The students visited the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center for a maple sugar time field trip. They learned about how maple trees are tapped to collect sap, which is then boiled in an evaporator to remove water until it becomes thick maple syrup. The students visited Maple Cloud, a sugar shack, where they saw the evaporator in action and learned how farmer Jessie and Moya use tools like ladles to test the thickness of the syrup as it boils down.
