Clinical Governance
Clinical Governance and best practice is of
paramount importance to the healthcare industry
as a whole, and, due to the tragic death of Mr David
Gray, has been of particular importance in the
provision of locum GP’s. We are well aware of the
CQC report into Take Care Now and feel the key
element derived is robust monitoring. We
encourage our clients to carryout clinical audits and
feedback to us the GP’s clinical performance.
We have had many discussions with various clients
about taking practical steps which would ensure that
as an agency we adopt best practice in respect of
Clinical Governance. Some of these points are;
 We engage with PCT’s in checking the GP’s
Medical Performers List, appraisal schedule
and whether there are any concerns.
 Registrations are also checked with the
GMC & GP Register.
 Clients should provide locum GP’s with an
induction prior to working and monitor /
audit the first session.
 Feedback about a locum GP’s performance
should be provided regularly (audit
information)
 We ensure that our locum GP’s have
provided the sufficient level of English
proficiency.
 Any complaints or serious incidents should
be highlighted in a timely manner and
investigated thoroughly.
 Full enhanced compliance files to include; TB
Health Checks, Hep B, Child Protection
Certificates, Basic Life Support etc
 Maximum working hours restriction.
