instruction of a father, And give
attention to know

The Bible spends a great deal of time
addressing the need for children to
heed the instructions of their fathers!
● Pr 1:8-9 My son, hear the instruction of
your father, And do not forsake the law of
your mother; For they will be a graceful
ornament on your head, And chains about
your neck.
● Pr. 10:1 A wise son makes a glad father,
But a foolish son is the grief of his mother.

Fathers Want What Is Best For
Their Children!
● Fathers want them to make right choices
and have a right attitude!
● It is my hope and prayer that we will all
leave here wanting to make dad glad, by living
a life dad can be proud of!
● Now, some of us may no longer have our
earthly father, but we always have our
Heavenly Father with us!
− Heb. 13:5-6 “I will never leave you!”

I. A Father Instructs!
● How many of you have ever bought
something before and then tried to put it
together without the instructions?
● A father gives his child the
instructions they need in life!
● I do understand that not all fathers
give the right instructions, but yet we
must learn to listen to our father’s
instructions when they are right!

The Bible Commands This!
● Pr 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should
go: and when he is old, he will not depart from
it.
● Eph 6:1-4 Children, obey your parents in the
Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and
mother," which is the first commandment with
promise: "that it may be well with you and you
may live long on the earth." And you, fathers,
do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring
them up in the training and admonition of the
Lord.

Children need proper
instruction early in life!
● Eccl 12:1 Remember now your
Creator in the days of your youth,
Before the difficult days come, And
the years draw near when you say, "I
have no pleasure in them":
● It is a blessing to have a father that
gives proper instructions!

II. A Father Insures!
●How many of you in this room have insurance?
In the state of Illinois, one must have car
insurance to have a driver’s license.
●If we are going to buy a house or a car, the first
thing they want to know is do you have
insurance!
●Now when I say a father insures, he is not just
wanting to make sure you are covered, but that
you are doing what is best! He is covering all
the bases!

●A loving father helps his child
understand “why” they need to live right!
●Children need to learn to trust their
parents and understand that they are
here to help them in life!
●A father must always be honest with
his child, so they can fully trust him.
●TRUST: T= True R= Reliance U=
Understanding S=Surety T=Together

III. A Father Insist!
● Not only does a loving father instruct and
insure, he also insist!
● Fathers insist that their children obey them
and learn to do what is right.
− Too many families today let the children
run the home rather than the parents!
− Children are children and they do not have
the proper learning to run the home and they
need their parents!

A Loving Father Will Enforce What is
Right
● Pr 3:11-12 My son, despise not the chastening
of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:
For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even
as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
● Pr 13:24 He who spares his rod hates his son,
But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.
● Pr 19:18 Chasten thy son while there is hope,
and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

● Pr 22:15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a
child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far
from him.
● Pr 23:13-14 Withhold not correction from the
child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall
not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and
shalt deliver his soul from hell.
● Pr 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but
a child left to himself bringeth his mother to
shame.
● Pr 29:17 Correct thy son and he shall give thee
rest; yea he shall give delight unto thy soul.
