 India is the second largest footwear producer in the world. And
third largest Consumer in the world after China and USA.
 India Produce approximately 9% of global annual production and
produce 9.1 billions pair of shoes annually, in which almost 10%
Exported to UK, Germany,USA,Italy,France and others as per
market analysis.
 Footwear export have grown at 20% rate in last 5 years due to
increasing demand in European countries. footwear exports from
India have risen from Rs. 71.5 billion in FY10 to Rs. 180.0 billion in
FY15.

 As per the India Retail Report, India’s total retail market is
worth Rs 33,592 crores, growing at 18 per cent and is
expected to cross Rs 54,000 crores by 2017.
 Modern retail is estimated at 42 per cent of this total market
and is expected to grow by 21-23 per cent . Retail expansion
grew at an average of 16-18 per cent in terms of number of
outlets and retail space with same outlet growth being around
25 per cent.

Company Overview
• Once the leader of footwear market India, Czech brand Bata, which is still looked at as an
Indian company is gradually losing grounds due to stiff competition from homegrown footwear
companies.
• Bata India’s market share has slipped to almost six percent as it struggles to deal with
declining revenues and profits. For the quarter ended March 2015, Bata India’s net sales
dropped one percent year-on-year to Rs 491 crores, for the second year in a row. The
company’s profit for that quarter was Rs 58.43 crores, an increase of 48.3 percent over a
year ago, but owing to gains from a property development project.
• Its retail network of over 1200 stores gives it a reach / coverage that no other footwear
company can match. The stores are present in good locations and can be found in all the
metros, mini-metros and towns.

 The company enjoys the highest market share in India and this is evident from the fact that the total
retail presence of the company currently is more than thrice that of its closest competitor (Liberty: 381
stores). Bata has over 15% market share in Organized Retail market and around 6.5% share in
Unorganized retail.
 Improvement in process rationalization in form of raw material cost and cost reduction in manpower
cost resulted in 13.8% improvement in gross margin during the period.

 Lakhani India Ltd. (LIL) was orginally incorporated as Lakbros Shoe Co. Pvt.
Ltd. on December 28,1981.
 The name was changed to Lakhani India Ltd. w.e.f. September 12,1994.
 The turnover of the company has increased from Rs. 1306 lac in the year
1989-90 to Rs.2875 lacs in the year 1993-94.
 The Company is also setting up facilities for the manufacture of sports shoes
as per the specifications of 'Reebok', who have also shown interest in
sourcing a total of 37 lac pairs of shoes from Lakhani over a period of next
three years.

 The present installed capacity for the manufacture of Non Leather Shoes
stands at 30,00,000 pairs per annum and is proposed to be increased to
61,65,000 pairs per annum.
 Lakhani Group is amongst the largest footwear manufacturers of India with a
production of 1,75,000 pairs of footwear per day.
 Over a period of time Lakhani has developed a network of 268 distributors
and 12000 dealers appointed by them and spread all over India.

Bata Company Overview • Once the leader of footwear market India, Czech brand Bata, which is still looked at as an Indian company is gradually losing grounds due to stiff competition from homegrown footwear companies. • Bata India’s market share has slipped to almost six percent as it struggles to deal with declining revenues and profits. For the quarter ended March 2015, Bata India’s net sales dropped one percent year-on-year to Rs 491 crores, for the second year in a row.
