MAT Preparation Tips to Ace MAT 2017 Exam.

2. What is MAT Exam?
Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a national level entrance test, held for admissions
to MBA/PGDM programs.
Nearly 600 B- schools in India accept MAT Score. It is conducted under the guidance of All India
Management Association (AIMA).
MAT Exam is conducted four times a year (February, May, September, and December).
Competency Level - More than 3 lakh candidates appear for it annually.
3. What is MAT Exam Pattern?
MAT exam is held in Online as well as in Offline mode. The exam pattern of MAT has
been same over the years.
The exam will be conducted in English language only.
There will be a total of 200 objective type questions in MAT that must be completed
in 2 hours 30 minutes.
+1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer and ¼ marks will be deducted for
each wrong answer.
40 questions – 5 sections – total 200 MCQs
The sections are- Data Analysis & Sufficiency, Language Comprehension, Intelligence &
Critical Reasoning, Mathematical Skills and Indian & Global Environment.
Candidates have to choose the most appropriate answer from among the 4 choices.
7. 1. Nothing new for now: This is not really the time to start anything new and the candidates must start
concentrating on the topics covered. Revising the covered topics will help the candidates to strengthen these
topics while new topics will consume much time.
2. Know what you know: Just focus on stronger sections. Be confident but not over-confident.
3. Try Smart work: For the late bloomers who think all is lost, maybe it isn’t. Just go for the important topics and
solve as many questions as you can. On analyzing the mock tests, the candidates will realize where they went
wrong.
4. Systematic Approach in the exam: While solving the mock tests and sample papers, the candidates will be
familiar with their strong and weak areas. Now during the test, the candidates would know what to avoid and
what to attempt first in the in the test. With this method, the candidate will be able to give more time on their
weak areas and avoid making mistakes.
5. Accuracy & Attempt: We all know that there is negative marking, for every wrong answer the candidates will
lose 1/4th of the marks. So, you need to focus more on accuracy rather than attempting.
6. Make use of Techniques: Quant section may include lengthy calculations. So, to accentuate your speed and
save time, practice a lot of shortcut techniques and use them while solving questions. Try to memorize
formulas, tables, squares & cubes to escalate your promptness to solve. At the last moment, this is the best

8. Language Comprehension in MAT
LanguageComprehension in MAT tests the English language skills includingGrammar,Vocabulary other
Verbal Ability areas and Reading Comprehension passages.
The difficulty level of topics in LanguageComprehension section is not very high.The exam has moderate to
difficult level questions with overall difficulty level on the moderate side.
To excel, you need to form is a regular reading habit, enhance your vocabulary skills and should have the
ability to analyze and reflect data.
9. How To Prepare Language Comprehension in MAT?
Choose the right topic in the RC section and understand the main idea of the passage. If the candidate
understands the concept of the passage, answering questions related to it becomes easy.
Search for structural words like Similarly, additionally, moreover, though, however, thus etc. so as to get
right meaning of the sentence and hence the passage.
Time Management is very important, try to manage time while reading the passage so that less time is
consumed while answering the questions.
The candidates must regularly read newspapers, books, novels, magazines to improve English
proficiency and vocabulary.
Underline the words that you don’t understand and find their meaning in the dictionary.Also look for their
synonyms and antonyms.
Practice MAT sample papers and reading comprehensions as much as you can.
10. The pattern of vocabulary words asked in MAT exam reveals that these words are moderate ones and
do not belong to a tough literature.
There may be some of the words whose meaning is hidden in the word itself.There may be 2 words
joined in one. If you split them, the meaning will be clear to you.
It is suggested to leave mugging of words now and focus on simple usage for next 2-3 days without
beginning anything new.
It will be easier to decode the 4-5 vocabulary words and arrive at the correct answer.This will help you to
score high without any loss of marks.
12. Indian and Global Environment
Indian and Global Environment section in MAT will be analyzing aspirant’s knowledge about current affairs
and happenings around the globe.
It is often considered an easy to attempt section, however, it requires intensive reading and awareness of
events from around the globe.
In MAT May 2017, questions from important events and developments in the field of sports, tournaments,
advertisements, politics, history, etc. were covered in Indian and Global Environment section.
InternationalAffairs and Business Awareness too had a part in the question paper.Approximately 17-22
minutes were dedicated to attempt this section.
13. How To Prepare Indian and Global
Environment for MAT?
Keep yourself updated with the current happenings in the world.
As GK can be a vast syllabus, candidates should rely on different media like books, magazines,TV news,
social media, etc. to cover as much ground as possible
Awareness is the only key to solve this section.
Do not go into too much detail of one topic, as the questions cover many topics of different fields.
Try and cover the happenings that go back to a year at max. As the syllabus is gigantic, filter out old news
and be in touch with the latest happenings only.

Reasoning Section in MAT?
Read and understand the question thoroughly before answering, to avoid the possibility of negative
marking.
As there will be many statements based questions, so look at the questions very carefully and understand
each statement before attempting it.
This section will have questions of different difficulty levels ranging from difficult-moderate-easy. Start
with the questions you find easy.
