Yogyakarta
October 3, 2007
Dear Mom and Dad
Today I really had a good time. I spent a whole day in one –my favorite place- the
beach. Budi, anto and I went to Parangtritis Beach which lies to the South of
Yogyakarta about 27 kilometers away. we left at 6.30 for the bus station and then
caught the earliest bus. we arrived at the beach about an hour later i.e. at about 8
o’clock sharp. Unfortunately, we could not sail, swim, or go to the water by boat. This
is because the Indian Ocean is too dangerous for such activities. we just walked along
the beach and played in the shallow water from time to time. We went home at 2
o’clock p.m.
In the last few weekends, we played and did some gardening, read novels,
fished in the small river and had gymnastics on Friday morning. So I could say that my
stay in Yogya has been enjoyable.
I hope you are all well there. I’ll write again next week.
Love
Howard
Dear Dinda,

Actually I am interested to see it so I plan to visit you this weekend.
will you be home then? I have asked my parents, and they give me
permission to do it. I will leave the house at about 10 a.m. can you
meet me at the railway station?. Please give me information whether
you can make it or not
I am looking forward to seeing you soon.
Your sincerely

Antlers
A handsome stag with majestic antlers admired himself
in a lake. As he looked at his reflection he thought, "My
antlers are beautiful! But these spindly legs of mine are
so skinny I wish I could hide them in shame."
Just then a hunter's arrow whizzed by and the stag
bounded into the woods. As he ran, his beautiful antlers
caught and snagged on the branches of a low-growing
tree. Struggling, he finally pulled himself free. If it weren't
for the exquisite speed of his legs, he would surely have
been captured.
After that, when he gazed at his spindly legs, his pride
would swell. "In times of danger," he thought, "they serve
me well."
Folktale
KING of Luwu had a very beautiful daughter. Her name was
Princess Tandampalik. She was very beautiful. Any man who saw
her would fall in love with her. Everybody knew about her beauty,
including King of Bone. Bone was a kingdom that was far away from
Luwu Kingdom. Then, King of Bone paid a visit to Luwu in order to
propose Princess Tandampalik to be her daughter in-law. His son,
Prince of Bone, was still single. King of Luwu actually did not want to
accept the proposal. According to the culture, he could not have a
son-in-law who lived very far from him. Otherwise, he would suffer
from terrible disease. But, he knew if he refused it, kingdom of Bone
would attack Luwu. Many of his people would suffer.
After that, King of Bone came to Luwu and talked
about the marriage proposal. King of Luwu said
he needed time to decide. King of Bone
understood and went home. Suddenly, a bad
thing happened. Princess Tandampalik was ill.
She got skin rash. The kingdom healer said the
disease could infect others. The king then
decided to put the princess in a safe place. It
was in a remote island named Wajo Island. The
princess was not alone. Some soldiers
accompanied her. The princess was sad. But she
knew if she stayed in the kingdom, many people
would be infected. So she was not angry with her
father for making her stay in a remote island
Folktale
Several days after Princess Tandampalik lived in Wajo Island, a cow
came to her. The cow was different from other cows. The skin was
albino. The cow licked Princess Tandampalik's skin. Amazingly, the
disease was cured. Her skin was smooth again. Her beauty was
back! In the mean time, Prince of Bone was sailing in the sea. He
landed in Wajo Island. He was so surprised to see a very beautiful
girl lived in such a remote island. "Wow, may be she is an angel," he
thought. "Who are you, beautiful girl? Do you live here?" asked
Prince of Bone. Princess Tandampalik then explained everything.
Prince of Bone had heard about her before. He was so happy that he
finally met her. He immediately brought Princess Tandampalik and
the soldiers back to Luwu Kingdom. The King of Luwu was so happy
that her daughter was cured. Not long after that, the King held a
wedding party for her daughter and Prince of Bone. ***

Last holiday, I and my family had picnic. We went to Sanur beach.
We left by car at four in the afternoon. My father drove his car
carefully. We arrived at Sanur at six in the evening. Then we went to
a motel located near the beach. We spent the night there. It was
small but beautiful. The price is also reasonable too.
 In the morning. I woke up early. My sister did too. We ran away to
the beach together. We want to enjoy the sunrise. We walked along
the beach. The weather is cool. I put my sandals off to enjoy the
sand on my feet. A few moments later, our parents joined us. There
were some people sat at the beach to do the same things enjoy the
sunrise.
 An hour later, we went back to our motel and had breakfast. After
that, father took his fishing rod. He wanted to fish. I and my sister
prepared our swimsuit. We want to swim. We spend the whole day in
the beach. We ha lunch there. It was really fun. In the evening we
went back to our house.
 It was really nice holiday. We were to do our usual activities the
following day.

A turtle is the only reptile with a shell. The shell
is made of a bony or a leathery material. A shell is
like a suit of armour. Most turtles can protect
themselves by pulling their heads, necks, and legs
into the shell. The top part of the shell is called the
carapace. This part covers a turtle’s back. The
bottom part is called the plastron. Most turtle shells
are brown, black, or olive green.
Some turtles have red, orange, yellow, or gray
spots or lines on their shells. Tortoises have big,
heavy shells to protect them from enemies on land.
Sea turtles have light shells so they can swim more
easily.
Turtles that live on land have thick legs for
walking. Turtles that live in water have long webbed
toes for swimming. Sea turtles have flippers to
paddle through the water.
All turtles have tails. Most turtles have short tails.
American snapping turtles have long tails. The Asian
big-headed turtle has a large, strong tail covered
with scales.
Turtles, like other reptiles, breathe air through
lungs. Even sea turtles must come to the surface to
breathe. Some turtles can hold their breath for
months at a time. They do this when they hibernate
at the bottom of a pond or river during winter
Some turtles only eat animals, such as insects,
worms, and small fish. Some turtles only eat plants.
Most turtles eat both animals and plants.
Turtles do not have teeth. They have a beak,
similar to a bird’s, with ridges that they use to cut
food. Turtles that eat animals have knife-sharp
ridges for slicing through their prey. Plant-eating
turtles have ridges with saw like edges that help
them cut through tough plants. Turtles have a tongue
that helps them swallow food.
What is the text talk about?
 The way turtles protect themselves from the enemy
 The only reptile on land
 The description of turtle in general
 The life cycle of turtles
What is the purpose of the text above?
 to describe turtle in general

  • 68. Yogyakarta October 3, 2007 Dear Mom and Dad Today I really had a good time. I spent a whole day in one –my favorite place- the beach. Budi, anto and I went to Parangtritis Beach which lies to the South of Yogyakarta about 27 kilometers away. we left at 6.30 for the bus station and then caught the earliest bus. we arrived at the beach about an hour later i.e. at about 8 o’clock sharp. Unfortunately, we could not sail, swim, or go to the water by boat. This is because the Indian Ocean is too dangerous for such activities. we just walked along the beach and played in the shallow water from time to time. We went home at 2 o’clock p.m. In the last few weekends, we played and did some gardening, read novels, fished in the small river and had gymnastics on Friday morning. So I could say that my stay in Yogya has been enjoyable. I hope you are all well there. I’ll write again next week. Love Howard
