Everyone likes their houses to be brightly illuminated, but one has to pay a price to keep them like that. It means that while you want your house to be all bright and illuminated, you ought to shell out extra money to pay for the electricity bill. But you illuminate your houses or other establishments with the help of LED lights, you can certainly save on electricity bills.
Lighting design is quickly evolving. And you can now access countless options to give your home an instant transformation. From aesthetically pleasing designs to colorful retro designs, nothing seems hard anymore. It’s up to you to choose what suits your personal style. But it’s very important to know the things you should be looking for.
In this white paper we focus on the electric lighting of houses and their immediate surroundings; however, this is not a course in lighting technology. There are already enough informative books and specific training courses on that subject. Instead we provide insight into various aspects of interior and exterior lighting and lighting controls that are important for the design of a lighting system. The ultimate aim is to design a lighting system which ensures that users or occupants feel comfortable during all activities and experience adequate lighting comfort. We gladly leave the detailed calculations to the experts at lighting dealers and wholesalers.
This white paper is the first of a series of thematic white papers dealing with various aspects of electrical installations in houses, flats and residential units. They are intended for architects, designers, specification writers, decision makers, installers and students.
Designing anew with OLED lighting - Presented by: Peter Ngai , Acuity BrandsCindy Foster-Warthen

This technology is not only highly efficient, but its thinness and noble character of light give it great flexibility in lighting design. This session will celebrate the design process and results achieved in real-world applications of OLED lighting. Discover the challenges, rewards, and breakthroughs in applying one of the most exciting technologies of today to invigorate the art and design of lighting. Examine the use of OLED technology through application examples, delve into the many considerations in the design and selection of luminaires, and explore how realized projects can impact human interactions with and perceived importance of light.
Explaining the color rendering index (cri) and leds saving light bulbsSaving Light Bulbs
CRI, or the Color Rending Index, refers to the quantitative measure of a light source’s ability to render known colors of materials as well as objects. The process entails measuring the light emanating from a test source and monitoring the appearance of reflected light as compared to 8 known color samples. The CRI is usually rated on a scale ranging from 0 to 100; the minimum index represents a light whose colors aren’t distinct while the latter corresponds to daylight or an ‘ideal’ white light.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

4. The MAGIK range of products are built to deliver
performance that will delight you always. With
meticulous design processes, state-of-the-art
manufacturing technologies and extensive quality
monitoring regimes in our world-class lab.
Magik products use LEDs from only
selected LED Bins to deliver
high-efficiency products as LED
components vary from each other in
terms of rendition of colour, forward
voltage and flux even within the same
production batch.
Installed in a big dark room, our MIRROR GONEO
PHOTO METER tests and records data on the luminous
intensity distribution curve, effective angle and beam
angle, total Luminous flux, light efficiency, utilization
factor, current, voltage, power and power factor
amongst other parameters. This data helps us provide
you with the optimum lighting solutions.
THE MAGIC
BEHIND THE MAGIK
The Birth of MAGIK
All of our products are conceived at our design lab in Kolkata, where each and every parameter is meticulously
designed and selected. Our R&D engineers select LEDs that deliver high lumens and colour accuracies from
specific lots or “bins.” They are then assembled inside specially designed housings which help in proper heat
dissipation. The electronic driver is designed to withstand the harsh Indian electrical voltage variations. Finally,
each product is tested on our in-house Goneophotometer to ensure the right light output making it truly worthy
of your beautiful home.
02
5. Century LED is one of the very few companies to enter the lighting
sector with its own state-of-the-art manufacturing unit.
Creating
MAGIK
At our manufacturing unit, an automated SMT section prepares all of the LED units and electronic drivers.
Then, semi-automated assembly lines in our plant produce high quality bulbs, battens, tubes, street lights,
panels and down-lights. To provide a sense of consistency across all of our products, we incorporate strict
manufacturing disciplines into all our production processes; thus leading to fewer mistakes and variations.
Moreover, this helps us in delivering high quality products with optimum input costs. Our products are not
just best-in-class, they are part of the national initiative to foster innovation and skill development and
MAKE IN INDIA.
An automated printer first applies glue on pre-designated locations of a PCB, which then passes through an
automated line onto a Pick and Place Machine which places the LED packets along with other components
on the board. The PCB then passes through a Re-Flow Oven, where it is baked to form the desired PCB for
a given product.
Our Quality Management System ensures rigorous performance tests using various
NABL-worthy testing equipment and gives us the confidence to provide a 2 year
replacement guarantee across our portfolio. Each one of our products goes through
an ageing test where they are subjected to extreme voltage, high temperature,
frequent switching on and off before they are packed for the market.
We also conduct extensive checks
including colour analysis sphere test,
Spectro radiometer integrating sphere
test, IP chamber tests and other
electrical and mechanical tests such as
the Vibration test, Salt test and Drop test.
Additionally, we also perform
Accelerated Life Ageing Lines for
ensuring high light output throughout
the life of the product.

THINGS TO CONSIDER
WHILE BUYING LED
IP
IP or Ingress protection classifies and rates the degree of protection of a product against dust, water and
hazardous objects such as electrical conductors, moving parts etc. Some of the important IP ratings are
listed below:
CCT
The ambience of your home also depends a lot on the
CCT, or in simple words, the colour of light emitted
from your LED lighting fixture. Warm lights have
a yellow hue to themselves, which make them ideal
for ambient lighting in living rooms and bedrooms.
Cool lights on the contrary are used for task-specific
lighting purposes, such as in reading areas
or offices.
BEAM ANGLE
It is the angle at which light is emitted from an LED lighting
fixture. A sharp beam angle light is used to focus on special
areas or specific objects like paintings, artefacts etc.
Whereas a wide beam angle light is used to illuminate
general areas such as hallways, living rooms etc. WIDE ANGLE NARROW ANGLE
CRI
CRI defines the quality of light emitted from an LED fixture. Higher CRI units bring out the real colours
in objects within the beam range and make them starkly visible; just as they would usually look under
natural light.
