•A number is a mathematical object used
to count , measure and label.
•The original examples are the natural numbers
1,2,3,4,5 and so forth.

• Numbers can be represented in a language with number words.
• Individual numbers can be represented by symbols, called numerals
For example, "5" is a numeral that represents the number Five
• In Hindu –Arabic numeral system the ten basic numerals
represented by numeric symbols such as 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 called as
digits.
• These digits are combined to represent any number.

in 2001 ?
Example 2:In one state the number of bicycles sold in the year 2002 was 7,43,000.
In the year 2003 , the number of bicycles sold was 8, 00,100. In which year were
more number of bicycles sold and by what number?
