Making difficult decisions is part of life. The document discusses two films where characters face hard decisions - Billy Elliot about a boy pursuing ballet despite societal expectations, and Moulin Rouge where Satine must decide between love and protecting her friends. Both characters have to weigh personal desires against responsibilities to others when choosing a path. The document argues that not all difficult decisions have obvious answers, and characters' circumstances must be considered to understand their perspectives.

She never fully becomes free of him until she physically leaves the house. That way, Edna has no ties whatsoever to that man. Furthermore, Edna indulges in more humanistic things such as art and music. She listens to Mademoiselle Reisz s playing of the piano and feels the music resonate throughout her body and soul, and uses it as a form of escapism from the world. Based on these instances, Edna acts almost like a very young child, completely disregarding consequences and thinking only about what they want to do experience most at that moment. However, to the reader this does n

Informative Essay On Black History
Black history is an important topic in America, but not to everyone. Black history is a part of American history, but yet it is not treated like American history. America has so much diversity that we should be teaching the students about everyone s history. It will teach the students how much America has changed and how it is still the same. Yes, black history should be taught through out the school year. Isolating black history to just a month is actually rasict. It s showing that America doesn t think black history is important, because it shows America s flaws. If it wasn t for the antiquity of African Americans, America wouldn t be the way it is now. The regular American History shows that white people are strong and it makes it seem

Pillars Of Njhs
Many may ask what leadership, service, and citizenship truly mean. I have had abundant experiences with each of these unique characteristics. Personally I believe the National junior honor society is looking for strong individuals with very imminent, powerful and strong traits. Someday I would love to be a teacher, and being in NJHS would really give me a true representation of what being a leader and teacher is like. I fit this intricate job description for many reasons, and I hope you enjoy listening to my experiences.
One of the first NJHS pillars is leadership. I am a leader at school, home and at dance. Excelling at several school subjects and helping others who are unsure or don t quite comprehend ideas or concepts helps me grow as a leader. At...show more content...People may think of service as being in a war or being part of our government. While these are very high positions of service there are also many small ways service can make an impact. Some of the service activities I have been included in are: Singing at a senior center, participating in Girl Scouts, adopting and caring for a humane society dog, donating clothes or toys to goodwill, and biking/walking places to save gas. Service is very important to me because it really helps me visualize the difference you can make by doing several small acts of kindness.
The 3rd and final trait of NJHS is citizenship. Citizenship is really becoming part of a community and finding out where you can use your talents to help others. Even so citizenship is more than fulfilling community service or helping others without recognition. Citizenship is helping out whoever you can whenever you can. That can be as simpl

History of Persuasion Essay
First to start off everything in life has a history of some sort and that s the same for persuasive writing which is a form that s used so many times by so many people. I have used this style of writing on many occasions myself when I wanted to get my point across and show others that my way of thinking was a better idea or thought process than someone else. It s very important to understand what being persuasive really is. Persuasion in itself including writing. It s a form of expression getting someone or reasoning with them your way of thinking on an issue or argument.
The Sophists were teachers and professors who came to Greece cites. Here s a short introduction Fifth century B.C.E. Everyone has to have a way of writing that can be able to relate to others there points of view in a nice an professional way that s what I have seen this man do he used his gift of writing and was able to reach others in his ways of writing. I think this would change his communication and behavior because after a certain point in his writing career he was able to feel very comfortable in his work and was able to maybe say something s that maybe some would not agree with or like but he took that risk and that s important if you are a writer take risks. It s about being true to yourself. I m not sure what modern theorist that it was that I wanted to pick but I would assume that there ways of writing would be very different from someone of ancient times like Antiphon s writing was. W

Herbert Spencer Social Darwinism
Herbert Spencer introduced Social Darwinism as a supposition that human groups and ethnicities are contingent to the same laws of natural selection as Charles Darwin had distinguished in wildlife and plants in nature. This idea was endorsed in the 19th and 20th centuries claiming the feeble were diminished and their cultures demarcated while the powerful grew in control and had cultural impact over the weak. Social Darwinists believed in survival of the fittest , a phrase coined by Herbert Spencer. In turn, this created the idea of racial supremacy, the belief that a race is superior to others and should rule over them, and eugenics, the selection of favored inheritable traits to improve future generations. Darwinism is a notion that specific

