This park and recreation center
has something for every age!

Skate Park
When we went to the skate park
we saw teenagers skate boarding
and hanging out. The lumps
that you see are for skate boarders
to do cool tricks. (Dezmond)

2 Baltimore Free Farm
This Cooperative teaches people how
to grow and cook healthy food.

Mill managers built these stone homes
for mill workers.
o 1 Jones Falls
Water powered the mills back then.
This is the river under the highway
near the Clipper Mill. Some of us
didn’t know this water goes into the
harbor.
T1 Meadow Mill
}Woodberry Light Rail Station
Many of us take the Light Rail to get
to school. When we look around
from here, we see old buildings all
around us.
B 1 Coradetti Glass Works
We saw the process of making one
cup. Glass is expensive and takes
time to make. The fire is heated to
2100 degrees.
B 2 The Charmery
They make local flavors. They mixed
salt caramel ice cream with Old Bay
seasoning. We tasted it.
T 2 Clipper Mill
Half of the building
burned down in 1995.
The arch is a memorial to
the firefighter who died.
Part of the mill that burnt
down has been made
into a community pool.
1 Restaurants on The Avenue
Mr. Moeller pointed out many stores
that bought produce from our garden
during the summer: The Corner; The
Veranda; Ma Petite Shoe; and more.
The Corner was our best customer.

This mill used water power, then
coal to run its machinery.

We looked inside this Antiques &
Used Books store and learned that
used things can cost a lot!

36. ACCE Gives Back
to the Community
This is Mr. Moeller, our Environmental Issues teacher and
the main reason we have been able to do all these cool
things.
About ACCE
ACCE is the Academy of College and Career Exploration. It’s a big
school. We have good, smart teachers here. We go on field trips to
colleges and have speakers come to the library to talk about different
careers. BCPS is planning on renovating this building to make it
better, so we will be gone from the neighborhood next year…BUT,
before we go, we want to record all the good projects we have done
as a Maryland Green School and all the ways the school has given
back to the neighborhood.
oWater Quality Testing in the Jones Falls. Believe it or not, we
found a large variety of macro-invertebrates!
5 ACCE recycles over 200 lbs of material a week!
Go ACCE!!!
C Take the Energy Challenge! We helped over 100 community
neighbors pledge to reduce energy usage.
H ACCE’s Green Team learned about and raised trout. The trout
were released in Stony Run to help the ecology of the area’s
waterways.
o Here, by the Jones Falls, we are learning about fishing.
We keep bees on the roof. Here we are keeping the bees
(and us) safe!
2 Our 4000 Sq. Ft. garden has produced hundreds of pounds of
produce for the community each year. It’s the freshest produce
in Hampden!
0We give away and sell our produce. We also have a food bank
at ACCE when we give away food once a week.
We like experimenting with what we can cook from what we grew.
That eggplant parmesan was good!! Thanks, Baltimore Free Farm for
inviting us to your kitchen!
