Traditional supervised approaches would require a strong assumption about what is normal and what not plus a non negligible effort in labeling the training dataset. Deep auto-encoders work very well in learning high-level abstractions and non-linear relationships of the data without requiring data labels. In this talk we will review a few popular techniques used in shallow machine learning and propose two semi-supervised approaches for novelty detection: one based on reconstruction error and another based on lower-dimensional feature compression.

Variants of Support Vector
Machines (SVM) were employed for classification and also
compared the results with Multi-layered Perceptron (MLP).
Empirical results show that both SVM and MLP were suitable
for such motor imagery classifications with the accuracies 85%
and 85.71% respectively. Among all employed feature extraction
techniques wavelet-based methods specifically the energy-
entropy feature set gave promising results for both the classifiers.

The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