Child Interview Essay
The interview I conducted took place in the courtyard of my complex in Smallville, with the interviewee and myself. For the purpose of his paper and to protect the adolescent privacy lets call her Regina. Regina is a fourteen year old adolescent female of Africa American descent. She is above average in height and carries a very shy and nonchalance deposition. She is a very attractive young lady and does above average work in her school setting. She appears to be a normal every day child with a lifetime of experiences awaiting her.
Regina was the daughter of my life long best friend and he approved of the interview, however he was not present during the interview. I went on to ask her about school and how she felt about it and the relationships that she has gathered while being there. She was open and forward about school. She didn t care for it too much. She believed that it was more of a fashion show that didn t charge admission than an institution of learning. She felt that this was how and why most of the children at school got recognized and established their so call status at school. About her friends and the selection process, she was reserved and settle with the position of dealing with friend that have being around through out her elementary experience. Meaning that she does not set out to make new friends, she would prefer to relish and maintain the ones that she presently has.
I then addressed the violence in the schools, Regina admitted she does not feel safe at

Examples Of Discrimination In Frankenstein
Discrimination in Frankenstein
Frankenstein is a book that explores society and human behavior when someone different is introduced. It says that humans are not always willing to introduce someone new to their society. Have you ever discriminated against someone or been discriminated against because you were different? Frankenstein is a book that explores difference in a society, to explore this theme a monster is created to give the idea of rejection. This monster is rejected everywhere he goes because of his difference. He is rejected by his creator, and then he is rejected by the villagers, by the farmers who the monster had so long admired and in the end by the reader himself. Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I rushed out of the room ....show more content...Victor had worked day and night trying to create an individual that would be and would look like a human. Once Victor had finished creating this monster he realized how not human alike the monster was and decided to reject him. This was a sign by the author to show the rejection of the monster by the creator and how no one even the creator accepts the monster because of the way he is and the way he looks. This happens in our modern world today as many parents do not accept their child because of his ideas and future plans.
The whole village was roused; some fled, some attacked me2
Wherever he goes, the monster cannot find a person who accepts his way of being. This is shown in the different villages the monster visits. we see that the monster is attacked and harassed by the villagers. The rejection of the monster by the villagers is a symbol of rejection as i

The Federalists
The ability to unify a nation in a liberal democracy and work towards obtaining a given objective is incredibly difficult when everyone s opinion is supposed to be valued. However it s not just valuing everyone s opinion that can cause concern, but the fact that people are allowed to act on their opinions, no matter how radical or crazy they are to the majority of the population. This allows for dissenting opinions against the general will to rise up and hold seats within the legislature; therefore, legitimizing their claims by thrusting them into the public spotlight. This can be both good and bad and it was explored in depth by James Madison in The Federalist Papers. In his work he states the obvious concerns factions can have on a society...show more content...Madison s usage of the word most seems to the reader that he is assuming more than 50%, however, those popular social movements consist of people of all economic standing on both sides. Therefore, how can the unequal distribution of property be the cause of factions. Without factions (according to Madison) society would have to be involved in a communist state to guarantee the equal distribution of property so as not to cause factions to develop. However, society can t enter into a state of an authoritarian regime because it needs to maintain liberty, a theme Madison believes is unreplaceable. Instead of trying to remove factions by mandating a communist egalitarian world view (which some people understand when they read Madison s work, not what Madison himself said), society should embrace factions as an example of political and intellectual freedom working beautifully. It demonstrates that dissenting views
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasnât one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

This happens in our modern world today as many parents do not accept their child because of his ideas and future plans.

He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions
People make decisions every single day, even if they know it or not. Whether it is an important decision as in buying the right car, or a little decision
as in deciding what to eat for lunch. No matter what the decision maybe, one has to make choices everyday. Although it may be the wrongchoice later
on, no one has the ability to look into the future. But one must move on even though it may not be the right choice. Robert Frost explains this well
in "The Road Not Taken", in which he describes a situation where a person is at a fork in the road, and has to make a decision on which path to take.
In the first part of the poem Frost compares and contrasts the two roads: And looked down one as far...show more content...
That is why people make choices in the first place, to get the better side of the decision. Frost also expresses the idea of hesitating before taking
action in the third and fourth line saying "And sorry I could not travel both / And looked down one as far as I could." These two lines are
especially important because it can be associated with all types of decisions. The third line points out how one cannot choose all the choices, which
the majority of the time is true; and the fourth line points out again the importance of evaluating the choices thoroughly before deciding. In the
second part of the poem Frost makes the decision on which path to take. This is said in the thirteenth line "Oh, I kept the first for another day!"
Perhaps being an adventures person, Frost decides on choosing the less traveled path, which was the second road described in the poem as "grassy
and wanted wear." Yet still hesitant to take the path because in lines fourteen and fifteen Frost says "Yet knowing how way leads on to way, / I
doubted if I should ever come back." Frost explains that one will never know what will happen later on, and perhaps will never end up in that same
situation again, therefore should make the best choice at that moment. Again, as the first point, think the choices through before making the decision,
and this is what

