Overview
Three primary lenses provide the
foundational framework for the design
of the Columbia St. Mary’s Mission
Ambassador Program:
• Model Community of Inspired People
• Associate Formation
• Office of Mission Integration
The Mission Ambassador Program matures
and advances our Model Community culture,
deepens our commitment to ongoing
formation and growth opportunities for all
associates, and provides the infrastructure
to more fully integrate the priorities of
the Office of Mission Integration to serve
Columbia St. Mary’s.
Model Community
of Inspired People
Mission
Columbia St. Mary’s, a healthcare provider founded in response
to identified community needs, is sponsored by Ascension
Health, a Catholic national health system, and Columbia
Health System, a non-sectarian community health system.
Columbia St. Mary’s exists to make a positive difference in
the health status and lives of individuals and our community,
with special concern for those who are vulnerable.
At Columbia St. Mary’s we are committed to providing high quality,
accessible, values-driven programs and services with equal attention
to the physical, spiritual, and emotional dimensions of health.

As key organizational and mission
connectors who serve to extend programs
of the Office of Mission Integration, each
Mission Ambassador is committed to
education and formation as a servant leader
in order to model thoughtful expressions
of our Mission, Core Values, and Model
Community culture.
Associate Formation
Columbia St. Mary’s is committed
to developing a network of Mission
Ambassadors who support fellow associates,
as well as programs and opportunities
that allow associates to reflect on their
experiences, draw connections to their
calling and work, and more fully realize and
express their gifts and fullest self.
“Formation is a transformative process
rooted in theology and spirituality
which connects us more deeply with
God, creation, self and others.”
Contribute to the health ministry by
leveraging their skills, knowledge and
dedication to those we serve and each other.
Competencies and Commitments
Mission Ambassadors:
• Model and promote Columbia St. Mary’s
mission and values among our associates
• Actively participate in quarterly Mission
Ambassador Network meetings
and annual Retreat Day
•Commit meaningful and dedicated service
annually to the Mission Ambassador role
Mission Ambassador Responsibilities
• Each Mission Ambassador participates fully
in the annual Retreat Day, Commissioning,
and Quarterly Network Meetings.
• Mission Ambassadors champion key areas of impact,
influence and invitation. Examples include:
~ Communicate opportunities that celebrate and
advance Columbia St. Mary’s mission and heritage
~ Provide a dynamic and positive presence
that reflects our Core Values
~ Inform and engage leaders and
associates regarding programs
~ Foster positive work culture and
relationships among associates
~ Facilitate and lead, formally and informally,
mission-focused discussions and presentations
~ Support opportunities to cultivate and
integrate Workplace Spirituality
Respect, support and advance the Mission and Core Values
of Columbia St. Mary’s and work together for the good
of the health ministry and those who receive our care.
Formation, Learning and Development
• Annual Retreat Day for personal enrichment,
education in Columbia St. Mary’s mission and
heritage, and development of interpersonal skills
• Quarterly meetings of the Mission Ambassador Network
• Annual Commissioning of Mission Ambassadors
during Living Our Mission Week (May)
More readily grow personally and professionally in
a community of persons whose health, well-being
and development are recognized and supported.
Mission Ambassador Network and Community
The Mission Ambassador Program provides a vibrant and
comprehensive structure and dedicated leadership to
support an integrated network of Mission Ambassadors
who extend our mission across Columbia St. Mary’s.
