Sports injuries can be caused by compressive, tensile, or shear forces and are categorized as either acute or chronic. Common acute injuries include sprains from overstretched ligaments, strains from muscle tears or pulls, fractures usually in the upper limbs, dislocations in joints, and concussions disrupting normal brain function. Chronic injuries result from overuse and lack of rest, such as stress fractures in long-distance runners, tendinitis from repetitive muscle-tendon movement, osteoarthritis from joint deterioration due to wear and tear, and bursitis causing sac-like cushions around joints to inflame.