When we came up with a decision to fix a problem the stimulation had a visual graph to use that examined different metrics of how our choices

help us identify what was missed or overlooked so the problem can get fixed. This also helps ensure the same mistakes are minimized, if not identified
so the same issues do not reoccur and something can be learned for the future. The techniques of the stimulation measured the success of change and it

It may take many people to realize that the decisions they make today could possibly affect the outcome tomorrow and even later in life. When we
are children, our parents and guardians are responsible for properly guiding us to make the right choices, they are the people who are supposed to
teach us right from wrong and in most cases they are the people who reveals the many harsh realities of the world to us. Through childhood we
may not worry about how the bills will get paid, or what job we will have when we are adults because for many people the answer to those

Mourning also suggests that, "There are often doubts in life, but you will have to stand up and attack what is attacking you. Meet force with
force. You have to learn as much as you can, come up with a plan, and be positive" (Mourning, pg. 14). It is important for everyone to be persistent
in life and when faced with a difficult task think positive and attack what is stopping you from what your trying to achieve. When faced with an
illness, Mourning's outlook was to fight the disease and succeed. Like many adolescents who are faced with peer pressure of drugs Mourning had

was raised by a foster mother and kept in touch with his parents he said, "I was once naive and trusted everyone, and is almost cost me everything"
(Mourning, pg. 53). For most of the book, I agree with these suggestions but there is one aspect of Mourning's decisions that I highly disagreed
with; In Chapter 4, Mourning discusses how he was freshly 18 years old and that he had "learned how to not be skeptical of everything and everyone"
(Mourning, pg. 59). Being skeptical of people is not a bad thing in many people's opinions. In life we are faced

The willingness on the part of both parties to accept that there is a problem c.
If the parties do not consent to arriving at a solution no head way will be made in resolving the issue.
Develop potential alternatives
The next step requires that the woman considers the potential alternatives available to her in resolving the problem. Options available may be varied.
They may include:
1. Courage to bring to the notice of the husband her feelings
2. Discuss the problem with a friend of the husband
3. Bring the problem to the notice of the senior minister of the gospel whom the husband respects so much.
9. 4. Make the parents of the husband aware of the situation
5. Seek the help of a professional counselor
Analyze the alternatives
A good analysis of the alternatives or option available has a corresponding result in arriving at a solution. The aim is to find answers to the problem.
The problem at hand for example involves two different individual. To select the best way to resolve the issue, it is important the wife acknowledges
the nature of the husband. How well will he respond it a third party is brought in to help resolve the problem? For instance, if the man has develop an
attitude of ignoring in woman in the house, approaching him to talk about the issue will not be the best solution. However if he is the type that show

10. Making Medical Decisions
In making medical decisions for another, one is taking someone's life and wellbeing in their hands. We must take into consideration what is morally
right and wrong, as well as what is ethical, while making medical decisions. In doing this, we respect the rights each person has. Within the field of
medical ethics, or bioethics, there are many principles that explain what we need to consider when making a decision that could impact someone's
wellbeing and quality of life. The first and arguably the most important is the utilitarian principle of greatest happiness. This principle states that an
action is ethically right if it creates the greatest amount of good for the greatest number of people. In this, the goal, if you will, is to preserve someone's

By definition, autonomy is a person's rational capacity for selfâgovernance or selfâdetermination. The requirement to honor one's autonomy is
explained in the autonomy principle, which states; autonomous persons should be permitted to exercise their capacity for selfâdetermination. In medical
ethics, this principle is considered to be fundamental and can only be violated with explicit justification. However, patient autonomy and physician
beneficence clash when someone refuses treatment. Then, we must decide if it is permissible for a physician to treat a patient against their will. The
overriding of a person's actions or decisionâmaking for his or her own good is paternalism. This principle directly connects to utilitarianism, which
demands that we must maximize the good for everyone involved; this is a requirement to justify a paternalistic action. Paternalism, in many cases, may
be key in medical decisionâmaking. For example, is a case where an incapacitated patient has no appointed medical decision maker, the doctor has to
make whichever decision that will create the most amount of good for the patient. With a fully coherent patient, it is necessary that we respect their
autonomy because they have the right to decide what happens to their body. As one can see, these ethical principles guide us toward making the best

