MantisBT is a web based bug tracking system that was first made available to the public in November 2000. Over time it has matured and gained a lot of popularity, and now it has become one of the most popular open source bug/issue tracking systems. MantisBT is developed in PHP, with support to multiple database backends including MySQL, MS SQL, PostgreSQL and DB2.
MantisBT, as a PHP script, can run on any operating system that is supported by PHP and has support for one of the DBMSes that are supported. MantisBT is known to run fine on Windows, Linux, OS/2, Mac OS X, System i and a variety of Unix operating systems.

MantisBT, as a PHP script, can run on any operating system that is supported by PHP and has support for one of the DBMSes that are supported. MantisBT is known to run fine on Windows, Linux, OS/2, Mac OS X, System i and a variety of Unix operating systems.
MantisBT is available in several Linux distributions including: Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Gentoo, Frugalware and others. Hence, if you are running Linux, start by checking if your distribution has a package for MantisBT. If not, or if the package is not up-to-date with the latest MantisBT version, then you may want to download it directly from here.
For Windows, Mac OS X and other operating systems, use the link provided above to download MantisBT. The download is compressed in tar.gz or zip format. Both formats can be unpacked using tools like 7-Zip (in case of Windows).
Note that at any point in time there are typically two "latest" MantisBT releases that are available for download. The latest production release (stable), and the latest development release which can be an alpha or a release candidate. It is not recommended to use development releases in production specially if it is still in the alpha stage unless the administrator is familiar with PHP and is able to troubleshoot and fix any issues that may arise.
There are plenty of resources to help answer support queries. Following are the main ones:
Forums - The forums are one of the most popular destinations for getting MantisBT support. Start off by searching the forums for your questions, if not found, then go ahead and submit a question.
Mailing lists - Available mailing lists are "mantisbt-announce" for announcements, "mantisbt-dev" for development issues, mantisbt-lang for localization and "mantisbt-help" for general help/support questions. There are public archives for such mailing lists. Note that only members of the mailing lists can post to them, hence, subscribe to the lists before you attempt to email them.
IRC - The IRC channel is mainly used by developers to engage in in-person discussion. The recommended tool for IRC is XChat (for Linux), XChat 2 (for Windows). However, you can also use Web Chat to connect to IRC via your web browser. This is also useful when your work firewall blocks the IRC port (although there are other workarounds involving tunneling to fix this issue). Many people prefer to use IRC to ask questions to the developers and other users who are in the IRC channel. The IRC channel logs are archived and made available on the web. (TODO: add irc logs link)
Wiki - The MantisBT Wiki has information related to "How To (recipes)", FAQ, feature requirements, etc.
Search - A good way for locating an answer for your question or finding more information about a topic is to search across all MantisBT website and the Internet via Google or Bing.
It is important to note that support questions should not be sent directly to MantisBT developers or through the MantisBT contact us pages. Use of "Contact Us" page or emailing the developer directly is available if you are after a paid support or consulting service.
Server Software Requirements
All of the required software is free for commercial and non-commercial use (open source). Please refer to the table below for minimum and recommended versions.
Operating System
MantisBT runs on Windows, MacOS, OS/2, Linux, Solaris, the BSDs, and just about anything that supports the required server software.
Web Server
MantisBT is mainly tested with Microsoft IIS and Apache. However, it is expected to work with any recent web server software.
File Extensions: MantisBT uses only .php files. If your webserver is configured for other extensions (e.g. .PHP3, .PHTML) then you will have to request the administrator to add support for .PHP files. This should be a trivial modification. Further details can be found in the PHP documentation
PHP
The web server must support PHP. It can be installed as CGI or any other integration technology.

Home Page of MantisBT looks like this.
The First task of the administrator is to create the project.
Project creation process involve multiple attribute of a project to set and defined.
According to the requirement of the product or organization the project can be divide in sub project as well. ( like in CMS multiple phase of the project can be drafted as sub projects).
Multiple attributes are also there like categories and versions like which version the project starts with or which version the project is currently moving ahead. Multiple versions can be liked to a project.
Next and final part of project creation is adding user with level of access they have to the project.
We can also copy users from other existing projects.
In next slide we will get to know how to create users in MantisBT.
Manage users tab lists down all the users created in MantisBT irrespective of the project.
Pre defined filters are also there in MantisBT to list down the users.
User creation task also performed under manage users section of MantisBT.
Only Administrator have the rights to create users.
In the next slide you will see how the user creation page looks like in MantisBT.
Creating new user required few basic details that are shown in slide.
Which includes access level also which list administrator, manager, developer, reviewer etc….
Once you click in create user button user gets created to database then click on proceed button to go ahead.
This sections enables you to edit properties of existing user, deleting any user and adding user to any existing projects or subprojects.
Manage Tags sections lists down all the tags in database created so far with few of its attributes.
Also gives the prompt to create new tag.
Tags can be used to tag any defect with special requirements phrase like PSAT, HATS etc etc.
Dun no about
Managing global profiles section allows user to add n numbers of profiles to database which further can be used during defects logging to fasten the process.
Not only that we can create multiple profiles which can be used for various projects.
Manage plugins tab lists down the installed plugins with few details along with the available plugins to install.
Manage Configurations sections contains configurable settings to be changed by administrator only.
Few of them are captured in the consecutive slides.
Like in this slide its clearly understood that administrator can give rights to the type of roles just by click of mouse.
Like this slide shows the workflow configuration in MantisBT.
Default workflow for any defect can also be customized.
This slide shows the configuration related to email notification for the project ModCMS.
As of now we are done with the administration part of MantisBT like
Setting up of project
Creation of users and adding them to projects
Adding custom fields to be used in projects
Configurations etc etc. now we will start with logging of defects in MantisBT.
This is the page which is used for defect logging which contains multiple fields to enter details to add any defects in database.
The profile which we created earlier is now listed here which if not defined in manage custom profiles section then user need to expand or fill in section and fill those details manully.
This section shows how the defect is available to viewer once it is added to database.
Not the complete section it is next section is shown in coming slides where if privileges are there with user can update details of any defects.
This is the dashboard for any user which can be customized it lists down or shows the status and progress on defects under multiple projects.
This is how the summary sections looks like which shows the data in
Viewing issues section list down the defects.
From here the report can be generated in doc file as well as in html format.
