Later he studied in Arya School Lahore, completed his matric in Mission High School Gujranwala and attended Lahore College.

point he tested the civil services exam in the Salt division. In 1902, he was appointed as the Assistant Superintendent at Sanbhar Lake.
He was clear only about one thing that he would serve the commoners for the rest of his life. As a Salt officer three thoughts bothered him too much: “that the salt which for miles has come out of the ground, only needy ones make it for their use. My duty was to catch them and imprison them. It came into my mind that the nature had given a free gift to the poor and being instrumental for their arrest just for earning wages became a repulsive idea.” “One day I thought that it was better to educate the poor than to brag about my status as a Salt officer.”
He decided to quit the job because it was not his way to lord over poor and helpless people.
Based on his academic achievements, He became vice-principal of Khalsa College in 1904 and later its Principal, at the unprecedented young age of 27 years and the first Sikh to do so, since this benchmark was only met by British Teachers prior to this.

Maha Kumbh Mela 2013 - Mass Gathering of Hindu Pilgrims
1. Kumbh Mela 2013 - Allahabad
Kumbh Mela, greatly referred as the ‘Festival of the Urn’ pours out a philosophy of
immortality. In Sanskrit word, Kumbha means ‘Pitcher’. The sign under which the festival is
celebrated is ‘Aquarius’ according to Indian astrology. Mela literally means a gathering or a
meet. So Kumbh Mela is designated to be a sacred pilgrimage tour attended by millions of
people from every nook and corner.
This is a mammoth where mass pilgrimages of Hindu community come to attend the
event. The greatest attractions of the place are the Naga babas, Sadhus and saints who
come here from the mystic caves and the highest peak of the Himalayas.
2. Kumbh Mela’s Four Locations
The fair is held in turns in four different sacred places. Let us take you through the places.
Prayag (Allahabad): The place where the three rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati meets,
also known as Sangam. It lies in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh along the
Allahabad district.
Haridwar: Where the river Ganga enters the plains from the mighty Himalayas. It lies in the
Haridwar District of Uttarakhand.
Ujjain: On the banks of Shipra river. Being a part of Madhya Pradesh, it lies in the
administrative center of Ujjain district and Ujjain division.
Nashik: On the banks of river Godavari. It lies in the city of Maharashtra, India.

3. Legend Behind the Kumbh Mela
A mythological legend revolves around the celebration of the
Kumbh Mela. It is believed the Gods after losing their strength,
decided to churn the ocean with the collaboration of the demons to
obtain the Amrit, the nectar of immortality. They made a deal that
the nectar would be shared between both the parties. When the
Amrit was obtained, the gods refused to share it with demons. A
fight broke out which continued for 12 human years. During the
battle, Garuda, a celestial bird, flew away with the Kumbh that
contained the nectar. There is a belief that the places where the
drops of nectar fell are the sacred sites where the Kumbh Mela are
held now.
A major event of the festival is bathing in the banks of each river.
People hold a faith that taking a bath in the holy rivers, washes
away all the sins they had committed in their egoistic life. After
bathing, the devotees wear fresh new clothes and proceed to offer
prayers by the river bank.
“Kumbh Mela is the way to purify your soul and change the way of
life.”