11. Decision Framing
Making good decisions is vital to living a successful and productive life. The ability to decide and choose wisely and rightly depends on the
situation. Though we try to be as logical as possible in taking a decision, sometimes we end up making the wrong choices. So, it is important to
understand how people decide things.. The sad truth is that people, even at the highest level, simply do not like to make good choices as every
decision involves a certain amount of risk. Decision framing is the first step in the decision making process, and it builds the plan for making a good
choice. The decision frame does not always ensure the right outcome. However, without it, there is no structure when making a decision. Framing is all
about how information is presented and if it has an affect on the outcome. Framing is all about how we interpret the information. People interpret things

I knew that starting my next semester I had to choose something I wanted to study. This was one of the hardest decisions I had to make. I was
worried that if I choose something that I would eventually lose interest and regret it. After some thinking I did some research on Health Sciences.
My doctor once talked to me about becoming a physician assistant. This is what influenced my decision and I ended up changing from liberal arts
to Health sciences. Making decisions is something we do everyday. Some decisions are minor and others can be life changing. The more we grow up
we realize that we have to make more difficult decisions. Just realize that everyone goes through this and things don't always go to plan. I had to make
a tough decision in my life. Sometimes you have to take risks and go with you're gut feeling. You learn from the decisions you make and eventually get
better with this

12. Essay about Making Good Choices.
Making Good Choices
By: Keria Owens
Making choices can affect any and everything in your life whether it's dealing with your family or just everyday situations. Everyone in life is
faced with good and bad choices that can either have a good outcome on your life or it can make a turn for the worst. Yes, everyone wants to make
good choices in life. But does that always happen? Nine times out of ten know. Recently, I made a bad choice that affected my life in numerous
ways for instance when I got caught shoplifting my parents looked down on me as if I was this thief. I'm very embarrassed of my actions but there's
nothing I can do to erase it I can only make this a learning experience and make better choices next time around. As teenagers...show more content...
Often times it can be difficult if not impossible to make what you think at that moment will be the right choice. One of the biggest factors that will
hold people back is that to too often than not we are not completely clear on what type of result or outcome we want from a situation. Think about it,
if you don't really know what kind of result you want it is going to be pretty hard to know what choice is going to be the right one. So what do you
do? You get a clear understanding, before you make any choice. Think about its effects in the longterm, and short term. Knowing exactly what you
want is very powerful. We have all heard the golden rule; do onto others as you would have them do onto you. This is probably one of the most
important ideas to keep in mind when making good choices. When we are young a lot of us develop this me, me, me, attitude. We want all the
toys, and we don't want to share. Now this mentality may get us a lot of toys, but it defiantly doesn't help you make friends. In this day and age a
large part of personal success is based on working with others to achieve our goals. If we can help others get what they want, it will be much easier
and they will be much more willing to help us get what we want. So when making any choice it is always ideal to think about how can I

13. Essay on Decision Making
Decisionâmaking models, or the path that one would choose in his or her decisionâmaking, is heavily relied on the information one has received. By
having all the correct information available, decisionâmaking becomes an easier task. The model in which one would base his or her decisionâmaking
upon can be analyzed into six different factors: the problem at hand, the goals that want to be reached, alternatives, pros and cons, decision(s), and
reason(s) behind the decision(s). According to Richard W. Scholl (1999), there are three components of every decision. The standards in which
decision makers assess alternatives, or the criteria. The specific courses of action or options being considered are the alternatives. The cause and effect

Approximating the possibility of each outcome prepares the decision maker to assess and evaluate alternatives. The next step in the decisionâmaking
process is choosing the alternative that the decision maker considers most effective, that is, the one who allows the opportunity to solve the problem
and accomplish all necessary objectives. This choice can be hard even when results have been evaluated based on comparable criteria. Once a decision
has been made to choose an alternative solution, that decision must be implemented. The decision maker will have considered all imaginable problems
that may be connected with the implementation of the solution. However, the decisionâmaking process does not end when the decision is
implemented. The decision maker must evaluate the decision to the extent to which the solution achieved the necessary objectives. In professional
decisions that I have made in my workplace, I tend to lean more toward the pros and cons, or the cause and effect principles. Recently, I was asked
to research a new networking and accounting system for the company, and to choose the best one, as we would be implementing the network into
our company. As I researched, I took note of the pros and cons as they came up. The new network was certainly going to streamline our everyday
work process as well as alleviate any double entry, which would also reduce errors
