Market Summary Prior to the global Financial Crisis, the Gulf region had a very healthy and promising economic activity. Hundreds of billions of US Dollars of investments were expected in upgrading and refurbishing existing infrastructure and industries as well as new projects. This included ports, roadways, airports, power plants, water purification plants, petrochemical, chemical and other investments in the health sector to provide for the increased growth in population as well as economic activity.
Market Summary The credit crunch has forced companies to seek alternative ways of maintaining liquidity. Nearly half of all companies have disposed of or shut down parts of their business. Investors, whether private or governmental, have tightened on spending, and there is a general air of uncertainty, bordering on fear for the immediate future.
Outlook Whilst most developed markets are either perceived as stagnant or in decline, companies still see major opportunities in the Gulf market. Some 18% expect significant growth, whilst the majority (57%) expect growth to continue but a slower pace than over the last two years, with 25% expect growth to slow significantly .
