Mise-En-Scene
• The location of the film in the opening sequence is of
a small town in the country side. This portrays that the
town is isolated, making the audience feel more
involved as their isn't much going on meaning they
wont get distracted easily.
• At the beginning of the opening sequence, the
audience is shown a sign saying ‘ a safe and caring
environment’ highlighting to the audience that Bailey
downs (Location) is a nice place, however this is
misleading as when the women's dog gets torn apart
she screams for help yet no one is there to care for
her or help her.
• The credits of the film are white with a black
background shows that the film is serious and also
creates a creepy atmosphere. However, when the
titles appears there is a red and black background
with ‘Ginger Snaps’ faded in the background. This
symbolizes blood which foreshadows future events as
blood gets spilled.

Camerawork
• There is an establishing shot at the start of the
opening sequence to show the location of the film.
This introduces the audience in where the film is set
and makes them feel more involved as they know the
location of the film.
• There is a close up of the dead dog, to show the
audience that it didn't’t die naturally and that
something terrible has happened which is why the
dogs insides are on the floor and all over the dog
kennel. This makes the audience wonder what killed
the dog and why it killed the dog the way it did.
• Additionally, there is a zoom on the women's face
when she finds the dog ripped apart around the corner
of her house. This allows the audience to understand
how she feels about the situation making them have
sympathy for her as her pet has got slaughtered.

Editing
• There is a use of slow motion when the girl is walking
out the garage, this tells the audience that she is
important and that the audience should keep an eye
on that character as she is important to the storyline. It
also creates tension as the audience want to know
why she is walking in slow motion and how she is
important in the film.
• Also, the use of continuity editing makes the film
seem more realistic and makes the film flow more
elegantly. This makes the audience more involved as
they can continue watching and understand the story
line.
• An eyeline match is used when the lady is looking at
her son. This makes the audience believe that
something is going to happen or the boy is important
in some way.

Sound
• When the lady finds the dog dead, she screams and
then it goes onto the credits the scream then echo's
showing the audience how much she cares about her
dog and makes the audience feel uncomfortable when
reading the credits.
• Also, the high pitch screams makes the audience feel
uncomfortable and makes the audience have
sympathy for the women as she is scared and upset. It
also shocks the audience as it makes them think that
something terrible has happened and makes them
wonder why she is screaming, makes the audience
scared and left wondering.
• The use of ambient sound is really effective as it
makes the film seem more naturalistic, which
contradicts the first event that happens in the film.
Additionally, it allows the audience to be more involved
and understand the type of characters in the film.
