was much easier than last year. I managed to get better use out of the resources available, which helped with the creative side a lot. Prezi was something new for me, which changed the monotonous PowerPoint's that had become clichéd. However it was very time consuming, and for a first timer very complicated to figure out. On the other hand Wordle was very quick and simple and fun to use which just advances a simple concept. Using the Apple Macs for the editing process of our music video helped a lot. Having it available at school made it easier than it was for AS when we had only two days to edit at the CLC centre. Having better software such as Photoshop enhanced our poster and digipak, however needed some getting used to. The digital cameras we used to film the music video made it easy to capture quality shots, however a fault with the tripod made it hard for some of the shots. The Final Cut software was not available to us unfortunately so we had to work with IMovies which was not as good, but we managed to do well. Websites such as Da font was used for the digipak title which made it more creative as was the Waylayers’ website which gave us access to keep up with the band, while YouTube gave us access to research music videos, and upload our own.
