- 2. What is the narrative of the feature film being advertised? What is the genre? • The narrative of this movie is basically two younger girls who are sheltered in this alone house in the woods. When they are discovered and found they are shown as quite feral and have no idea how to act in society. They act animalistic as they have had no correct upbringing by humans. Someone who knew their family then takes them in and tries to look after them properly only to find they have been followed by a spirit of a mother who is attached to children as she lost her own in her previous life. The narrative then goes on into how the spirit ‘mama’ follows them to their new house and tries to create a barrier between the people who are looking after the daughters are she has become attached to the girls. By creating the barrier she is them haunting them. This narrative clearly depicts a horror movie.
- 3. How much of the narrative is revealed? How is this achieved? • During this trailer quite a lot of the narrative is revealed, but not the entire storyline. They show key events which happen and lead up to the hauntings. This however manages to reveal massive amounts of the storyline yet still leave the audience with questions to why certain things happened. This is important because then the audience is left buzzing and wanting to watch the entire movie and make sense of what actually was happening. We will use the technique of showing key events but not entire story.
- 4. What is the narrative order of the shots? How does it differ from the order in the movie? • The narrative order of the shots within the trailer don’t differ to the order within the movie as it all happens according to what takes place in the movie. This is something we will look at using within our trailer because audiences then understand the story which then makes them want to watch the entire movie.
- 5. How many shots are used? • 115-120
- 6. What pace of editing is used? Does the pace increase/decrease at any time, if so why? And when? • The pace begins quite slowly when the voice over narrates the movie and slow scenes introduce the girls with their animalistic characteristics. Then, when the haunting begins the pace gets faster and shots get smaller and flick through rapidly. Then the pace goes slowly again and more narrating is done, followed again by fats pace and haunting scenes!
- 7. Are there any specific transitions used that you wouldn’t expect in the movie itself? Wipes/fades to white/black etc. what effect do they have? Why do you think this has been used? • All transitions are there which I expect from this movie, fades to black is mostly used which gives a scary haunting effect as it makes the on goings seem dark and unusual which they are and then put the audience in the same position the characters are within the movie and becomes more horrific.
- 8. What does the voice over/text say? How does this link in with the visuals? How does this set up the narrative of the film? • The voice over verbally narrates the movie and explains what’s on going. This is helpful because it sets the scene for the audience of what exactly the situation is. The text also helps set up the horrific genre as it says things which allow the audience to understand the issues which are going on.

How does the soundtrack help create the genre and/or narrative? • The soundtrack is quite slow but scary to start off with which goes quieter then gets louder with a bang to start off with, this then changes when more of the hauntings are shown and the soundtrack gets louder and more faster and the audience are scared as they are expecting things to happen
- 10. What specific camera shots are used – when/where/why? • Close ups and point of view shots are mainly used and this is throughout the whole movie when all the haunting happens. This is because it makes the audience realise how the person in the movie is feeling.
