Abstract
The study of behaviour of propagation of ultrasonic waves in liquid system and solids is now rather well established as an effective means for examining certain physical properties of the materials. It is particularly well adapted to examine changes in such physical properties while they occur. The data obtained from ultrasonic propagation parameters such as ultrasonic velocity, adiabatic compressibility, molar volume, free length etc; and their variation with concentration of one of the component of the medium are useful in understanding the nature of molecular interaction in terms of physical parameters owing to the sensitivity to very low population densities at high energy states ultrasonic methods have been preferred and are reported to be complementary to other techniques like dielectric relaxation, I.R spectroscopy, N.M.R etc. Hence the author preferred to study the ultrasonic velocity and density measurement of aqueous solutions for NaCl and KCl of various concentrations. One of the important intermolecular properties of a liquid is the free length Lf between the surfaces of two neighbouring molecules and in the distance covered by the propagating acoustic waves between the surfaces of the two neighbouring molecules. The non-linear variations are observed in acoustic parameters of NaCl and KCl solutions indicating the formation of complex ions. Molecular interactions can be studied through Rao’s constants and Wada’s constants which are constants in non interacting systems. The abrupt change observed in Rao’s constant and Wada’s constant shows existence of molecular interaction.

Children and Families Forum Suicide Prevention for Children and AJinElias52
Children and Families Forum: Suicide Prevention for Children and AdolescentsBy Liza Greville, MA, LCSWSocial Work TodayVol. 17 No. 5 P. 32
With the release of the Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why in March 2017, social workers from middle schools to colleges and universities across the country found themselves plunged into conversations with adolescents and young adults around topics related to suicide. While many mental health professionals objected strongly to the series, saying it contains harmful messages about the inevitability of suicide, the ability to achieve revenge through suicide, the absence of helpful others, and insufficient messages about the availability of help and support, most professionals acknowledged that, apart from these concerns, the series opened a space for conversation on a topic that is shrouded in stigma, fear, pain, and misunderstanding.
By having an accurate understanding of the scope of the problem, confronting myths and imprecise language, and using best practices in screening, intervention, and prevention, social workers have a critical role in helping children, adolescents, and young adults move through a suicidal crisis to emotional wellness.
Data on Suicide
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide was the 10th-leading cause of death for all ages in 2013. Suicide was the third-leading cause of death among persons aged 10 to 14, and the second among persons aged 15 to 34, though middle-aged adults accounted for the largest proportion of suicides (56% in 2011). The percentage of adults having serious thoughts about suicide was highest among adults aged 18 to 25 (7.4%), followed by adults aged 26 to 49 (4%), then by adults aged 50 and older (2.7%) (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015).
The following were noted among students in grades nine through 12 during 2013:
• Seventeen percent of students seriously considered attempting suicide in previous 12 months (22.4% of females and 11.6% of males).
• 13.6% of students made a plan about how they would attempt suicide in the previous 12 months (16.9% of females and 10.3% of males).
• Eight percent of students attempted suicide one or more times in previous 12 months (10.6% of females and 5.4% of males).
• 2.7% of students made a suicide attempt that resulted in an injury, poisoning, or an overdose that required medical attention (3.6% of females and 1.8% of males) (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015).
New research presented in May 2017 at the Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting analyzed hospital admissions with a diagnosis of suicidal thoughts or behaviors and serious self-harm from 32 children's hospitals across that nation from 2008 to 2015. Researchers found the number of admissions has more than doubled during the past decade. The research found the largest increases among girls, and seasonal variations with the spring and fall having higher admission rates than summer (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2017 ...

Case Study
Becoming a forensic psychologist after graduating from Ashford with a psychology degree will be an exciting part of my life. Graduating from the psychology program at Ashford means I have the skills necessary to move forward in my career goals. I am now able to read and think critically and creatively, communicate effectively through my speech, writings, and through the use of technology. I now understand the various forms of diversity, the interdependence among living beings, and the environment and humanly-created systems. I am able to direct service of meeting the needs of others, develop the skills and abilities that provide for lifelong learning, as well as I now have the ability to draw information from different fields of study to make informed decisions (Ashford University, 2014). Having a psychology degree means I can analyze human behavior and their mental processes, as well as analyze theories of continuing education in psychology and related fields. I can evaluate theories of personality development and psychology research methods. I can now demonstrate communication behaviors that are consistent with the study and practice of psychology, as well as have and use skills and concepts that are fundamental to the ethical application of psychology (Ashford University, 2014).
I as a bartender deal with personal challenges all the time when I hear people tell me their problems and I want to try to give them advice. Many times I get told things regarding my brother and his girlfriends’ issues at home and I want to help but it’s an ethical struggle for me. The reason for the struggle is that I work with my brothers’ girlfriend and my advice could be biased. From my point of view the problem is that my brother and his girlfriend don’t have good communication. The problem from what they can tell is the other person doesn’t listen or doesn’t care to listen. The options I see it as they can either try to sit down with an unbiased person to help them communicate effectively or they can end their relationship. The risks and consequences are that they may end up expressing feelings that are not ready to be dealt with, or they could end up with a really strong relationship. The other risk and consequence could be that they end up in a huge fight and the relationship is over. The only evidence I have to assist me is what they both tell me about the situation and what I have personally seen.
With this case I would be able to think critically and creatively, I can analyze their behavior and their mental processing, as well as demonstrate communication behaviors. I will look at how they are trying to communicate now and think of other ways they can try to communicate such as text or email. Maybe even writing each other letters. I will analyze their behaviors as to how they perceive the other person and the way the other person comes across while speaking. Through better communication skills the couple will be able to better discuss their i ...

