What is Managed Service Provider?
A managed service provider (MSP) delivers network,
application, system and e-management services across a
network to multiple enterprises, using a “pay as you go”
pricing model. A “pure play” MSP focuses on management
services as its core offering. In addition, the MSP market
includes offerings from other providers — including
application service providers (ASPs), Web hosting companies
and network service providers (NSPs) — that supplement their
traditional offerings with management services.
History and Evolution
The evolution of MSP started around the 1990s with the
emergence of application service providers (ASPs) who
helped pave the way for remote support for IT infrastructure.
Around 2005, Karl W. Palachuk, Amy Luby (Founder of
Managed Service Provider Services Network acquired by High
Street Technology Ventures), and Erick Simpson (Managed
Services Provider University) were the first advocates and the
pioneers of the managed services business model.
The Evolving Role of the Managed
Service Provider
Nearly every enterprise has at least one relationship with a
managed service provider today and it’s very likely that
relationship has evolved over the years. Get ready, it’s changing
again and very much to the advantage of the enterprise.
Managed services has its origins in the beginning of the tech
market when companies would turn to a reseller to not only
integrate but manage the finished solution.
Benefits of Working With A
Managed Services Provider
1) Infrastructure on demand
2) Developers can focus on their code
3) Proactive support
4) Assisted ‘best practice’ design
5) Offload non-differentiating function
6) Guaranteed Service Level Agreement (SLA)
7) Offload non-differentiating functions.
How to work with your Managed
Service Provider
Set the relationship up correctly from the beginning
 Agree on what’s urgent (and stick to it even when everything
feels urgent)
Value honesty and transparency
Thank You…..
