Deep ML Architecture at Wildcard: At Wildcard we think about technologies for a future native mobile web experience through cards. Cards are a new UI paradigm for content on mobile for which we schematize unstructured web content. Part of the challenge is to develop an understanding of online content through machine learning algorithms. The extracted information is used to create cards that are surfaced in the Wildcard iOS app and in other card ecosystems. I will describe the challenge and the way we structure the problem of content extraction with a deep architecture of classification and optimization algorithms that combines traditionally factorized problems of content extraction which allows the various stages to inform each other. The talk will include an overview of the used data, features and our training strategy with a partly human-powered labeling system. This ML system, called sic, is used in production and I will show our approach to using only fast or a mix of fast and slow features depending on the use case in the app.

There is a part of the engineering & construction lifecycle where huge amounts of inefficiency exists. Project documents are numerous and with the changes in the industry towards 3D BIM, stakeholders involved in the review process need more sophisticated tools and applications to work with this complex information. Documents that define buildings, infrastructure and assets are not only growing in complexity but also in physical size. In order to deal with the processing of the variety and complexity of data, organizations need to rethink what tools and applications will be needed to enable the efficient and integrated processes demanded by projects. Oracle AutoVue brings a unique set of capabilities that supports the variety of application formats, helping companies involved in the engineering construction lifecycle to deliver operational efficiencies that are integrated to the Primavera solutions. We explore the use of deep integration to Unifier BP’s, working in conjunction with drawings and Building Information Models enabling all stakeholders to view and digitally collaborate on project documents in the appropriate business context.

Considerations For an API Strategy - Ronnie MItra API Architect Layer 7 Londo...CA API Management
API Management is becoming increasingly important as more and more organisations need to expose their data and application functionality to internal and external developers. Exposing APIs empowers these organisations to engage customers in innovative new ways, create new revenue opportunities and transform their businesses into platforms. But how do you ensure your APIs are exposed securely? How do you create, maintain and update different versions of your APIs? How do you throttle usage, meter requests and monitor API health?
The document discusses structuring BIMs to enable information exchange using IFC and COBie. It reviews the objectives of capturing and standardizing building information for facilities management. Current limitations are identified in BIM authoring tools and IFC/COBie translation workflows. Organizations like GSA are adopting IFC and COBie to reduce waste and improve access to standardized facility information over the lifetime of a project.
This document discusses structuring BIMs to enable information exchange using IFC and COBie. It defines COBie as a spreadsheet format for capturing building information for facilities management based on IFC. The document reviews a project that developed baseline BIMs with architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC information to test exporting IFC and converting it to COBie. It found current software has limitations, including non-standard naming and data duplication. Properly structured BIMs and standardized properties are needed to achieve usable output in IFC and COBie formats.
BIM for Construction provides an overview of building information modeling (BIM) for the construction industry. It discusses how BIM enables more collaborative, proactive, and predictable processes compared to traditional analog methods. BIM allows all project stakeholders to explore a project digitally before construction through visualization, analysis, documentation, fabrication, and building simulation. Implementing BIM can reduce costs from fewer errors and changes, improve safety and quality, and provide facilities management benefits through its use over the entire building lifecycle. The presentation covers BIM technologies, applications in design, construction, and operation, as well as benefits for key disciplines like architecture, structure, and MEP.
The document discusses key considerations for designing APIs for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. It notes that IoT environments have characteristics like low power, limited bandwidth, many asynchronous messages between autonomous connected systems. Effective API design for IoT should take these characteristics into account and determine factors like where a device will be used, whether it needs cloud connectivity, and whether computations are better done locally or in the cloud. The document emphasizes that API design for IoT needs to focus on simplicity, ease of use, and allowing access to valuable resources and data to get the "job done" for users and developers.
The document discusses best practices for digital media planning, outlining key considerations for selecting media channels, targeting audiences, measuring outcomes, and optimizing campaigns. It provides examples of using different digital advertising platforms like display, search, social media, and various targeting and measurement tools. The presentation emphasizes testing strategies, managing expectations, and continually improving campaigns based on post-buy analysis.

Storytelling For The Web: Integrate Storytelling in your Design ProcessChiara Aliotta
In this slides I explain how I have used storytelling techniques to elevate websites and brands and create memorable user experiences. You can discover practical tips as I showcase the elements of good storytelling and its applied to some examples of diverse brands/projects..
I'm going to talk to you about a diagramming technique I developed while working on a website redesign for an international architecture firm earlier this year.
While I was working on designing the information architecture of the site, running user journey workshops, creating sitemaps and wireframes and the like, 2 of our client's major competitors put their newly designed websites live.
This sent some of the high level stakeholders into a bit of a frenzy. They wanted to see how our redesign compared to thecompetitors before the visual design had actually begun.
I considered talking them through a comparison of our sitemap with the competitor's sitemap but this didn't communicate how carefully we'd woven the user journeys into the information architecture.
The clickable wireframes which they'd already approved weren't having the effect I needed either. They needed to see something visually impressive and understand how the user journeys were integral to the IA.
I looked into what other visualization techniques I could use to communicate the value of our user centred information architecture design. I was intrigued by how node diagrams can show how points are joined together in a visually compelling way.
hen I went back to the sitemap and considered I could show the user paths - that the contextual and local navigation links made possible - by reorganizing it more like a node map.
In order to keep a reference of the navigation design and hierarchy, I applied some colour coding, and I drew arrows between all the pages that were linked by any kind of global or secondary navigation.
This is the resulting nodemap, which was very effective in demonstrating how the contextual and supplementary navigation put the most important content at the heart of the user journey.
This is what those contextual and supplementary navigation links look like on the webpage, there is related content from other sections, category links and local navigation all making lateral exploration possible.
The double headed arrows indicate that links are reciprocal, so for example if you land on an office you can jump right into a related project, news story or person’s profile page.
This nodemap shows how the IA allows users - who've arrived via google on a deep page of the site - to explore the breadth of the website content without having to learn the global navigation to find their way around.
It was also very clear when I compared the nodemap of our client’s site to one I drew for their competitor’s, just how much more effective our IA was for allowing users to easily browse the website content.
The competitor’s website nodemap clearly shows the different content types are in siloes, a complete lack of contextual or local navigation making it impossible to move laterally between sections and or go back without using the back button or returning to the main nav.
If you are looking to create a fluid IA (and why wouldn’t you?!) then this is definitely a great tool. Showing it to our client impressed them enough for them to stop worrying about what their competitors websites looked like and let us move forward with the visual design.
A couple round up points about using this technique: it doesn't mean you don't need to do user testing! Just because you've put links in place to connect pages doesn't mean users will necessarily find them....
However, it CAN help to identify weak points in your navigation design so might want to use it to review your IA before putting it in front of users. Or you could use it for competitor audits.
You might also find this a useful tool for pitching to a potential new client, or selling the value of IA internally in your organization. I certainly found it helped us get buy in to the process…
… and we ended up with a very happy, and better informed client, who is extremely satisfied with their website and knows it doesn't just look better than their clients’ sites, but provides a better user experience too.