A Program Plan Proposal For The Development Of: Anxiety, Alcohol, and Stress ...Christa Brown
This project included research and evaluation on the correlation between anxiety, stress, and alcohol consumption among college students. In addition, the project included a needs assessment for starting a new social media-based support group to address mental health needs on campus and development of alternative coping mechanisms for anxiety and stress management in an effort to reduce alcohol consumption among UCA students. Finally, the proposal was presented to the University of Central Arkansas’ Office of Student Wellness & Development director, Jenna Davidson.
1. Mental Health Resources at UNC Asheville
By Neve Pollard
“Don’t worry, be happy,” is a common saying in American culture.
For college students, this may be easier said than done.
According to the American Psychological Association’s website, the state of mental
health on college campuses is becoming a growing crisis- depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation,
alcohol abuse, eating disorders, and self-injury are common cases seen on college campuses
throughout the United States.
At UNC Asheville, mental health advocacy plays an important role on campus.
“I encourage students to be their own advocate concerning the well-being of their mental
health,” said Jay Cutspec, director of the health and counseling center. “Beyond that, the
counseling center offers outreach programs on campus in order to attract students to our
resources.”
Cutspec said the center’s outreach programs have brought a plethora of new students to
the counseling center. To properly accommodate all students, Cutspec said the counseling center
has walk-in hours so students can be seen the same day they go to the center.
Beck Martens, senior sociology and women, gender, and sexuality studies double major
from Hollywood, F.L., said scheduling a meeting with the health and counseling center is
difficult to do because of the center’s limited weekday hours.
“I don’t understand why the center is open only during class-time,” they said. “It is
inconvenient for busy students.”
Cutspec said the most common mental health issue seen on campus is anxiety and
common physical characteristics of the mental disorder are headaches and stomachaches.
Because of this, he said the health and counseling center is closely connected so mind and body
can be treated at the same time.
Cutspec said the counseling center initially introduces stress reduction strategies such as
deep breathing, meditation, and relaxation exercises to students. Beyond this, it is up to the
student to continue visiting the center.
The counseling center offers several programs to students who are personally seeking to
improve their mental health. Current programs include The Daring Way and Dialectical
Behavior Therapy.
“I would say everyone should go through DBT because it teaches emotional regulation,
life skills, and coping mechanisms,” said Cutspec. “It helps with stress management.”
2. According to James Posedel, certified Daring Way facilitator at UNCA, the Daring Way
program helps students create authentic personal connections based on the research of Brene
Brown. Brown’s research says the power of human connection is found through vulnerability.
Posedel said the group meets twice a week for eight weeks and attempts to address how fear and
shame affect human relationships and how it can be overcome. Less than ten students comprise
the group each semester.
Cutspec said if a student has a mental health diagnosis and is in need of receiving
academic accommodations, the student will be directed to the Office of Academic Accessibility
at UNCA.
The OAA counts mental health diagnoses as a form of disability in which students can
receive accommodations for.
“The biggest disabling factor, for people with disabilities, whether it’s a mental disability
or not, is the misconceptions and preconceived notions of others,” said Joshua Kaufman,
Director of the OAA.
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 defines disability as a physical or mental
impairment substantially limiting one or more life activities of an individual. Kaufman said the
reauthorization of the Act two decades later allowed the government to more thoroughly define
what a ‘major life activity’ is. According to the ADA, a ‘major life activity’ is defined as major
bodily functions as well as functional activities such as learning, reading, concentrating,
thinking, communicating, and working.
According to the ADA, the law prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity
for persons with disabilities in employment, state and local government services, public
accommodations, commercial facilities, and transportation. Kaufman said the ADA laws
combine with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to create the guidelines of the OAA.
Section 504 is a civil rights statute that prohibits discrimination against students with disabilities
and ensures their right to fair educational opportunity.
In order to receive accommodations through the OAA, Kaufman said the student should
first establish a relationship with a clinician who can provide documentation of examples of their
functional limitations. He said the student should meet with the same clinician at least three
times before moving forward with the OAA. If a student doesn’t know where to start, Kaufman
says the OAA and Counseling Center offer clinician referral lists.
“Generally I use the term clinician because that covers medical doctors, psychiatrists,
mental health professionals, learning specialists, psychologists, family physicians- any sort of
professional in the field,” Kaufman said.
3. After establishing a relationship with a clinician, the student can move forward with the
documentation aspect of the process. Kaufman said the steps to register are on the website along
with the necessary forms.
The next step would be an ‘intake interview’, he said. This is where the student comes
together with an OAA member to discuss what functional limitations are present and what
accommodations are available for the student based on their situation.
“Testing accommodations, such as extended time for tests, testing in a smaller setting,
priority registration, and the ability to record lectures or have a notetaker are common
examples,” said Kaufman. “Occasional leniency for class absences and the ability to excuse
oneself for a few minutes from the classroom are common accommodations for students with
mental health diagnoses.”
Kaufman said although it has been 25 years since the ADA passed, there is still a
significant amount of misinformation, misconception, misunderstanding, and stereotyping
concerning students with mental health disorders.
Kaufman said the OAA’s goal is to help the UNCA community understand the disabling
part is not in the student, but instead in the environment in which the student is trying to interact.
He said it is his goal to promote social accessibility so students feel comfortable in their
classroom environments.
Oliver Richards, junior classics and sociology double major from Raleigh, N.C., said he
didn’t learn about the OAA until he became an employee for UNCA.
“I had no idea about the OAA until Josh [Kaufman] gave a presentation on it,” he said.
“Raising awareness of the OAA for students would be great because I am not sure if many
students know about it.”
Cutspec said the health and counseling center and the OAA work together to help
students in need of assistance.
“I’d say at some point in everyone’s life they need counseling, and counseling serves to
help people function better and to think about things differently,” he said. “I encourage students
who are experiencing mental health issues to take advantage of these available resources.”
