6. 2 Hear me, you heavens! Listen, earth!
For the LORD has spoken:
“I reared children and brought them up,
but they have rebelled against me.
3 The ox knows its master,
the donkey its owner’s manger,
but Israel does not know,
my people do not understand.”
8. 11 Jesus continued: “There was a man
who had two sons.
12 The younger one said to his father,
‘Father, give me my share of the
estate.’ So he divided his
property between them.
9. 13 “Not long after that, the younger
son got together all he had, set
off for a distant country and
there squandered his wealth in
wild living.
13. 13 “Not long after that, the younger son
got together all he had, set off for a
distant country and there squandered
his wealth in wild living.14 After he had
spent everything, there was a severe
famine in that whole country, and he
began to be in need.
14. 15 So he went and hired himself out
to a citizen of that country, who
sent him to his fields to feed
pigs. 16 He longed to fill his stomach
with the pods that the pigs were
eating, but no one gave him anything.
17. 9 For this reason, since the day we
heard about you, we have not
stopped praying for you. We
continually ask God to fill you with
the knowledge of his will through
all the wisdom and understanding
that the Spirit gives,
18. 10 so that you may live a life
worthy of the Lord and please
him in every way: bearing fruit in
every good work, growing in the
knowledge of God,
20. 10 My son, if sinful men entice you,
do not give in to them.
11 If they say, “Come along with us;
let’s lie in wait for innocent
blood,
let’s ambush some harmless soul;
21. 12 let’s swallow them alive, like the
grave, and whole, like those who go
down to the pit;
13 we will get all sorts of valuable
things
and fill our houses with plunder;
22. 14 cast lots with us;
we will all share the loot”—
15 my son, do not go along with
them, do not set foot on their
paths;
29. 20 So he got up and went to his
father. “But while he was still a
long way off, his father saw him and
was filled with compassion for him;
he ran to his son, threw his arms
around him and kissed him.
30. 18 Yet the LORD longs to be gracious
to you; therefore he will rise up to
show you compassion.
For the LORD is a God of justice.
Blessed are all who wait for him!
31. QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION AND DISCUSSION:
1. Did you have a season of rebellion? How
did God bring you back?
2. Above all else, what is the one big
thing you will take away from this study?
