This document summarizes trends from the 2010 ALA Annual Conference regarding library technology. Some of the key trends discussed include:
- Cloud computing was gaining popularity as a platform for prototyping but true cloud deployments were still limited.
- Open source integrated library systems (ILS) continued to grow but still represented a small portion of the overall ILS market.
- On the ILS front, most established vendors saw incremental updates to existing products rather than major new releases. OCLC announced plans to replace local ILS implementations with a new centralized platform based on WorldCat.
- Discovery services also saw continued expansion and integration between vendors' products.

This presentation was provided by Marshall Breeding of Vanderbilt University, during the NISO event, "Library Resource Management Systems: New Challenges, New Opportunities," held October 8 - 9, 2009.
Slides accompanying a presentation about Evergreen and ERM at Evergreen International Conference 2009, by George Duimovich of Natural Resources Canada.
This presentation is from a TechSoup webinar. You can view the archive page (https://cc.readytalk.com/cc/schedule/display.do?udc=peinch14k2ix) for a recording and links to all of the many open source tools that were discussed. We have a lively conversation on our community forum (http://bit.ly/oslib) as Cindy and Kyle answered questions we didn't get to during the webinar.
This webinar will cover specific open source tools (some of which you may not have heard of before!) that work well for libraries and the benefits and challenges associated with their use. Meadville Public Library uses open source software on 90% of their public access computers.
Cindy Murdock Ames, IT Services Director and Kyle Hall, the library's on-staff developer, will share recommendations for libraries considering open source software and how to get started successfully. Cindy has been using open source software for over 10 years, which has allowed the library to save licensing costs and have more control over its computing environment. The library uses open source tools for their websites, e-mail, Internet firewall, wireless router, proxying, filtering, and productivity software. They use thin clients for Internet access and Koha for the circulation and public catalogs.

A talk by Simon Inger at the STM Digital Publishing Seminar, London, 6th December 2016. This talk looks at the state of discovery of journals and books online through a range of discovery options, some issues facing hybrid open access publishing, and why complex and incomplete discovery and authentication is driving readers to simpler, pirate sites, such as SciHub.
Open source library management systems are free alternative to costly commercial
library systems. It helps to automate library functions and give a tremendous savings on library automation expenses. User ’s participation in all stages of software project ensures the development of the features that the library really wants. Lack of awareness and knowledge in open source technology among library professionals restrict wide adoption of open source library management system. This article gives an insight into the use and maintenance of open source
library management systems.
