I have been aviation professional for almost fourteen years, I took a job for a year to pursue a career in
architecture, but the call of aviation never would let me stray too far from my true calling. I have been an
aircraft mechanic for almost twelve full years, I do have an FAA airframe and power plant license, and I
am currently pursuing my FAA private rotorcraft pilots license, hopefully following that through to
commercial helicopter pilot.
I am currently a Mechanic II with DynCorp International, working on UH72’s supporting the U.S. Army
National Guard Border Mission, in South Texas. This is a contract position and I am unsure about the funding
availability in the future so, I feel that as a contractor it is always good to have a backup plan if necessary.
I worked as an A&P mechanic for Air Methods wrapping up a five year tenure as a Helicopter EMS air ambulance
service in Mesa Arizona at the Air Methods Inc Region 3 Maintenance Facility, working primarily on the AS350
helicopter. I started with Air Methods in December of 2010 as the lead base mechanic at Martinsburg West
Virginia . Since starting my position here I have been factory trained by American Eurocopter on the EC130, and
first line maintenance for the Turbomeca Arriel 2B1 engine. I am solely responsible for all maintenance functions
at my base, as well as parts and GSE, and general management operations of the base for AMC. To date the
Martinsburg base has an operational readiness over ninety-five percent, being out of service for scheduled
maintenance an average of four hours for every fifty hours flown.
Immediately after leaving the military, 121st Med Co "Dustoff", I took a job for a government contractor as a
helicopter crew chief, for a VIP personal security detail. The company I was working for was using UH-1ST’s’
similar to the Bell 412 and UH-1 Huey Twos’. It was during this time I was granted a SECRET clearance by the
United States Department of State, it is current as it was granted on 30 August of 2010.
Prior to working as an aviation contractor I was a member of the United States Army National Guard. I worked in
the District of Columbia, 121st Med Co "Dustoff" full time on rotary wing aircraft. Primarily I worked for three and
a half years on UH-1H model Bell Hueys, briefly on UH-60 Blackhawks and OH-58’s. In my last year with the
National Guard My unit was one of the first to field the new UH-72 Lakota. The Lakota is the military version of the
EC145, I am factory trained for first and second line maintenance on this airframe and first and second line
maintenance trained on the Turbomeca Arriel1E power plant. After meeting the Federal Aviation Administration
requirements for aircraft maintenance personnel, The District of Columbia National Guard sent me to Carolina
Aeronautical School for preparation for my A&P testing. I was tested in Greenville South Carolina and granted an
FAA airframe and Powerplant License in March of 2009.
My formal army training was on the Boeing Vertol CH-47D Chinook. I was initially trained at Fort Eustis
Virginia. I was the Distinguished Honors Graduate of my class. I deployed to Iraq as a crew chief and
maintenance technician with the 185 AVN task force in 2004-2005. I was awarded an Army Commendation
medal for excellence in maintenance.
I look for opportunity with you as a gateway to my future to aviation. I am an excellent mechanic and have
the leadership qualities and values instilled in me from my years in the military.
I look forward to hearing from
you Sincerely,
Joseph Marle
